The air around us hummed with an unnatural static, a reminder of the digital disturbance we were tracking. Our path through the virtual realm became more treacherous with each step. The once stable environment flickered and distorted, trees shifting in and out of focus, the ground beneath us rippling like water. Every sound seemed amplified, each rustle of leaves or distant echo setting our nerves on edge.
"We’re close," Eve said, her voice barely more than a whisper. Her eyes scanned the surroundings, every muscle in her body tense.
