FILE 10: THE HAUNTED HOUSE PART 2

It took only a few minutes to arrive at Chos home. As I removed my gloves and helmet, I observed the house. It needed fixing, but could be a nice family home.

The garden was huge with overgrowth. The driveway had holes, but the house looked newly painted. The house was massive, so I guess anyone would love to live here.

But even without my SENSE I could feel an odd atmosphere. I'd love to know what is going on in this place.

I was greeted by Jin Ae wearing an apron (she looks so cute and wifey). I was left alone with my devices as she's busy baking. I dumped my bag on their chair and began my investigation.

Making sure she wasn't in the room, I activated my SENSE. With my eyes gold, I studied my surroundings. So far, there's nothing worth speaking about, but I was curious about the dark air that hung around the room.

It didn't necessarily mean the presence was evil, but it didn't matter anyway, since the client wanted it exorcised.

I followed the trail when I heard a loud gasp. Oh no, Mrs. Cho was in danger! I dashed into the kitchen to find Jin Ae standing in the corner, clutching a bowl. Her face looked panicked, and she stared up at the ceiling.

"Mrs. Cho? What's wrong? Are you all right? What happened?" I stood before her protectively. I heard scraping above me, and my head shot up.

Written in bloody letters on the roof was, TWINKLE, TWINKLE, LITTLE STAR, I CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE YOU AWAY VERY FAR. Dropping the cookie dough, Jin Ae collapsed.

Through my SENSE I only heard a snicker, but saw nothing. I comforted the poor woman as she sobbed, afraid, as it was my duty.

"Mrs. Cho. I think it's best that you and your husband leave until I grant permission. It's too dangerous for you to be here," I suggested urgently as I disabled my ability.

She wiped her eyes and replied, "I'm fine. Thank you, Mr. McNeill. I'm only shocked. I'll call my husband and tell him. Sorry for the mess." She staggered up and waved me off.

Then she went to look for her iPhone.

I couldn't help but be suspicious of her behaviour. What secrets were Jun and his wife keeping? She returned with her purse and keys in her hand.

"Jun said he had booked a room in a hotel for a few nights. We agreed to entrust the house to you temporarily until this is resolved," she spoke as she thrust a large key into my hand.

"Wait a moment-" I protested. I only thought of having them leave for a few hours, not several days. She rummaged through her purse.

She shoved a paper into my hands. "Here is the hotel number in case you can't reach either of us if there's an emergency"

She thanked me again, bowed, and practically ran out of the house. I stood in the kitchen, baffled. The house was eerily quiet as the situation sank in. I then grumpily smashed the key and paper onto the counter and initiated my SENSE.

There's laughter and mockery everywhere. I had been abandoned, and I was now alone, yadda, yadda, yadda. I felt anger swell inside. Never in my life had I been taunted, except by Mars. I won't let them get away with this!

I also activated my SHADOW and disappeared. I planned to find them and see if I could sneak up on them unaware. To my annoyance, it didn't work.

The dark smoke appeared above my head as I tiptoed into the TV room. At first, I thought it was a coincidence, but it followed me all the way up the stairs, giggling.

SHADOW didn't work, so it meant it was a high level spirit. So I discarded SHADOW. [So stupid. What a stupid human. Let's eat him. Bring them back!]

I shivered. Please don't eat me, I'm too handsome to end up dead. I paused in front of the en suite. The ghost became agitated. Does this room have some significance for this guy?

The ghost gurgled, and I felt stinging as I opened the room. Ouch! Come on, dude, I'm innocent here. It didn't look like a room a young couple would sleep in. It was filled with boxes, several plastic bags, and sellotape.

A cupboard stood empty at the back of the room, and a small bed stood in the centre. I was confused about this dirty room since the rest of the house was quite clean.

As the stinging became really painful, I hurriedly slammed the door. Something to add to my day. Terrific. My body felt like it had been stung by bees.

I rubbed my arms as I huddled in the hallway. The smoke hovered over me as I slumped, jabbing insults.

"Shut up. It's your fault I'm like this. Now get out of my way, I'm busy," I raved at the ghost. It went silent in surprise. I guess it thought I was a pushover.

Well, that makes it stupid, not me. I mustered my strength and went to the next room. What am I searching for, you ask? The real ghost. What hovered above me was only a manifestation of its consciousness.

Unlike the fox fires, who could only float, this high level ghost was able to send out its mind while remaining somewhere else.

Worse, it was a cluster of several consciousnesses. I was finally left in peace as I peered into each room. The spectre only followed me down the hall, but I still didn't find anything.

Sensing it was gloating, I trudged back downstairs.

It had taken me hours to scour through the house, and it was getting late, so I decided to look in the yard tomorrow.

I ordered some Chinese take out for dinner and waited while the dark smoke swirled above my head. [What's Chow Mein? Huh? Huh? What will you do with it? Is it the name of a girl? Is he lonely?] it snickered. 'Freaking crazy ghost,' I thought irritably.

My order arrived, and the ghost tried to snatch it from a startled delivery guy. "It's windy today, isn't it? Here's your change," I said, evading the questioning guy.

I suppose he won't ever return. I guess that's a good thing. Only the desperate make deliveries. I did a bit of tug-of-war with the ghost before finally starting dinner. I never had to fight for my supper before.

I finished up and watched a South Korean soap opera on TV, and to my shock, the ghost enjoyed the show with me. It was awkward. It disappeared when I went to bed, though.

To my dismay, I had a nightmare that night. Yes, that dream. HUNT must have been activated due to the ghost.

I'd love some support!

Thank you!
