Spencer Mansion (2)

"Make way!" Enrico shouted as he shot the door using his Steyr AUG configured into full-automatic. He did not stop until he sensed that there were enough holes to make it easier to destroy. Then, he ran to gain momentum and shoved as hard as he could. At once, the door was broken, leaving some splinters all over its corner. "Everyone, get inside!"

Kenneth and Richard entered through the entrance and searched the new area for any possible escape route. Kevin and Edward followed after and helped their fellow teammates.

As the marksman of the group, Forest knelt and aimed at the rushing Cerberus, who was approaching Mendell. As soon as the target was locked, he shot it decisively, blasting a hole in its head.

Mendell pushed the remaining Cerberus away with the help of his log, which garnered enough time for Forest to kill it as well, who then continued hitting the rest of the zombies one by one, making sure that his every bullet counted.

Mendel placed his log on the floor and took out the Samurai Edge and started shooting as well.

While this was happening, Enrico stepped back and shouted, "How's the area?!"

"It's a close room with no way out, Captain! We're trapped in here!" Kenneth explained as he moved closer to Enrico. "It's just an ordinary room - a bed, a table, and a shelf filled with books. We rummaged the drawers and cabinets but they're all useless. No secret trapdoors nor doors that might get us outside. The only thing that can help us are the red herbs inside. We already collected it."

"So the only way out is to kill these rushing zombies, huh..." Enrico paused for a few seconds as he thought of a new plan, and said, "Attention, everyone. We're gonna make a way through these fuckers! So, be alert because we have a lot of zombies to kill, do you hear me?!"

"Yes, Captain!" Everyone shouted in unison.

"Remember the drill? We're going to use Plan C!" Enrico exclaimed as he reloaded his gun and stepped forward. At once, he shot them using his full-automatic Steyr AUG, aiming those that were nearer. He kept on shooting until he was out of bullet and reloaded as he stepped aside.

While Enrico was reloading, Kenneth and Kevin stepped forward and started shooting the zombies using their Samurai Edge. As soon as they heard Enrico saying 'Done', they moved back.

Enrico once again moved to the front and started showering them with bullets. This time, he successfully killed the remaining zombies. He stopped shooting and raised his left hand. He was about to command Kenneth to scout ahead when he saw Mendell's weird expression. Curious, he asked, "Why?"

Mendell was standing beside them when they began shooting, so his heightened auditory nerves gave him a lot of trouble. But thanks to his superior body, his dizziness disappeared and he became normal once again. "Sorry, I was just feeling tired from these killing. Anyway, we need to hurry up. More zombies are coming our way."

"How did - " Enrico stopped talking when he saw a new horde of zombies struggling their way to pass the dead bodies on the floor. At once, he shouted, "Plan C, then Plan F!" After that, he shot the newcomers again with his Steyr AUG. When he was out of bullets, he reloaded and move aside.

Kenneth and Kevin did the same thing they did earlier. This went on for several rotations until they both said, "I'm out!"

This time, Richard and Edward replaced them and started firing their guns.

Slowly, they moved forward as soon as they killed the wave of zombies. Once they see them, they executed plan C again. Rinse and repeat.

Mendell understood that they wanted to save bullets and maximized their killing efficiency. Even though it was not a perfect plan, he still praised Enrico for his good leadership skills. Now he understood why he was the first choice to become the captain of the entire STARS. If Umbrella did not intervene, he could have secured the position, thus minimizing Albert Wesker's influence.

He was already out of ammo. Besides, he did not want to disrupt their teamwork so he opted to stay behind them. With nothing to do, he picked up his log once again and followed them. But there was one thing that puzzled him. In the Residence Evil plot, only a few zombies were present in this particular area and he was wondering where these zombies were coming from. Something was up and he had to find out, and if his suspicion was right, then he might have to alter his plan.

"I'm out!" Edward and Richard shouted almost in unison. This time, only Richard stepped back while Edward changed his weapon into his favorite rifle.

Enrico felt his head ached when he realized that their ammunitions were getting smaller, and the rifle was not a good choice in this kind of place. "Where's the ammunition case?!"

"I left it in the main hall. I should have carried it with me, sorry," Mendell apologized.

"No, don't be. At least it wasn't left inside the helicopter," Enrico said as he continued shooting. When he realized that he was nearly out of ammunition, he shouted, "This time, we'll rush toward the main hall and get that ammo case. Kevin, how many grenades are left with you?"

"Two. I've used one earlier while we're outside the mansion," Kevin explained.

Enrico nodded. "We don't want no surprises as soon as we reach the corner of this hallway. Kenneth, as soon as we reach two meters away from the corner, rush forward and scout the situation. Then return to your position as fast as you can. Copy?"

"Yes, Captain," Kenneth agreed.

When they were about to move, Mendell suddenly intruded, "I have a better suggestion, Enrico."

"What is it?"

"I can do the scouting to minimize any possible ambushes. After all, this is my specialty. I run through the forest from the Arklay Scenic Drive to this Mansion safely, thanks to my good fighting ability and excellent scouting skill," Mendel reasoned out.

Just like previously, Enrico did not answer right away, contemplating the situation and the things he heard from Mendell. After a few seconds, he answered, "Okay, then. Take care. We'll back you up."

Mendell smiled and walked ahead as he carried his log like a spear. No matter what, he had to find out why this was happening. He could now differentiate the smell among the three different enemies he had encountered. And he could only detect one variant that was coming their way - the zombies.

Without wasting time, he quickened his pace until he reached the corner, which led to another narrow hallway. True enough, he saw another wave of zombies coming from the spot where Kenneth died in the original plot, and they already reached the door leading to the dining room.

"Zombies! They're already at the dining area's door!" Mendell shouted as he grabbed his weapon like a spear. He wanted to swing the log like a baseball bat but the narrow hallway was preventing him to do so. He could only push them away by stabbing actions, like logs destroying a barricaded door.

Enrico nodded and gave his men some hand signals. At once, they rushed forward - maintaining their usual position - and reached where Mendell was. They saw the horde of zombies blocking their exit to freedom, and this made them all the more nervous.

"Okay. Time to decimate these fuckers. Make every bullet counts!" Enrico shouted.

Mendell stepped aside and stepped a meter away from them to avoid suffering too much from the loud sounds.

Enrico started doing his thing, and zombies were toppled down one after another. Then he heard a dreading sound which he did not want to happen. "I'm out of ammo! Is there anyone else that's not empty?"

Almost everyone answered 'Negative' except for Forest and Edward, who were carrying two sniper rifles.

Enrico frowned when he found out that they were in a predicament. He was about to issue some commands when he noticed Mendell approaching him. "Do you have any idea, Mendell?"

Mendell nodded. "I'm gonna push them. When you see the path is clear, then rush to the door. Don't worry about me, I can handle myself."

"But - " Enrico was about to refute him when he saw the young man rushing forward with his log. Without a choice, he commanded, "You heard what Mendell said. As soon as the path is clear, we rush to the door!"

Everyone nodded.

Mendell focused his attention to the zombies before him. He sprinted forward and hit the nearest zombies, pushing some of them away. With a sudden thrust, he struck the other zombies in the head. Luckily, the ceiling was high enough and he was able to raise his log vertically, then slammed it on their heads, splattering some of their heads. Then he stepped back and rushed again, flinging another group of zombies.

Kevin and Edward already witnessed how strong Mendell was but it was the first time for Enrico and the rest to truly see his unusual strength.

"Brah..." Kenneth blurted out.

Forest and Richard looked at each other, and laughed nervously.

Kevin shook his head and just waited for Enrico's signal while Edward snickered.

"This kid..." Enrico muttered to himself, amazed at the scene he was seeing right now. He already knew that Mendell was strong because he alone carried the ammunition case, which was usually lifted by two people. But seeing him fight was another thing. When he noticed that the door was not blocked anymore, he raised his hand and pointed forward.

They immediately sprinted as hard as they could. Kenneth was the first one to reach the door, and he quickly turned the knob and rushed inside. Then the rest of them followed except for Enrico.

"Mendell, we're now in the dining room! Come!" Enrico urged him and went inside the room as well.

Mendell saw that a few remaining zombies were left. He could not run properly because the floor was littered with corpses. He moved his way back to the door slowly, hitting those that were near him from time to time. Then he heard some footsteps behind him. Through the scent, he knew it was Enrico.

"Let me deal with them!" Enrico shouted as he made way for Mendell to safely retreat. Then he began shooting once again until he killed the last zombie standing. He was about to check the situation when he heard Mendell calling him. He looked behind and asked, "What is it?"

Mendell took a deep breath and exhaled deeply, before answering, "It's over."
