chapter thirteen

I took off my glasses and laid back. I was calculating my monthly income expenditure. My host made a huge raise to my rent. I would survive, but it wasn’t very nice of him. My parents were sending money to me and I had little savings, but lately, I’ve been spending so much. And if I kept spending that way, I would starve. I needed to move. I’d find a couple of houses, but they were too expensive for me. I called my brother. “Kid you have got to stop calling him,” said his girlfriend. “Hello to you, too, Eve,” I said.

“Oh, it’s you. Hi, Jackson.”

“Hi. Ian’s been calling a lot, I guess?”

“Yeah. I thought you were him because I didn’t look at the caller ID.”

“Anyways, is my brother there?”

“He just came. Here you go honey,” she said and passed the phone to my brother. “What’s up?"

“Hey, uh, do you mind if I ask you a favor?”

“Sure, anything.”

“Can I borrow some money? I promise I’ll pay you back.”

“Yes, you can. Is everything okay?”
