Chapter 9

Max you don't really expect me to believe that do you. I know what i heard and unfortunately my father isn't here to backup your story. It's not a story, Cassidy its the truth. Keep telling yourself that Max but without proof i am having a hard time believing you. Then prepare yourself Cassidy because I am not going anywhere until i do.

What about your father's stipulations to get your inheritance you and I have to get married for you to get it? Is that what this whole thing is about and why you are still here Max, for the money. No, I don't want or need the money cassidy it's yours. We can even sign a prenup if that will make you feel better. Max i need time to think about it all and to let it sink in. Right now I want to go home and get something to eat and soak in a nice hot bath then bed.

At the very moment they were pulling into her driveway. Once Cassidy realized that they were back at her place she took her seat belt off and got out. Aunt Sylvia was standing at the door waiting on her. I'm sorry sweetie Max told me things didn't go well at the lawyers today! No aunt sylvia they didn't. Sylvia wrapped her arms around cassidy and held her tight. Do you want to talk about it? Not now i just want to get something to eat, take a nice long bath and go to bed. Well then you and max go sit by the fireplace and i will bring your dinner in. Sylvia headed toward the kitchen and Cassidy and max headed for the living room.

Cassidy and max both sat on the couch in silence for a minute or two before either one of them said a word. Have you opened the letter from your dad yet? No not yet max i am just not ready to do that because god knows what it says and i might not ever want to know. Max before you say another word let me just say i don't want to talk about what happened today at the lawyers office. I just want to sit here and eat my dinner and find out what you have been up to the last four years. I am sure you have changed a little because I know I have.

At that moment Sylvia appeared with two bowls of chili topped with cheese and onions. Max went to the door to help her bring it in. Aunt Sylvia are you going to eat with us? No dear i am going to go to my room and snuggle down with a good book for the remainder of the night but you two enjoy and i will see you in the morning. Sylvia turned to go but before she walked out she winked at max and then left. I wonder what that was about. Why was Aunt Sylvia winking at you max! I have no idea max said maybe she had something in her eye. Let's sit and eat we can talk after. They took their bowls to the kitchen and went back and sat in front of the fireplace.

So max what have you been up to the last four years. Well after you broke off our engagement i went and stayed with my brother in london until i was able to get up on my feet. I got my own place and busted my butt at work working fifteen to sixteen hours a day six days a week. I wrote to you all the time but my letters kept getting returned. I did that for three years then i realized that no one knew where you were so i gave up and tried to start over again and that is when i meet simone. She was everything that i thought i wanted except that she wasn't you and that is what i really wanted.
