Chapter 7: Betrayal

My eyes began to water, I cried and screamed "No!"

Hearing me scream they both turned, surprised to see me but Drew quickly masked it with a blank look, Hannah on the other hand was completely confused.

They both stood up to cover up while I sat on the floor crying, my cries got louder and louder with each passing second.

Drew growled louder making me cower in fear, "What are you doing here? I thought I told you to stay away from me", I just cried more.

"Why should I? Why did you mark her?", I asked slowly as my breathing was unsteady.

"Who the hell are you to ask me that?", he growled.

"Your. Mate", I said each word slowly with emphasis.

Hannah who had been standing there watching the scene unfold stiffened at the word Mate, her face paled badly as if she had seen a ghost.

"Mate?", she whispered as she staggered a bit, "Adira, you're his mate?"

I nodded.

"But why are you crying? Why didn't you tell me about all of this?", she asks looking even more confused.

I laughed a chilling, humorless laugh. "Why am I crying? Really? My mate just marked another she-wolf which turned out to be you of all people and you're asking me why?" Sarcasm dripped from my tone.

Drew growled and she snarled, "Don't talk to me like that, besides you're the one who rejected him and now that he has marked me, you're sad?", she spoke in a voice that i didn't know belonged to her.

"Hannah, do you really think that I'd reject my mate? You know how much I wanted my mate to save me from this hell and I was afraid of rejection. My fear of rejection was right because here we are, my mate rejected me and marked you… you were even going to finish the mating process".

I paused for a moment before I continued, "I found him yesterday when he came to cut the cake but by the time I could go there, he was gone. So I trailed his scent to the woods where I met him".

I looked at Drew who was glaring at me, "He was happy at first but when he saw who it was, he rejected me saying he had a girlfriend who could care better for him and his pack".

Hannah came to me and took my hands in hers, "Why didn't you tell me all this?"

"I was going to but no one was there when I got back to the party, I also looked for you today in your room but you weren't there", I said as I sobbed.

She pulled me into a hug, "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you were going through all this".

"It's ok", I patted her back, "it's not your fault, you didn't know".

"No it's not", she faced Drew, "You told me your mate rejected you and that she's In love with someone else".

She stated angrily and my mouth fell open, that's why she thought I rejected him.

"I wasn't lying and I can prove it. I have proof and you'll see that she's making this up, plotting a story to defend herself and tear us apart but I won't let that happen".

He growled and mind linked Beta Leonardo who came in a minute later. He looked surprised to see all of us but cleared his throat and said, "Yes Alpha, you called".

"Yes, now could you please tell your sister that I'm not lying about my mate rejecting me. You also have evidence right, to prove she has a boyfriend?", he pointed at me.

What is he talking about?

I felt a shiver down my spine at his words and a dread filled me. I don't have a boyfriend, how can I?

I mind linked Noella, 'Have you spoken to Troy?'

'Yeah I talked to him and asked him to convince Drew but he said that he hates us so much that he threatened to drink wolfsbane if he'll take our side even if it'll kill Troy'.

I felt shock right down to my ankles because once your wolf is gone, you become human.

'He hates us that much?', I asked as pain choked me.

'No, he loves Hannah that much. Troy said he's sorry he can't help but he only wants us so he'll continue to love us no matter what Drew does'.

Meanwhile Beta Leonardo mind linked someone and there was a knock at the door a few minutes late.

"Let them in"

Let's face it.

Two guys came in and I instantly recognized one of them from the party last night who was forcing me to dance. The other one I don't know, he has blonde hair and brown eyes.

"Speak Kyle, tell us the truth or you know the consequences", Beta Leonardo said to the creep from last night.

His face showed how terrified he was, "Yes Alpha… she's my girlfriend, we love each other very much and she even made me reject my mate but asked me to keep our relationship a secret".

My head buzzed with sounds as his words struck me like lightning, "I asked her why but she excused herself saying she's an omega and it would put her in trouble".

I gasped in disbelief as Hannah turned to look at me, "Hannah no, you know that I don't want a boyfriend because of my mate and I don't even know this guy".

"He's not from our pack, I met him last night at the party and he kept forcing me to dance with him before Beta sir came", I tried to convince her.

She turned to her brother for an answer.

"No Hannah, I'm your brother so I wouldn't lie to you. She's lying to you and I don't know why when you've been unnecessarily kind to her. If you know what we saw and heard, you wouldn't be so calm".

"No, believe me Hannah. I'm telling you the truth", she snarled at me while Drew stood behind with a smirk on his face.

"Oh really, so my brother and your boyfriend are lying and you're the only one saying the truth", she said in a dangerously low voice.

"We even have evidence to prove that she's his girlfriend", Beta Leonardo handing over photos to Hannah. She looked at them and became livid.

I snatched the photos to look at them, what I saw made me look at all of them with disgust, I didn't know they would stoop so low. They were pictures of me looking so happy, kissing and holding hands with this stranger.

"What do you have to say for yourself, you filthy whore?"

The remaining parts of my broken heart filtered to dust after I heard her call me that.

"I thought you were my best friend so I was excited to tell you who my boyfriend was after mating. Everyone told me to stay away from a murderer but I didn't believe them, now I'm paying for it"

"After rejecting your mate, you want him back when he's moving on? You want to take away my happiness?" She lunged at me but Drew held her back.

Then he grabbed me and pulled me outside while I struggled to get free, we got to the sea close to the pack house and he shoved me to the ground.

My knees bled then he kicked me on my chest and stomach, breaking my ribs. He yelled through the mind link to summon everyone and they gathered in 5 minutes.

He growled as he spoke, "You're here to witness what happens when you disrespect your Alpha and future Luna".

He recounted the allegations against me which I drowned out as I looked at my best friend, begging her with my eyes but she turned her back to me. I turned my focus to Drew once he announced his verdict.

He would let them harm me whatever way they wanted, I would be dead by the time they were done.

"You cannot do this, I'm your mate"

"No you're not, Hannah is".

Drew leaned to my level and whispered so only I could hear, "I'll do you a favor and make it quick so you don't suffer".

"Troy is trying to claw his way out so he can save you but I won't allow it. You see I love Hannah so much that I even killed her true mate".

My face turned white in horror.
