Chapter8

Eclipse's POV:

Derek groans as he walks in the door collapsing on the couch as I chuckle at him. He'd been working for a week as a whistle blower so far.

"Doin' alright?" I grin as I walk into the living room from the kitchen.

"I'm dying. I forgot how much work actually working is." He moans.

I laugh as he looks up at me with a grin.

"You know, it's nice to see you do something other than scowl or smirk." He grins wider as he stands up.

My smile filters for a second before I turn and start for the kitchen.

"Well... I don't usually have a reason for smiling." I answer as I place the plates of spaghetti on the table.

Derek stays quiet as he sits at the table and we start eating in silence.

"So... I was wondering if you wanted to go out tomorrow?" He breaks the silence, "we haven't really gotten to know each other and if we are gonna make this work then I think we should learn more."

I think for a moment, swallowing the lump in my throat before nodding.

"Sounds like a good idea." I answer looking at my food.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing... I just..." I sigh as I drop my fork onto my plate and look up at him, "I haven't gone on an actual date since my fiancé died."

He stops and looks at me with a questioning look so I tell him about Jesse and how he died. He stays quiet for a bit before standing up and coming over to me. I watch quietly as he leans down and pulls me into a tight hug.

"I'm sorry this happened to you." He holds me tightly as tears drop down my cheek.

We stay like that for a bit longer before he pulls away and wipes my cheek.

"I promise, you won't regret going on this date with me."

The next day:

I gulp as I look in the mirror at the blue dress, smoothing it out. It had delicate lace covering the shoulders and falling down over the silk around my chest and torso before it all combined with the silk skirt. I take a deep breath before turning and going downstairs. A wolf whistle makes me jerk my head up and look towards the sound. Derek stands at the bottom of the stairs in a suit and tie.

"Wow... you look gorgeous." He smiles as he reaches out and takes my hand as I blush slightly.

"Thanks."

He leads me out to his Honda and opens the passenger door for me. He gets into the driver's seat and, as he starts the car, the song 'Keep your head up' by Andy Grammer comes on. He smiles as he sings to it.

I've been waiting on a sunset, bills on my mindset

I can't deny they're getting high

Higher than my income, income's bread crumbs

I've been trying to survive

The glow that the sun gets right around sunset

Helps me to realize

This is just a journey, drop your worries

You are gonna turn out fine

[Pre-Chorus]

Oh, you turn out fine

Fine, oh, you turn out fine

[Chorus]

But you gotta keep your head up, oh oh

And you can let your hair down, eh eh

You gotta keep your head up, oh oh

And you can let your hair down, eh eh

I know it's hard, know it's hard

To remember sometimes

But you gotta keep your head up, oh oh

And you can let your hair down, eh eh eh eh eh

I grin as he brushes my hair behind my ear as he parks the car in front of the restaurant and we get out. He takes my hand as he leads me inside.

"So... 20 questions is way too cliché so how about we just tell each other about ourselves? I can go first." He asks after we order, "I was born in Sapphire cove. When I was 12 my father decided he'd had enough of the villain life and left my mother. My siblings went with him while I stayed behind. I love the color purple and Chinese is my favorite food."

I smile as I hold his hands. "Well... I come from Urandia. My parents are the king and queen and I crashed on earth when I was 13. Warfalcon's parents took me in and gave me a home. When we were older we created the hero academy. Umm favorite color is hot pink and I don't really have a favorite food."

"So why don't you find your parents?" He asks as we start eating.

"They are seriously protective and would force me to go home if they ever found me." I answer.

He nods and we continue to talk as we finish our food. As the night ends, he walks me to my room before kissing my cheek.

"Well goodnight." He smiles as I open my door.

"Goodnight. I had a great time, thank you Derek."

He nods before going to his room.
