Birthday Pt. 1

The sun rose lazily over the small island of Wakemark. A small house stood proud on the large hill that overlooked the village that was already bustling with people going about their business.

Inside the house, a man and woman were still sleeping. They had a late night getting things ready for their son's eleventh birthday. Their bedroom door slowly creaked open. A young boy with black hair crept in and over to the bed. He reached out his hands and shook both of his parents awake. "Mother! Father! Guess what day it is!" he shouted excitedly as his parents stirred slowly.

"Kifeda…" Mkiea murmured to her husband. "It seems your son is up before dawn again."

"Mother, it is dawn!" the boy said, drawing back the curtains, revealing blinding sunlight on his parents. "It's my birthday! Can I go play with Kalzin and Icas?"

"Don't you want to eat first?" Mkiea asked. The boy shook his head. "Okay, go out for thirty minutes, Fallon," his mother said. She turned to her husband. "I swear, the older he gets, the earlier he gets up."

Fallon quickly got dressed and ran outside to find his friends. He rushed down the steep hill and down to the village. The village was bustling with people and animals. He noticed a dark-haired boy about five years older than him helping an older man load some barrels into a horse-drawn cart. Fallon smiled. "Icas!" The boy, Icas, turned and smiled at Fallon.

"Fallon! Happy birthday! You turn eleven, right?"

Fallon nodded. "Finally!"

"In a few days, I turn sixteen and I will see what powers I get from Maisha!"

"You get powers?" Fallon asked.

Icas nodded. "Yes, when the king and queen established the Knights of Evermore, they picked young kids so that we can be trained by experienced knights so that we learn young, and tomorrow, Maisha will come to see us and we will get powers! Kalzin hopes he gets fire and Elina, my new girlfriend," Icas smiled at saying her name, "hopes that she gets water."

"What do you want?"

"I either want earth or sun. Either one of them would be great."

"Do you want to come over with Kalzin for a little while?"

"Sure," Icas replied. "Let me go get him."
