You may and may not have guessed right. It was Hajime Iwaizumi, the childhood friend of one of the best setters in the series and a high tier wing spiker.
'Personally, I liked his character in the anime but this is the real world for me now.'
"Oi, get back into the drill, no slacking off" His vice-president persona came at me full force.
Turning to take a look at him, my eyes widened in shock at chibi Iwaizumi but quickly went back to my stoic face. I realized he was obviously going to look younger than in the anime.
Getting up without replying to him, I quickly made my way to the back of the line of another group and not my original cohort.
Why, you ask? Simple because I don't want to…MUAHAHAHA.. ahem actually, I left because no one wants to be subject to Iwa-chan's fist of love.
Looking around, I watched as the players ahead of me showcased their skill set. Observing the skill level of the players, I made note of their weaknesses. Meanwhile, while in my thoughts, I failed to notice just who was the setter, setting for my group.
Only realizing when I was at the fore-front. I panicked, knowing what was about to happen, I tried switching with the dude behind me but he refused to budge. And there it was, the ball was handed to me. Knowing my plan to stay hidden is undoubtedly done for. I resigned to my fate and decided to let loose
Absentmindedly, I turn my head down to the ball and muttered softly,
"I'm sorry little one".
Bouncing the ball to Oikawa Toru, he threw it up and I sent it back with an overhand pass.
Taking a few steps back, I watched him jump to receive the set and pass to me. I judged he was going to send a high ball my way.
Inwardly sighing at this guys boldness
I work in my approach and as I plant my foot to lift off, I make an on the spot decision to show off a bit of my vertical.
Adding a bit of power to my jump I made sure to jump enough to put my head above the net. However, it seems that was also in the calculations of the Great King as he had set the ball a few inches above the peak height a normal student my age would be able to hit. Cursing at him, I noticed the ball was still a bit lower than my hitting point. Quickly making adjustments, my hand came down at full force. Coming off as a blur to the onlookers, the ball instantly made its way to the other side of the court.
Getting back down, the whistle is blown signifying the end of the drill. We made our way over to the coach and it was time to see our stuff in action and what better way than a practice match.
Handing out pinnies of different colors, the teams were made and we sat together with our teammates. It was required for a team to have 3 seniors and 3 juniors.
In my team none of the setters were present, so I decided to take up that mantle but before I mentioned it, I was beaten to it.
"We have no setters on our team" MOB B
" Yea someone's gotta be it and it ain't going to be me" MOB A
The discussions got heated and before it could go any further, I cut in.
"I'll do it" I put in my piece.
They all looked towards me in silence for a few seconds and after registering what I said.
"No" was the conclusion they came to.
"I wasn't asking you, I was letting you know" I replied in response.
They kept quiet and looked at themselves.
The whistle was blown once more and our makeshift team was on the court. Making my way to the middle front. The other team was serving as it was a king's court to 3 points game and they had defeated the other team.
The game started with an overhand serve, MOB B easily received it sending it to me. While waiting in the lines, I was observing various things and one of them included Oikawa's setting technique. Although it didn't fit me, it would do for now.
Taking a step to the ball, I got my position right and looked at who was preparing to hit and spotted 2. Numba 1 and 3 were going to hit. I did a back set with the ball to 3 behind me, startling him. With his momentary pause, he missed his timing and instead went for a tip.
Surprising me as well, I didn't think he would get that. However his recovery was met with a 2 person wall however he quickly put it up in the air. Quickly moving under it, I set it to him once again for his chance at redemption and he didn't fail me. He hit the ball and it met the wall again but this time it fell into their court, earning us our first point. Putting an arm up, he met mine with a high-five.
And that was the start of a beautiful friendship… MY BESTO FREND
