Checkmate | Striving against Gods

Xuan Li, a monster abandoned by his parents, forgotten and lost, finally found his ray of hope: an old man who took him in and raised him. With his failing health, the elderly man told vivid stories about another world that Xuan Li had always disregarded as a mere myth. But after his suicide, Xuan Li found himself reincarnated into another world, the one that the old man had spoken about. Yet, Xuan Li found no meaning in his life. The reason he killed himself was because he didn’t want to live! So when he was reborn, Xuan Li was determined to kill himself once more! However... his body was immortal! ... Iris Black wanted nothing but to end the war. She yearned to personally slay the gods, the ones who started the war and caused her suffering. ... Shen Longwei’s heart was inked with hatred, filled with thirst for the blood of his so-called brother and the woman he once loved. And Fate smiled, giving him a chance to redo his mistakes. This time, he won’t be fooled. ... Three pieces intertwine to fulfil a fallen god's revenge and win the game. ———————— Authors Note:: Hey! This novel is made by a group of Authors! You’ve been fooled!

Flav and the other two exchanged looks before Dumdum took the lead, "What the hell are Ascension Points?" he asked aggressively.

Daemon didn't care about the attitude. After all, he was the one to provoke Dumdum first.

Crossing his fingers and putting his hands on top of the desk professionally, Daemon answered, "Ascension points are the currency we use in the Academy. Students can trade Ascension points gained from missions, accomplishments, side jobs, and other ways. The difficulty of the mission determines the awarded points."

"By the way 1000 Ascension points are a lot for first years in their first term," Ouht said from the side.

The others didn't even notice when but at some point in time, Ouht was sitting down on a seat not far from Daemon's desk. 'That's a master for you,' Flav thought with clenched fists and shining eyes.

"As I was saying," Daemon glared at Ouht for interrupting him. "With Ascension points you can get martial skills, cultivation techniques, materials, pills, weapons, etc. The better the stuff the more points you will need," he said with a proud smile. "And my Ascension Academy has everything."

The three had already started relaxing and got used to Daemon's arrogance, this feature was something he displayed with no shame and was pretty proud of it. He should be arrogant since he was the Principal of The ASCENSION Academy.

"Ahem mission Ahem," Ouht reminded.

"As I said before you three are here to receive missions. The reason you are here is simple. In the batch you came from, you were the most talented among your peers. You proved yourselves worthy and as a reward, you will get your mission before anyone else," he revealed.

"So, others also have missions?" Flav asked.

"Yes, in the end all the best of all batches will get a mission but you were lucky to have more time to finish yours and as a fair person I raised the difficulty. But, in return, the reward was also raised. It's a win-win situation for you and as they say with great opportunities comes great danger."

"In other words you wanna throw us in a shitty situation and if we complete these missions we will gain an equivalent reward," Iris said solemnly.

"Exactly."

"And what if we don't do these missions?" Flav asked though his eyes showed that he will go anyway.

"Nothing. In the end you will have to do missions to survive and improve or you will fall behind," his smirk intensified.

"What will it be then? Will you take this opportunity and risk or let it slip through your hands?"

"You know what the answer will be, so cut the crap." Dumdum said in irritation. The answer was so obvious that they didn't even need to think about it.

"Good, then let's decide your missions!"

"Missions?" Flav noticed the keyword.

"Yes, missions. You and Iris will go on a mission and Dumdum here will go on another," Daemon's smirk just kept bigger and soon it became a full smile.

"So what's this mission?" Dumdum asked seriously.

"You will have to escort someone. He will be here tomorrow morning and you will get the details from him directly.

"About you two though," he looked back at Iris and Flav. "Your mission is simple. You just need to deliver a letter to the city lord of Gley city."

"Daemon!"

Ouht immediately protested only to sit back down with one look from the Principal. "Are you sure?" he asked.

"Do you still doubt me after all this time, Ouht?"

"It's not that-sigh. Fine. Do what you want, you were never wrong till now."

"Good, now that you have your missions you can go back."

"Wait!" Dumdum said.

"Why did you order that damned Qi Yuan Jian to take him?"

Ouht asked, seeing Daemon being co-operative. Dumdum shut up and listened as Ouht asked what he wanted to inquire.

"The reason is…" everyone opened their ears to hear what he had to say.

"I didn't."

"You… didn't?" Ouht asked back. Was he tricked?

"Nope, I was even going to ask about that student but as soon as you barged in you assumed I was part of his kidnapping. I just played with what you started."

"Why didn't you mention this?!"

Dumdum yelled annoyed, but his small form's voice was too cute.

"You guys shouted at me when you entered," he faked a pitiful and hurt expression.

"So, he took him without any order?"

Iris asked back to make sure.

Daemon went silent for a while before a smile blossomed on his handsome face. "Yep, you got fooled. Hahahaha," he broke out into a rumabacious fit of laughter and held his stomach while doing that.

Clearing a tear at the corner of his eye, daemon looked back and found the others unamused. "Cheer up, knowing him, he wouldn't do anything…. Or would he?" Even Daemon seemed unsure, showing how often the white swordsman's personality changes.

"Alright then, will you deal with it?" Ouht broke the silence with a deep voice.

His white unfocused eyes looked directly at Daemon's for the umpteenth time today. Only when the latter nodded heavily did he let up.

"Let's go, children. If something happens to Xuan Li, I will hold him responsible and believe me neither of us wants that situation to happen."

Following Ouht, the three left Daemon's office forgetting that the vice principal of the Ascension Academy just threatened his direct superior and Principal.

Flav quickly caught up to Ouht and whispered, "Will it really be alright?"

"Don't worry. Although he doesn't seem like it, Daemon is reliable and a man of his word. If he said nothing will happen to Xuan Li then nothing will happen. You just concentrate on your mission for now because believe me it won't be easy."

"So, what did he say?" Dumdum accelerated when he saw Ouht farther away and asked Flav.

"He said Li will be fine and we should worry about our missions."

"I hope he's telling the truth," Iris also caught up and unconsciously muttered surprising Flav and Dumdum.

'Did she really say that?' both exchanged eyes that asked the same thing.

The rest of the trip was uneventful. After reaching the dorms, the three parted ways. Flav and Dumdum went to their room and Iris did the same.

The night passed quietly and a new day came. Today, the three would go on their missions and agreed to meet early.
