6 Into the City

On my way, I managed to kill 4 wolves that tried to attack me. Not stopping for them, I simply put their carcasses in my inventory. Continuing to head towards the city, I only stopped one time to eat some rabbit jerky and drink some water. Stopping again when I was out of the forest, I saw a line leading into a gate into the city.

Getting in line, I realized that I stood out like a sore thumb. When I looked around I noticed that most of the people in line were men, who looked like they've seen some things. Ignoring that fact, I knew I would have to wait at least a few hours before I'd be able to get into the city.

Spending 2 hours in line, I finally managed to get to the gate. When I got there, a man who looked like a guard came up towards me.

Guard 1: Ma'am, do you have an entry permit?

Me: Nope. I don't have any money either. I do have about 48 Magic Stones that I got from goblins in the forest, but that's about everything that I've got that's valuable on hand that isn't my sword.

The guard paused for a moment and thought.

Guard 1: That'll work. Follow me, we'll get you a permit.

Me: Thanks!!

I followed the man into an office off the main entrance of the gate. Once they were done verifying the stones, they gave me a paper and told me to go ahead and enter the city. Thanking them, I decided to get a refresher on the city from the System.

System:{There are a few points to remember. The main sources of money in the city is Magic Stones and materials from monsters in the dungeon, equipment made by blacksmiths, and the Red Light District. It is better to join a familia sooner rather than later so that you have a reason for being strong, otherwise you wouldn't normally be able to level up or increase your parameters. The dungeon is in the center of the city, and you can tell where that is because of the big ass tower towards the center of the city. It'd be better if you head towards the guild to ask if there is a familia you can join to avoid too much suspicion.}

I decided that the familia problem should be a priority, but first I would need some money. I would go to the dungeon, defeat some monsters and get their Magic Stones.

Heading towards the center of the city, or the dungeon, I didn't expect to see so many different races. Thinking about it, I did have a dragon, white tiger, black turtle, vermilion bird, and a progenitor cued up as my bloodlines, so it would only make sense for there to be different races in a city.

When I got to the center, I was surprised to see just how big the tower was. I couldn't even see the top of it. Deciding to head into the dungeon I set forth to earn me some money. Before entering in, I decided that it was time for an upgrade in equipment so I went through the shop and asked the system to pull up swords.

Me: 'These are all good swords. Might as well go for the best, buy the [Reinforced Enchanted Mythril Sword]'

After telling the System this and waiting for the transaction to finish, I went further into the dungeon. Walking towards the stairs, the guard standing there stopped me.

Guard: Ma'am if I might ask, what familia and what level you are?

Me: I'm not in any familia and I am level 1 because I just got to the city today.

Guard: Please heed my advice ma'am. Don't be overconfident, it is what kills most promising new adventurers.

He seemed to be genuine in his concern, but I knew I could handle it.

Me: Okay I'll keep that in mind, thank you sir.

Heading down the stairs, I found myself in a cave. The walls were damp and I could hear water dripping from the ceiling. The floors blended in with the walls, and the dark colored rock made it hard to tell where one ended and the other started. Slowing my pace, I pulled out the sword I had just had the System buy. It was a good weight, a little heavier than what I had been using but still good.

I took a few practice swings next to me as I walked, keeping an eye out for some monsters. It wasn't long before I turned a corner and found myself face to face with a monster.

Me: 'System, what is that thing??'

I held up my sword and pointed it towards the monster. It turned its body towards me, and I stared at how weird it looked. A wolf's head sat on top of a human body, with fur leading down the back of its body before turning into pants.

Me: 'At least they're not completely naked I guess.'

System: {These are called kobolds. They are low level monsters that spawn in the same areas as goblins. They should be easy for you to defeat, but they are faster and more agile than the goblins.}

I dashed toward the kobold, but he blocked my blade with his wolf claws. Jumping away, I squinted at him and looked for any weak spots. Before I could look for too long, the kobold let out a howl before jumping at me. He snapped his jaws toward my face, but I smacked him back with the flat of my sword.

Swinging out in an arc, I cut him clean through the midsection. He fell to the ground with a thud before disappearing and leaving behind the familiar little stone.

I pocketed the stone and kept walking.
