Charming Beauties

A happy future awaits every child who has been born into the world. However, that could not be said for Rodrick Leinart, a man who was less fortunate enough to live the early years of his childhood with a happy and complete family...only for it to end up in a tragedy: behold, his ruined family. Dealing throughout life after the outcome of his father's infidelity, he vowed to become a man who his mother could be proud of. ...but when he chooses to play the most popular game of his time, a VRPG harem-based game with the potential to help him financially, he is torn between two choices: play the game and earn money, or honor the promise he made to his mother. So? What does he do? He plays the game in the opposite way as advertised! "Harem? What harem? I only choose to have one wife!" ▪︎ ・・・ ▪︎ TRIGGERS ▪︎ ・・・ ▪︎ 1.) First-Person Writing (I know, but it is what it is...I promise it will be enjoyable though. The story will start first and foremost with plentiful observations though, so if that's a red flag, don't read it hahaha.) 2.) Slow Burn Romance (Just because it's nice to see romance bloom slowly...from nothing. And also because it's underrated.) ▪︎ ・・・ ▪︎ AUTHOR'S NOTE ▪︎ ・・・ ▪︎ But seriously, who knows? You might enjoy the story despite these triggers. Just give it a shot, maybe the first 30 chapters? :

Rosylviana Edensfiend

Lunch ends afterward, and I immediately grab Mother's cane and help her up, aiding her in her walks. "Ma, you could always ask me to escort you to the market...I don't mind doing it," I say, looking at her worriedly while I open the door and help her move out.

I really want to help my mother, but it doesn't seem like she wants me to. She's shaking her head and avoiding eye contact with me.

"Bah! Don't tell me what to do! I don't even want you to go out and buy groceries for me, so why would I ask you to escort me?!" She fakes her angry tone, looking at me as if I'm an idiot.

How many times has that look been directed to me today?!

Well...I suppose it's fine since I am her idiot son.

"Besides, don't you have that new game you got delivered today?" She asks, making me flinch momentarily. I try to come up with a million explanations as to what excuse to say, but she cuts me off from my thoughts.

"I want you to enjoy your games, it's been a while since you picked one up." She laughs, making me smile. "Playing games was also a hobby I lost after dad left me, huh." I thought to myself, as I escorted Mother out.

"Besides, it's that age of yours already...I figured you would have been interested in girls when you were in your teens, so I was quite worried that you weren't crushing on anyone in your teen years...especially when you were thirteen." She sighs dramatically, as I look at her with exasperation.

Same old mother with her drama. "For a moment, I thought my son would be gay," She says, but there seems to be no change in expression on her face.

Out of curiosity, I ask her a question. "But what if I were gay?" I say, squinting my eyes at her, and she only looks at me with shock.

"You are?! And you only decided to tell me now?" She says, a hint of betrayal in the look of her eyes.

I keep my silence, not saying anything at all for the first few seconds. Afterward, when I thought 2 or 3 seconds were done, I stuck out my tongue.

"Of course not...I was just curious if that would change anything about how you see me," I look at her sincerely, wanting to know her answer.

It's not because I am gay...it's just that in some societies, especially Asian ones, being gay could signify something like a weakness. Something to be disgraced on, even.

She ends up bursting into laughter and shakes her head. "Change anything? Why would it? You're still my little boy! All that ever changes is that I'll call your partner son-in-law instead of daughter-in-law," she teases, as she lets go of my hold on her and grabs her cane.

I smile at her response, thinking that it could be a clue to how I could find a good wife in that game. Someone willing to accept me for all I am, no matter how the world sees me.

Soon after, I greet her goodbye as she walks down the path to the market. In the end, I am left to my own devices...and now...I really must surf the web and forums for any information about Charming Beauties.

With a single tap of my computer, I immediately see the forums...being bombarded by pictures of the players and their wives.

Except...this is actually nuts! It's degenerate!

Why are they sharing something like that in public without even adding an NSFW tag?!

Well, so much for knowing what most other players think of the NPCs in the game...they're just treated like tools.

Let's go back to the topic though, since that 'part' of the player-base is just...disgusting.

Thankfully, after scrolling down a bit more, I see a link that shows me the forums of the game. One that focuses more on the game's story and NPCs that the player will encounter.

The plot of the game goes...

Belunia's Origin! [Posted 11 months ago]

SelflessVenerate: Here's my take on the story of this world, you can trust me. I have 5 rare beauties and an epic beauty who so happens to be a mage. So far, here's what I've gathered from my ladies: In the world of Belunia, which was said to only be inhabited by women, there lay a great disaster that led to the change of everything revolving around this world. Magical beasts and monsters emerged from the skies, waters, and lands, forcing those women to take on classes and learn skills that could help them defeat these beasts.

SelflessVenerate: For thousands of years, these women have been successful in their fights with these mysterious and magical creatures. However, due to their lack of population, every warrior lost would be akin to losing a whole troop to help them fight against those who have invaded their lands...and thus, came the players. Males come into their world to solve their issues of population and defense.

I read the excerpt, looking at the text with a skeptical gaze. It may have a credible source...but I think there's something much more to this world than meets the eye. Something...hidden. Nonetheless, I shouldn't dwell on it too much and check other stuff out.

...30 minutes later, I ended up reading through the basic tutorials, date spots, and the whole currency and trade list for all the known ingredients and materials in the game. I try to familiarize myself with everything I read, especially with the trade list. After all, I'm going to focus more on being a merchant to maximize as much money as I can.

...and after a few more minutes of mindless scrolling, I came across a forum discussion titled "Legendary & Mythical Beauties". Of course, given my curiosity, especially with that Rosylviana NPC, I paid attention to the comments and rumors posted on the forum.

Legendary & Mythical Beauties [Posted 10 months ago]

Littletiger894: Is it just me, or are all legendary beauties inaccessible? I didn't even know that a mythical beauty existed until I saw the tutorial I saw from the official game developer!

Kewlsaus265: Well duh, they're meant to be a rarity...but I've heard you can get a legendary beauty for free if you can fulfill her conditions...

Oblongparenthesis7: You talking about Rosylviana Edensfield from Catelia? That uptight psychopathic woman who wore the clothes of those taoists from Murim comics? Don't do it, LOL. You'll have to lose your rights to a harem if you want to marry her.

HungM32: I mean...anything for free coochie.

Kissmaster123: Don't bother. Even if you agree to be her husband, she will just reject you if you're not sincere. Like b*tch, I don't even want you, I just think you're hot. 😂

LacedIntent Replied to Kissmaster123: Well, we have to consider where she's coming from...she's the guardian of Catelia, and basically the deity who watches over they're continent with the intent to ensure that their continent is in order. It's going to be hard to be the husband of such a wife if the only thing you are is trash. 😂

Kissmaster123 Replied to LacedIntent: Trying to lecture me, bro? You can't even use "they're" proper grammar, LOL. But if you're so confident, why don't you end up marrying her then, hmm? 😂

LacedIntent Replied to Kissmaster123: I don't think I need to when I already have 27 beauties in my harem. What do you have? A wooden ring? 😂

...I keep my silence, avoiding the arguments in the comments and focusing on the key points, learning anything that could help me win over that mysterious NPC I met in the game just hours ago.

This time, I'm going to be much more prepared! Especially when I knew this time that she might be a good partner...especially when she's a responsible guardian that her people look up to.

It's hard to be someone who bears responsibility for a big population...not to mention a whole population of a continent.

I grin to myself, thinking of how I could win her over with my sincerity...it's the only way I know how since that was how I got my mother to smile and be happy again after father left us.

However, I can't help but feel like something's missing...

I try to think of any reason why, and I'm left right back at the start of another problem...

"Ah, right...forgot I did have a bad first impression on her..." I think to myself, facepalming, looking at my computer screen with a dazed look in my eyes.

"Oh well...let's hope that she won't outright decline my marriage proposal..."

Thank you very much to the 4 people who have added this book in their collections even when I've only written up until chapter 6! You guys are my inspiration!!! (Date Recorded: 5/19/24)!
