A series of notification appeared on Shin's phone.
'Wraith, huh... she's not bad'
He stared at Shigeo's character card regrettably but eventually shook his head. He would have preferred the best card but again, Wraith wasn't bad.
With the small disappointment out of his mind, an excited smile graced Shin's mouth as he opened his character cards.

[Card ascension - 500K CP]
This was Wraith's card.
She seemed to be worth 3 stars out of 5, which surprised Shin as he remembered that her price was quite high. Then again, he probably wasn't the best judge of that as he had a measly 10CP.
Shin didn't feel too depressed at this. He had plenty of time to increase his CP. And besides,
His eyes moved to the bottom of the card. The system would allow him to upgrade the card from 3-star to 4-star.
Moreover, the CP requirement was a lot lower than using a card summoning to get another 4-star character, which could mean, that it was a benefit of upgrading a card, or Wraith's upgrade would be weaker than a typical 4-star, though that seemed unlikely.
Either way was fine for him as he couldn't see himself buying the upgrade anytime soon if it was 1M CP, which is the amount needed to summon a 4-star character. Granted, 500k wasn't any lower to him right now. But well, he'd take what he can.
Wraith had three skills. Except for the longer duration of the Dimensional rift, It was all identical to her skills in the game.
'All her skills are utility though...'
They couldn't be used to initiate attacks, rather they were more for evading. Still, the stats bonuses did make up for that.
'Wait, If my stats went up by that much, why do I feel no different than before?'
Frowning, Shin checked his stats. And as expected, they were the same unremarkably even ten points.
Shin went back to his character cards and checked every inch of the screen.
"Ahh..."
He found the cause. There were two pages to the app, one was for the character cards he had, and the other was five slots. Of which, only one was unlocked.
He slotted in Wraith card and without a warning, he felt an intense pressure in his head.
"Argh!"
Shin fell to the ground, clutching his head in pain. He screamed in pain as memories foreign to him entered his head.
It was a few minutes later when he was finally able to breath, sweat rolling down his face as his stomach heaved up and down.
He just received Wraith's memories.
Skills and experiences that couldn't be achieved back on earth were stored in his head. Yet Shin couldn't find himself to feel excited as he laid down feeling incredibly exhausted. To make it worse, countless voices whispered indistinguishable words to his head. Unable to keep endure the weight of his eyelids, he closed his eyes.
...
It was when the sun was nearing the horizon that Shin woke up.
The unbearable pain that invaded his mind and body just a couple of hours ago were now gone. In fact, after stretching a bit, he couldn't remember a time his body has felt as rejuvenated like right now.
"My movement feels so smooth!"
Shin jumped a few times and smiled happily. It felt like he could run a hundred meters in under ten seconds.
However, Shin didn't check whether that was true. That was because there was a something more exciting to address. The new knowledge of skills in his memories.
He closed his eyes and felt currents of energy coursing through his body. It was a pleasant sensation. It almost seemed nostalgic yet foreign.
Using his new memories, he guided the energy and gathered them to his arms. It was prickly as electricity built up on his forearms.
Opening his eyes, Shin clenched his hands close and he felt himself enter another world. He was on the same beach yet, everything suddenly had a lack of color. It was a world of black and white, with a tone of blue.
He felt a heavy pressure build up in his hand.
Unable to hold it, his hand shook and opened. The discolored world faded into normal.
'That's a bit taxing'
Shin wiped his sweat off his forehead.
That was Wraith's signature ability, 'Into the Void'. It allowed him to enter the void to avoid all damages and reposition.
Right now, he was unable to stay there for more than ten seconds. But Shin smiled. He was certain he could extend it. After all, it wasn't like he was forcibly kicked out of that world, It was because he couldn't endure the pressure. Once he got used to it, he was sure he could stay in there for much longer.
Shin nodded at his analysis and took a moment to catch his breath.
It was time to test his second ability.
He gathered his energy to his arm once again, but this time, his other hand held his forearm tightly.
Electricity rose around it as a ball of energy formed in front of his hand. Moving past the ball, Shin ran as far as he could from it. With the increasing distance, he felt his energy rapidly depleting.
Once his energy was half empty, Shin clenched his hand close and another ball of energy formed in front of him. The spherical energy expanded to a portal with a size enough to fit his body, outlined by streaks of electricity uncontrollably jumping around.
Shin looked back and found the same had happened to the other sphere of energy.
With no hesitation, he entered the portal. He suddenly felt disoriented as he lost control of his body. It didn't take long for his body to travel the void through the portal he created.
"It works!"
Shin stood at the other end of the portal.
His face turned into a grin as the happiness from experiencing otherworldly skills finally hit him. To be honest, it still felt felt a bit surreal.
He laughed like an idiot for a few seconds before getting embarrassed enough to move on.
Now the only skill left was Wraith's 'Voices from the Void', a really useful skill that would help him avoid any sudden attacks.
Testing the skill was probably best for later as he would need to be in danger to do so. But he had no doubt that he had it, he still remembered the voices when he equipped the skill card. It was partly why he collapsed after all.
Speaking of that, it probably would be for the best not to collapse again with the night approaching. His priority is to find shelter. Shin didn't want to sleep out in the cold and he was also weary of any dangerous inhabitants of this clearly wild island.
All planned and ready, Shin got up and swept the sands of his clothes before entering the forest.
After searching for half an hour, he found a small cave. It didn't seem to inhabit any dangerous creatures so he settled in it.
As precaution, Shin blocked the way further in to the cave by pointing his phone and taking out the boulder out of his inventory. This was to block the way in, so anything living there wouldn't be able to sneak up on him.
Finally, he lit up a campfire by smashing two rocks together. It took him nearly ten minutes of frustration to get it right but it was worth it.
He used some sticks and a thick branch leaves to cover himself.
The fire kept him warm for a bit before he extinguished it.
...
The next day, Shin woke up feeling incredibly hungry.
He just realized that he hadn't eaten yesterday, of course he would be starving.
Shin ignored his hunger for now and took the morning to think.
After some planning, he had three goals; Find a river to wash himself, get food and look for civilization.
'Should be easy'
With that, Shin set out to the forest once again.
While walking, Shin remembered the one thing he didn't do yesterday, and that was to check his item card.
Quickly taking out his phone, he navigated to the last app and opened it. There was two pages, the first one was similar to a store. In it was a list of items ranging from miscellaneous things like a kitchen knife, to weapons like swords and spears. Looking closely, there were items that belonged to characters in different fictional worlds.
For example, he found the sword Samehada which belonged to Kisame and Virtuous Contract belonging to 2b.
Shin smiled happily as he browsed the list. Unfortunately, his bubble had to be burst as the prices of most the items vastly exceeded his current 10CP.
"Haha... Of course."
His 10CP hasn't a failed to bring down his mood.
With a sigh, Shin stopped scrolling through the list as his hopelessness grew with the rising of the price.
Moving into the second page, he was surprised to find a card. He tapped on it and was greeted to a description.
[Wraith's Heirloom (B)]
Kunai of unknown origin. Does dimensional damage and 50% more attack when Wraith card is equipped or when Wraith skills are used.
Indestructible.]
"It's Wraith's kunai!"
Shin shouted. As someone who had was lucky enough to get the heirloom in the game, he was all familiar with it.
He took it out of the page and into his hand. He immediately noticed the streaks of electricity that ran through the sharp edges. With a clear surprise, Shin observed the item.
It was a slick kunai. Its blade had four small holes to make it lighter and one big hole underneath the handle for handling.
With a spin, the kunai swiftly moved around his hand, Wraith's memories aiding him. It allowed him to play with the kunai with proficiency he shouldn't have.
He held into the kunai firmly and swung it to a tree near him. With the hit, there was a flash of blue as a dimensional sphere appeared for a second, as if he had put a hole in space, before shrinking out of existence.
Then the tree cracked.
He had lightly swung at it and it cracked. It was amazing. Originally, he was only planning to catch some small animal for food, but now... he felt confident hunting something bigger.
Although his new skills were all lacking in terms of attack, he should be able to compensate with his stats and this new weapon.
Shin grew confident.
That was exactly the moment a stern and serious voice spoke to his mind.
-Behind you-
Shin paused for a second before he realized where the voice came from. The 'Voices from the Void', his mind started with the complications of the skill activating, then it hit him; he was in danger.
His body immediately tensed at his realization. He rolled forward as fast as he could but he he was too slow.
A large scratch landed on his back.
"Ugh!"
Blood sprayed from his back and colored his black shirt darker in red.
Shin really wanted to laugh at himself right now. Of course he had jinx it and get be ambushed. By a wolf no less.
The wolf stood a few meters in front of him cautiously. It had grey fur and a size that seemed much bigger than normal wolves, reaching at least half his height.
Shin grit his teeth as he felt the wound on his back bleed. Not the best start in a fight but at least he could move.
It was at this moment the wolf decided to rush and leap towards him.
Thanks to his enhanced stats, Shin was able to avoid it by jumping to the left. But before he could breath any further, the wolf's rush didn't stop there as it chased after him again.
It swiped its claws with a growl.
Shin jumped back and tilted his torso but the wolf was able to land another scratch on him. This time on his chest.
Before the it could launch another attack, Shin jumped as far as he can. His breath felt heavy, yet the pain on his chest taught him a lesson, and he kept his eyes on the wolf.
The wolf ran up to him once again, this time going for another leap. Completely focused, Shin dodged to the right and swung his kunai at the wolf's body as it flew past him.
With a flash of electricity, there was a sphere of ruptured space from the hit. Combined with his strength, the wolf flew back and hit a tree with thud.
It let out a pained shriek and stared at Shin angrily, he stared back at it and this time, he took the initiative. The wolf tried to stand back up but it was too late and his kunai went straight to its neck. This time, there wasn't a hole in space but a sharp line, it went through the flesh of the wolf and separated its head from its body seamlessly.
Shin stood with heavy breaths before he stumbled to his butt. He could still feel the fear and adrenaline in his body. But with his passing breaths, relief and fatigue hit him.
Standing before he could get any lazier, Shin went up to the wolf's body and stored it in his inventory. He looked around cautiously as his his muscles tensed.
Wolves hunt in packs. A phase that he just remembered.
Not willing to stay here any longer, Shin ran back to the direction of his cave.
