8. Precognition

"Hey you over there, what are you doing here."

Just when I was moving around the area searching for monsters, I heard a human voice.

'I couldn't detect them through [ tracker ] ability?'

I thought as I stared at three humans standing far away from me.

Two were middle aged men, the third one was about my age. Middle age men were standing beside the younger men in protecting formation.

By the equipment all of them were wearing. Eric guessed that they were from some random guild.

"What else? Hunting monsters?"

I replied curtly.

Hearing my tone face of the younger man became dark.

"You! How dare you talk to me like that! Do you know who my father is !?"

"Don't know, don't care."

"He is the guild master of Fallen Landers guild, a gold rank guild."

The boy replied as he puffed up his chest. simply ignoring my answer.

"Whatever, what do you want from me?"

' he is so proud of being a son of A rank awakener. I don't know how many of them there are in the Alastair family.'

I thought, as I asked the boy what he wanted from me.

"You- let it be I'll forgive you this one. My name is Mike Morris and I want to give you a special chance to help us catch the C rank monster."

Mike's attitude suddenly took u turn. As he asked me to join.

Seeing that I was not answering and just staring at him, Mike again asked.

"So what do you think?"

"Is C rank monster stone hound?"

I asked as I stared at Mike with an emotionless face.

after all that was the only C rank monster in the nearby area.

Stone hound was a C rank monster with powerful defence and high sensitivity of smell, that's why once it senses its prey it never lets them go. Meaning? While dealing with stone hounds, it's a hunter or be hunted.

"Yes!"

Mike replied with excitement.

"Sorry but I'll decline your offer."

'They probably just want me to be bait. Although I can hunt D rank monsters without much problem , C rank is a whole different matter, at least not until I get more familiar with my power.'

I wasn't stupid as this type things were very common in wilderness. 'Strong forcing weak to obey. although awakeners organization is maintaining some rule it still doesn't change the most primitive rule of animal. "Survival of the fittest" '

Listening to that answer Mike smile faded away and his face was like he had eaten something sour.

"Hey brat! come with us while I'm being nice."

I just stared at him as if he was some clown dancing in front of me. I moved his gaze to two middle aged men who were standing beside Mike.

"Are you sure you want to create trouble in Alastair's territory?"

Although the two men didn't say anything. They were already sweating just by hearing the Alastair family's name.

"Alastair family? What reason would they be here for? And even if they did come, nearest to us is the youngest son of a fire beast whose mother ran away while he was just 1 year old. What pro-"

As Mike was talking he suddenly moved toward the right side. As soon as he moved a purple spear made of fire passed by his head

" What the..."

Mike was surprised as he was talking And out of nowhere his ability went on full alarm as if something dangerous was coming. Mike didn't think and moved toward the right and he saw a purple spear passed by him. His head was just finger length away from the spear, if he was even one second later he would be dead by now.

"Young master, stay back!"

Two guards came in front of Mike.

In front of them, was standing Eric with an emotionless look on his face.

"A mere son of trash guild dare to insult my parents, you must not want to live any more."

I said those words as I stared daggers at Mike's face.

But Mike didn't say anything he was just looking down on the daze.

'He attacked me and he called my guild trash.'

Was all Mike could think after what Eric said.

Mike eyes widened as he shouted at two guard.

"Hey kill him! Fu*king kill him."

Two guards who were standing beside Mike were sweating heavily.

' Red hair, blue eyes and he said to "my parents" '

these were the only thing inside the guards mind . Seeing the two guards standing in daze Mike again shouted.

"I said kill him!"

the two guard immediately tried to reason with Mike.

"young master calms down I think that person is Eric Alastair if we don't stop now the Alastair family will not let us go."

"yes! yes! we should just apologise and let this matter go."

but ignoring their advice Mike didn't change his decision and even threatened them.

"You think I care! If you don't kill him then I'll ask my father to kill you both"

I just stared at them.

'Yeah we already offended him if we don't kill him now we'll even offend guild master.'

With that thought both guards brandished their swords.

both guards attacked together. as I observed there Every move I was able to react pretty fast.

[poisonous gas ]

I used my ability on two guards who were coming toward me at high speed.

Seeing the green gas one the guards stopped in his tracks. but it seems like the other one was not so cautious .

He dived right into the cloud of green gas.

"Uhak!" The guard dropped his sword and grabbed his own neck as if he was choking. His body turned slightly green as foam started coming out of his mouth. and then "Thud" his body fell on the ground unmoving.

I knew that guard had not died yet as ability which I used was from an E rank beast it was not possible to kill with it. And I also didn't get prompt of gaining mana.

The guard who saw this condition of his companions was frightened out of his mind.

He took a step back as he got ready to run away. but then

"Where do you think you are going."

He heard emotionless less voice coming out of the gas surrounding the corpse. When he turned around all he got to see was a purple fire spear barely some inches away from his head.

"Thud"

body of the second guard also fell with a gaping hole in its head.

I turned toward where Mike was to only see that he was nowhere in sight.

Some distance away.

"Fuck! if I knew he was this powerful I wouldn't have provoked him."

Mike was cursing at his bad luck to have met Eric.

"Yes it was your mistake and you haven't apologized yet."

Mike heard an emotionless voice coming from behind him. He turned around to see that Eric was approaching him at high speed.

I didn't waste time and fired three fire spears at Mike.

like before as if he already knew that spears were headed toward him, Mike ducked down And escaped from all the fire spears.

'Again, he dodged the attack again. Must be his ability.'

I thought as this time I didn't use my ability, instead I increased my speed to catch up to Mike and soon I caught up with him.

With a slight push I made him fall on his face.

This time I didn't give him Chance to get up and fired five fire spears at him. Mike tried to get up but before he could even dodge, a spear already Pierced his stomach. Before he burned whole he heard Eric's emotionless voice again.

"What use is your ability if you can't even react to my attack."

Those were the last words Mike heard before turning into ashes.

After Mike died I returned to the place where I killed the guards. There was only one body lying on the ground the other one had already turned into ash. I didn't waste time and burned the body of the guard who was knocked down by poison.

Next I focused on the prompt which appeared after killing the first guard.

[You gained the ability Enhanced agility]

[ Enhanced agility : increases your overall speed ]

After going through this prompt, I focused on the one I got from Mike. I was especially interested in this one.

[ You gained a small amount of mana ]

[ You gained the ability Precognition ]

[ Precognition : This power will only activate when you are in danger. Through this power you are able to see 5 seconds in future, the more you use this ability the more future you'll be able to see. ]

After seeing the prompt of this power I understood how Mike was able to dodge all my attack. And I also understood how right my words were even if you know that attack is coming if you are not able to Move this ability is useless.

'The power to see the future even if it's for 5 seconds. It is the most important ability I have gotten till now.'

I thought as I moved to the prompt of the guard who was knocked down by poison.

[ You gained a medium amount of mana ]

[ You gained an ability superhuman strength III ]

[ you already have superhuman strength III , they both have been integrated to become [superhuman strength IV]

[ You gained skill swordman I ]

With the last prompt I got a headache. as images of different types swordman stances and sword fundamental appeared in my head.

"what is this feeling It feels like I've been practicing with swords for at least a few years!"

but after that another revelation hit me.

"what the hell! I can even absorb someone's skill which they have spent years learning!"
