6. Brushed Past Death

After the successful hunt, Alex continued to walk forward to claim his reward.

After killing the boar cub, I went over to collect it's meat, afeterall I need food to sustain myself.

sigh, too bad the system doesn't have a inventory otherwise I would have put the whole boar in it.

Looking down at the dead boar, I didn't know how to properly butcher it and collect the meat, even on earth I have never done such thing. So I simply cut a hole in its belly and pulled out the innards then skinned and cleaned the carcass.

As I was cutting the flesh of the boar, I suddenly sensed an immense danger looming up behind me as if something was approaching fast and furiously with deadly intent. Alerted I turned around, bow drawn and arrow nocked, I focused ahead of me for any threat.

*ROARRRRRRR*

The wind picked up, blowing leaves and branches aside to reveal a gigantic red boar breaking from the bushes and charging at full speed straight towards me.

The wind picked up, blowing leaves and branches aside to reveal a gigantic red boar breaking from the bushes and charging at full speed straight towards me. It had tusks that stretched nearly to its knees, a thick hide covered in scars and wounds, and it reeked of death, both its own and others'. My eyes widened at the sight of it.

I fired my arrow. The arrow sped through the air and struck the animal but it's thick skin deflected most of the force. I quickly drew another arrow and aimed for where I thought the heart would be on such a beast since I'd never killed one before. As the arrow flew down towards the animal, I heard the sound of hooves hitting the ground and looked up just in time to see its massive body collide with mine and knock me off balance so the second arrow only grazed the boar's fur instead of piercing the meat.

My head slammed against the cold damp ground sending bolts of intense agony into my brain. I felt dizzy, disoriented, nauseous, and weak. All my muscles felt like lead weights and all my limbs went numb. I tried to move and couldn't. Everything hurt. My entire body ached. It felt like every bit of my insides were being scraped against each other inside my gut.

With enough effort, I manage to get my hands on the healing potions and poured them down my throat. The effect was immediate, within some time, the pain receded but it didn't completely vanish. There was still discomfort, stiffness, and soreness, especially in my backside. I struggled to sit up. The world spun around me when I finally managed to push myself upright. A wave of vertigo hit me so hard I nearly fell again. With great difficulty, I steadied myself. I took a deep breath and forced my legs to stand.

I staggered forward and collapsed to my knees, clutching my side when I realized my ribs were badly bruised. They stung terribly when I pressed on them and they hurt just sitting there in place. I winced with each breath that moved across my lungs.

I leaned on a nearby tree and tried to catch my breath while looking around at everything happening around me.

Looking ahead I saw the enormous beast sniffing around the dead boar. Its eyes looked bloodshot as though it were rabid or mad and ready to kill for the sheer fun of it.

The monster opened its jaws wide and roared in fury.

As It charged at full speed towards me and I could see it was going to ram into me before I got too far away. I had nowhere to run to. It came barreling down at me, teeth bared, roaring in anger and hatred as if its very existence was threatened by me.

"Well.... fuck!!", I mumbled under my breath, trying to gather strength and energy to do something. My head pounded and the throbbing sensation spread throughout my whole body.

In desperation I rolled aside as fast as my body could go and managed to avoid the giant beast's attack..

The boar crashed into the tree next to me, throwing off the bark in several large chunks. Then the beast staggered as if it was dizzy from the force of the impact, shaking it's head and groaning in pain for a moment.

With all the adrenaline coursing through my veins, I somehow found the strength to push myself up.

Fully aware of the fact that, this might be the only chance I had, Without wasting any time I nocked the arrow on my bowstring, drew back, aimed at the heart of the beast but didn't release the arrow yet.

Because, I realized the arrows weren't doing any damage because the boar was too strong and fast for him. He needed something stronger than mere wooden arrow heads in order to make a dent in this monster.

And what could I do to make the arrows strong enough to penetrate the thick tusk of the boar.

My mind flashed with images of steel armor piercing rounds, or some sort of explosive charges which would destroy the boars vital organs. But there was no such thing available in this world, so I decided to try out another idea.

I calmed my mind and tried to channel my mana into the arrow. I fused the arrow with my mana and then I focused on using that mana to enhance the durability of the arrowhead.

It wasn't easy though. The process took longer than I expected it to take.

In that time the boar got rid off it's dizziness and charged straight towards me at a frightening speed. Its jaws wide open, as if it wants to swallow me whole.

I couldn't let it get me.

I fired the arrow, hoping that it would work. And then I braced myself for the impact.

The arrow went straight to its mouth without stopping anywhere else, penetrating all the way through the beast's mouth and hitting its brain behind the skull.

The boar froze for a second, then stumbled and fell onto the ground in front of me.

I rushed towards it, grabbed the knife I kept in my belt and stabbed it's neck.

I kept stabbing at it's neck until I heard the system notification that it's dead.
