As the beasts surged closer, a tide of teeth and fur emerging from the inky void, tension sparked amongst the archers lining the parapet.

Their apprehension, however, paled in comparison to the raw terror gripping the soldiers below. Forced to stand their ground, mere feet from the wall, they were condemned to watch this horrifying mob charge at them.

Unable to move, frozen in anticipation of the inevitable order to unleash their deadly volley, they gripped their weapons so tightly their knuckles turned white.

Sweat beaded on their brows, a cold sheen under the sliver of fire light that peeked through the darkness from behind them.
