The first rays of dawn painted the eastern horizon in hues of rose and gold as Ryan and Cecil finally limped through the gates of Azkai. Their journey back had been arduous and long, adding to the toll their ordeal had taken.
The once proud stallion they rode resembled a nag more than a horse, its head hung low, its gait listless. Ryan himself slumped forward, leaning towards Cecil, his body a canvas of aches and pains. Even Cecil, usually a picture of cool composure, couldn't hide the fatigue etched on her face.
