Change of fates: The assassin wife takes over

[Status: Ongoing] ***I update when I can and have time*** ~~~~~ "I can't help but love you, even though I try not to." ~~~~~ “Every time you speak all I hear is the shrieking of a dying cat!” “Well, every time you speak I want to strangle myself!” They both shared a small silence after their statements. “Screw you, Lewis!” Clair humphed and turned her heels, changing her direction to her bedroom. “Lewis? Did you just call me Lewis?” James’s eyes turned wide as he marched after her. “Yes, and?”
“Well screw you too Ainara.” Clair gasped. “You dirty little-“
“You started this first!” Oh, she begged to differ. “You man child!” “Are you seriously speaking right now? You’re acting like a child yourself!” “Whatever I’m out of this stuffy palace!” “If you’re going to run away at least don’t announce it. Look how that turned out for you last time.” He mocked. “Well, third times the charm! L-E-W-I-S” She raised her hand picking up her pace as he still followed behind her persistently. He suddenly stopped and said, “Fine. You can try to run away I don’t care.” Clair halted her steps and turned around. “Really?” She asked. He could imagine literal hearts in her eyes right now. Not responding he turned around and walked to the opposite direction where his room was, only to realize they had the same bedroom! He then turned around and entered their room, slamming the door shut. Clair scoffed and ran down the hall to make her grand escape. ….. A few minutes later, If the guards who were trying to help up their unconscious fellow guards, didn’t witness their King pick up their Queen and drop her on his shoulder like a bag of potatoes, they would have thought he was carrying their Queen’s corpse. With her head hanging low Clair groaned. “You said I could escape.”
“No, I said you could try.” ******* Cold-blooded.Cruel.Demoness.Killer. That’s what they labeled her as, not that they were wrong. She was feared amongst all killers, many said the devil himself was afraid of her. But others insisted she was the devil herself! This was the way she survived, the way she trained herself for the most important day of her life. The day she could take revenge on the man who had stolen all her family members from her. Saved by her adopted father in the attempt to give up on her own life, she received a new identity and chance. Just when she thought she was able to put her past away, someone shows up with the intention of marrying his son off to her. Since when did she get men as offerings? Sure she was a goddess, but guys chill out! "It was love at first sight!" Her adopted father insisted. The way they both tried to strangle each other as soon as they met, was love at first sight? Chapter Thirty-Nine: Foodie

"What do you plan on doing with her?" He asked, startling her. After she pulled him out she walked in a daze and shortly explained what had happened.

She had been thinking about what just happened so much that she even forgot about his existence. "Oh, I'm not sure. What do you suggest?" She asked. A coat fell on her shoulders and she stopped walking.

"Do as you wish, just make sure a misunderstanding like that doesn't happen again. I don't want my wife in rumors with other men." He warned her and placed his hands inside his pockets.

Clair held onto his coat over her shoulders and shrugged. "Thanks." She said and sighed. "I will pretend I don't know about her hidden intentions. Anyway, give me ride yeah?"

"Sure." He accepted. After a long silence he asked her what he had been meaning to ask. "Was my home not to your liking?? Why didn't you stay like I asked you to?" He questioned Clair pursing her lips. "I prefer my own home though. I'm not used to the environment in your place." She said.

"You can renovate it to your liking." He insisted. "Nope. I rather stay in my own cozy home." She rejected. "Fine. I will move in with you. That's my last offer."

Hearing his words Clair gave it a thought. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea actually." She looked forward and she saw a car park ahead of them, the end of the alley.

Clair and James got inside the car and ended up going together. The ride was silent. Clair could tell he wasn't questioning her harshly and was being really calm with her because of her betrayal. Maybe he felt bad for her? Pitied her?

Clair wasn't sure but if her assumptions were correct she would have to laugh. There is no one that can make her feel bad. A person who can make her cry or be heartbroken does not exist. A simple betrayal like that is quite surprising but it doesn't impact her life greatly.

But that does't mean Jennifer won't get what she deserves.

Whether Ainara or Clair neither show any mercy to betrayers.

"By the way whose house are we going to?" She asked. "I'm taking you somewhere. Just wait." He responded. He had told Jace where to go earlier when they entered the car. Knowing how similar they are he hoped the place he was taking her would help her take out her frustration and hidden anger at the betrayal.

Usually he wouldn't be caring enough to consider other people's feelings but his parents raised him to treat his wife well. He couldn't just ignore his upbringing just because of the current situation. Not that he ever expected a loving marriage but still….

...

"A hotel?" Clair questioned glancing out from the window and then back at him. "I have something to show you, I think we might have to stay the night but it depends on you." He answered and exited the car. "Drive back. If there is something else I'll call you." He told Jace and he nodded in response.

James opened the door for her and she walked out. He closed the door and held her hand, guiding her inside Jade Hotel. One of the best hotels in the city.

Their menu is seafood and nothing else. On special days they would serve special meals that don't have to do with seafood but to be a customer here you must be a seafood lover.

"You will feed me? Well, aren't you considerate? I was already feeling hungry anyways." Her eyes brightened at the thought of food. She never considered herself a foodie but now she might have to since all she wants is food these days.

"No, but if you are hungry we can eat first." He coughed lightly, surprised. 'Oh...yeah I rather eat first then." She nodded her head a bit embarrassed.

They walked inside the hotel and James asked someone to arrange them a private room.

The room they got had the perfect view of the stars and the shore, where big waves crashed one after the other against the rocks. The view was beautiful and the food was delicious.

"I want shrimps." Clair mumbled when she saw the menu. She was already feeling hungry at the image in the menu. "It's bigger than it appears are you sure?" He asked her with a frown.

"Hmmm" She ordered her food and she sent him a questioning gaze. "I'm not hungry." He responded to her questioning look. "Okay." She shrugged and decided to eat on her own despite being a bit uncomfortable with eating under his constant stares.

She sighed and started peeling the shrimps. She dipped them in a pinkish sauce unique to the hotel menu only and she moaned. "Wow, I will have to order food from here more often."

James watched her in awe. 'She can eat…' He admitted inwardly. He watched her eating peacefully and he didn't speak. She seemed to be enjoying her meal too much. At some point he felt like she had forgotten about his existence so he grabbed a napkin and he wiped the sauce left on her lower lip.

Clair paused and she watched him retrieve his hand. She thanked him and ate the last shrimp. "You want more?" He was already lifting his hand and calling the waiter standing by the door.

"No thank you. This was enough." She smiled and cleaned her hands. She then looked at the small pile on her plate. 'I ate a lot of shrimps.' She laughed and shook her head.

'Indeed the food here turned me into a foodie.'

"When I bring you next time you should order the lobsters." He commented. He signed the check and he handed his credit card to pay the bill. After he payed the waiter left and started clearing up the table.

"Let's go." He stood up and handed her his hand. Clair took it with his coat in her arms and they walked out of the room not noticing how normal they acted towards each other. Their interactions were done as if it weren't anything new. They didn't even realize how used to each other's presence they were getting.

James walked her through an empty hall with just doors a few feet away from each other. He then walked her down a set of stairs and they entered the basement of the restaurant or at least that's what she thought. Instead the door at the end of the stairs opened to a warehouse sort of place.

Boxing equipment was already set inside. James closed the door behind them and he took the coat from her hands.

"Umm you want us to train…..?"

"Not exactly." He placed the coat on a bench and he also took her purse. "There are some new woman's clothes in that locker but I'm not sure if they will fit you. My friend owns the restaurant and I would often come here to let out some steam." He explained.

Stay safe!
