34 Chapter 34

Sam was at his house, painting. He had already closed the holes that the bullets had caused. Luckily, the bullets didn't hit any electricity lines. The only thing he couldn't fix was the TV, which was already in bad shape. But he was happy to have survived.

While working, his mind was absent.

The encounter with Makima. He had thought he might have died, yet somehow he pulled it off.

But that wasn't what bothered him. It was the fact that Makima was blushing and had a gentler gaze at him.

She was the Control Devil. Her abilities weren't the only thing she could use to control anyone. She might have been testing him or, worse, trying to manipulate him.

He shrugged. Maybe he was overthinking.

'I don't know for sure, but I'll play along and see where things go,' Sam thought. 'But man, those Fast and Furious references I pulled. I should change my weapon from a sword to a car.'

"Why are you distracted?" asked Power, who was sitting on the couch with her legs crossed.

Sam was pulled out of his chain of thoughts. "Why don't you help?"

"You're the one who prohibited me from doing that, remember? I can't go against your order," Power sighed deeply. "Just be thankful I helped you catch the snake girl. You owe me big this time."

"Wow, if not for you, who would have guessed what might have happened?" Sam rolled his eyes and changed his spot. "Just stay in your place."

"Yep," Power lay down. "It's so boring without a TV."

"You don't say," Sam replied.

"You know what? Do you want to have some fun?"

"Which fun?"

"Bedtime fun. Like you have with Himeno. I believe the alcohol is still intact!"

"Don't scream. We don't want the neighbors to know I have drinks in my fridge." Sam then paused, as if he realized something, and turned to Power. "You're inviting me too."

"You know, devils have needs too. And since I'm a fiend, I've got human body feelings." Power spread her legs, already excited.

Sam smiled. "Go to my room first. I'll follow you once this is over." Sam shrugged.

As tempting as it was to engage with a hot blonde, he had more important things to do.

And that was to use his leveling-up points.

Power walked beside him and gently slapped his butt. "I'll wait for you."

"That's not how we do it," Sam almost flinched. "The guy is the one who slaps the other."

"Let's try that." She then walked to his room.

Sam sighed as he thought, 'Focus.'

"Life's good."

Meanwhile, a small bird was perched by the window. Makima was spying on Sam from a distance. Although she could see, she used her sense of smell to identify people.

Makima sat on her couch, hugging one of her dogs while observing Sam, who sounded truly happy.

She had expected him to be very nervous after their last meeting. But now, he looked carefree, happy, and not even concerned about whether Makima would betray him.

'Or could it be because Power offered him the bedroom? No. If that were the cause, he would have already rushed to his room.'

Makima was deep in thought.

For a very long time, she had longed for one thing: family.

But because of her power, she could only establish relationships based on fear, not as equals. So she had given up on that dream.

Yet there was this human. Despite knowing what she was, a predator to his kind, he was treating her like family. He even called her an older sister, hugged her, and promised to protect her. And he weren't manipulated to act that way.

She would have been lying if she said it didn't catch her off guard. It gave her a strange feeling.

She put her hand on her forehead and took a deep breath.

'He's interesting. Maybe... maybe that dream can come true. No harm comes from trying'

Sam was excited when he looked at his stats, and there was one happy surprise. When he added one point to agility, making it 20, he received a notification:

[Agility up to 20 (Tier 2)]

There was a question mark next to the tier option.

Every point in Tier 2 would be considered as 2 points at Tier 1.

Man, he couldn't be any happier. That meant that even with the huge leveling-up requirements, he would still gain a good amount of power from it.

[Strength up to 20]

[HP 400/400]

[Wisdom up to 20]

[MP 600/600]

With such durability, he could be considered a tank. He might even survive a bullet as if it were nothing. And with such energy, he could execute deadly skills numerous times.

And he still had 13 AP. He was almost paralyzed because the choices were so good.

Maybe he would consider adding them after examining the skill requirements in his system.

"Sam! Are you going to let me sleep or what!" Power screamed from his room.

"Don't worry, I'm coming." Sam shook his head and took off his shirt.

Then he felt something strange, walked toward the window, and looked left and right.

'Strange...' He then looked at the bird playing next to his window. That bird didn't feel strange at all. He shrugged and went to his room. Time to make Power's meat well done.
