I Am the President

"You can go back now. I'll call you if there's any problem."

Ethan breathed out a big sigh of relief. He then turned back and fixed his gaze on Amelia.

"Alright."

After the doctor left, there were only Ethan and Amelia in the room. Ethan walked to her bed and sat by her side. He grabbed Amelia's hand and placed it on his face.

"Thank God, you're safe and sound. I don't know what I would do if you died."

Ethan lowered his head. The memory of the fire came back to his mind.

Ethan and his men crawled into the warehouse through the window when Bella and her crew pulled out. Ethan took Amelia out with his fastest speed. He didn't waste any second since Amelia's life was at stake.

Luckily, they were already out of the warehouse by the time the explosion happened. Only two of Ethan's men got hurt. Ethan and Amelia were both fine, except that Amelia passed out because she was too shocked to see the explosion.

Ethan held firmly Amelia's hand. His heart was still jumping violently. He stared at Amelia. Nameless emotion filled his eyes. Ethan felt that the whole world was deadly quiet, that only he and Amelia still existed.

"Oh, no... Oh..."

Amelia woke up from her dreams. Her face was pale, and her eyes were filled with fear. Amelia breathed in deeply. She was still very nervous.

Ethan leaned over and held her into his arms, murmuring, "It's fine. It's fine. You're alright."

"I'm not dead?"

Amelia asked. She started to recall what had happened back then.

"So I'm really still alive. What about the people who helped us?"

Amelia looked at Ethan when she asked the question. She was waiting for him to fill her in about what happened after she passed out.

Ethan nodded lightly, "Rest assured. They are fine. Two of them got some light injuries, but they were already at the hospital now."

"That's good to hear. I don't want them to die because of me. That's a crime I can't bear."

Amelia felt a mix of sadness and relief. This plan was too important and dangerous, but now it was all finished. They could continue living their lives from now on.

Ethan touched her face softly, "What are you talking about? It's all Bella's fault. She was the one to blame."

"I didn't think that you could save me. If you didn't get there on time, I would be dead in the fire."

Amelia looked at Ethan. This man had helped her more than once. He didn't leave her alone, even in the most dangerous moment. Appreciation filled Amelia's eyes.

"Thank you. I don't know how I can repay you."

Ethan smiled. He touched her hair, "You don't have to thank me. You married me. That's what I should do for you."

Amelia raised her head. Tears were shining in her eyes.

What he should do for her? Because of the so-called marriage?"

Was it worth his life?

She let out a breath of relief. Amelia's hand clutched into a fist in anger, "I didn't expect she could be so cruel that she would kill me in this way." Her voice was cold as ice. That coldness was from her heart.

Ethan sighed deeply. He patted her shoulder and began to speak in a low voice.

"Now you've learned, don't you? You were too naive back then."

Naive? Amelia and Bella grew up under the same roof for almost twenty years.

She couldn't understand why Bella would hate her so much.

Amelia cried so hard that her head was shaking. She felt that her heart was bleeding.

"Bella, you had done this to me, so don't blame me for being ruthless on you."

Amelia said that word by word. Every word ripped a scar on her heart. This pain was so intense. Maybe this extreme pain would make her feel numb and ruthless later on.

"I am reborn. I will live my life as Sophia as you designed."

Ethan nodded. He grabbed her hand tightly. Ethan was still hesitant to tell Amelia his true identity, but now that she had been reborn and changed into another identity, maybe it was time to tell her now.

"Do you know? I've been holding something back from you."

Ethan stared at Amelia. He hoped that Amelia could accept that and not blame him for hiding his true identity.

After all, they just had a narrow escape. That would certainly make people be able to accept everything.

Besides, Ethan wasn't hiding his identity because of bad intentions.

Amelia looked at him weirdly, "What do you mean? What are you hiding from me?"

They stared at each other. One regained calmness after that, and another one was filled with confusion.

Ethan let go of her hand and stood up. Though he had decided to tell her, he was still nervous about how she would react after that. Ethan took a long breath.

"Actually, I am... the president of the Grand Group."

The president of the Grand Group?

Amelia was a bit confused. She froze for a second, "What? You mean..."

Did she hear him wrong?

"Yeah, I mean I am the president of the Grand Group."

Ethan answered swiftly. He turned around and looked at Amelia in the eyes. He was relieved. They had just gone through the explosion. There was no need to hide. He believed that she would understand.

"You're the president of the Grand Group?"

Amelia lowered her head and began to think to herself, "Right. The Rolls-Royce, the mansion, and the Porsche he gave her... If he wasn't the president, how could he pay for all that?"

Noticing that Amelia had been quiet, Ethan sat down and looked at her.

"First, please believe that I mean no harm by doing this."

Amelia nodded and looked at him, "So, this is also the part of the plan. First, you made connections and cooperated with the Harper Group. Then you got me into the Grand Group so that I could change my identity and got into the Harper Group, faking my death and making the Harper family believe that they had already killed me?"

Amelia thought back to all these things that she had experienced. She felt a bit cold right now. This man had long planned everything and waited for her to work with him.

"Why exactly did you help me?"

This man wasn't simple. He was the president of the Grand Group and every woman's dream lover.

"Why would he marry me and plan everything out just to help me?"

Confusion filled Amelia's head. She didn't know how to figure this out, and she didn't know what other purposes Ethan had. She only knew that things couldn't be this simple.

"My offer still stands. Marry me, and I will help you get your revenge and everything back. I don't have other things to explain."

Ethan's eyes were filled with nameless emotion. He answered swiftly.

Amelia froze there. After a while, she sighed.

"Ever since I met you, I'm always walking on a thin thread. You are already helping me now and that's my condition. As for others, I don't care."

Seeing Amelia live with it, Ethan felt a silent pinch in his heart.

He thought to himself, "Not the time. You would understand one day."

"What do we do next?"

"Next..."
