Becky hid in the study room to regain her spirit while arranging the records and the documents on the shelves. She did a very workmanlike job on it. Although she worked on without a break, she was still in the mood for remembering the day they got married. That period was the happiest time of her life. Of course, it was possible she wasn't really trying to help him at all, but had some other purpose. This talented and handsome man who always treated her well touched her, although she knew this kind of love was temporary and only lasted like fairy tales. Because she knew when she was with him, time and the place were such a muddled blur that she completely lost track of both.
Point out something she passed by, and tell her love how it reminded her of a romantic time they spent together. She loved going out with him. It gave her a chance to show him off. She was so happy she was the one who got to sit beside him. Everyone must envy her for being with him. When she saw someone else admiring him, it made her heart swell with pride to know that he was hers. She was the envy of every woman just because she was with him. She sometimes wondered how she ever got so lucky to be dating him.
At the time of Susan's leaving, she was so speechless with joy. She even breathed a silent sigh of relief.
She felt that visiting Elias in the hospital that year was the stupidest, most reckless thing she had ever done. But, she did not regret, because she had made the right decision for her family and her love.
Elias looked like an angel that had just stepped down from the heavens, the wealthy angel. And she did not even understand why she became a person standing next to him and be his wife.
Their wedding ceremony was a bit of a myth. His injured leg had not completely healed. He was still unsteady on his feet. He could not even walk, let alone run. But he kept insisting on celebrating their wedding after five days in the hospital. His parent's anger had not subsided a little, so they did not attend their wedding.
Elias had a large circle of friends and acquaintances, and they all went there to attend their wedding. She did not have many friends, just her grandpa and some classmates at her university.
After the wedding, she was officially Lady Sophronia. At first, she thought she was the happiest woman in the world, then she discovered she was wrong. This mythical marriage only made her life miserable. She felt like she was walking on thin ice. Each step was extremely arduous.
______________
Becky finished arranging the records and the documents on the shelves, opening the door and went out as if nothing had happened. Then, she went to the laundry room, took the clothes out of the dryer, went back to the bedroom, and laid them on the bed. She saw Elias sitting up in bed, reading a book. Suddenly, she said.
"I have prepared the documents for the conference next week, except for the documents for the meetings with clients and customers tomorrow, because they just want to interact by exchanging information. What do you think, sir? Do I need any preparation?"
He wasn't aware of squeezing the pages of the book so hard in his fingers that if it was possible to crush it. Then, he gave a reluctant smile and replied, "Remember to ask the accounting department to bring the contract to me first."
"Okay, I'll send the letter of reminder later." She answered while putting the clean clothes in the wardrobe. Suddenly, she asked, "Do you want to make love now?"
What was she saying? He could hardly believe his ears. Then he looked at her face. Her expressionless face gave him no clue what she was thinking. It was like her angry face before was just an illusion of his own imagination.
He made no reply, which made Becky imply that he silently agreed with her. She took out from the wardrobe a nightdress and into the bathroom. While entering it, she informed him.
"I'm gonna shower."
She closed the door before he replied. He stared at the bathroom's door, his eyes glum.
After cleaning herself up, she hitched a bathrobe tighter under her arms and marched determinedly from the bathroom. Her face was as red as beet when she came out. Suddenly, she hastily slipped off her wrapper and stood clad only in her nightdress. He raised his eyebrow, stared at her for five seconds, then put down the book, which he was holding in his hand. She did not say a word, just turned off the light.
She suddenly plunged the room into complete darkness. However, she was used to this kind of darkness. She slid to the bed, took out the nightdress, folded it up and put it on the wardrobe. Then, she had nothing on and crawled up the bed. She crept in beside him under the bedclothes, lying prone without moving, and spoke briefly, "Do it!"
"Becky…" His fingers traced slowly down her spine, his breath coming more quickly against her skin. Elias hissed at himself, wondering why he could not resist the temptation. He hated the way she did not like to make love with him, but sometimes she would try to seduce him. He also hated this tense atmosphere.
She said nothing, just kneeling on the bed silently. Suddenly, she could feel his fingers put into that secret place, explored it, and then took his fingers out of it. She quietly waited for him to enter, passively accepting being two rivers were joined. While having sex, she was so quiet. She didn't moan or even enjoy it. He could hardly hear her breathing, as if he made love with a corpse.
The room was as black as night. They could only hear water splashing and the loud gasps of the man. Therefore, she did not see his red eyes, along with his bad mood.
After having an awful sex, she lay motionless in the bed. The bedsheet, which made her feel pain, rubbed her chest, but she was too lazy to care about it and ask him for help. Actually, she did not like the prone position, but compared it to face-to-face position, she volunteered to be like a dog lying prone without moving. She did not want to see his face, because it would turn her weak.
