"Hey Derrick, you are still coming over?"
Ping!!!
"Yeah. Did you tell mum Ariel and I are coming over for dinner?"
Ohmyglob! I haven't told mum we have an extra guest. Derrick will be so mad at me for being so forgetful. Lynette, it's time you start acting like a responsible 20-year-old, this is not acceptable.
"Mum! Mum!" I shouted while racing down the stairs. Damn these stairs, it makes me feel like I'm running a marathon. I bet I lost ten pounds already. I follow the scent of my favorite Lasagna, to the kitchen. Mum stood over the counter preparing the salad.
"Linny why in the world would you be screaming that way, you know how Dad hates being disturbed by your loud voice," Mum replied.
"I am not that loud, or am I?" I wondered to myself. "Derrick will be coming over with Ariel for dinner."
She stopped everything she was doing and gave me that 'you're done for' look. "And it never occurred to you or your brother to let me know on time," she said with her hand on her waist and the other holding a spatula.
My mum is a caring, calm, charitable and homely lady but with a spice of goofiness and a no-nonsense approach. She's one you can go to with all your problems, but do not be late when you have an appointment with her.
"It's my fault, I totally forgot. It slipped my mind," I knew she hated it when I forgot stuff, but I had to tell the truth.
"Let me guess, you were busy with your friends on, what do you call it again-"
"Discord," I said with my face falling.
"Do I have to take away all the electronics so you won't forget stuff?" she asked.
"No mum you can't, I'm an adult. It's not like I'm on Discord playing games like other kids do."
"Please Lynette Bradford, enlighten me on what you actually do because the last time I checked Google it was for playing games."
"I help people mum! You won't get it," I snapped and walked away.

"What are we having for dinner, Babe?"
"Lasagna with some salad as a side dish. Did you sleep well?" Mum asked.
"Not with all that racket you and skinny had going on. What happened?"
"She actually forgot to tell me that Derrick would be coming over for dinner with Ariel. I was this close to taking away her phone, she had to remind me she was twenty-one," Mum laughed.
"Hahaha, I wouldn't have wanted to be here for that."
******
I could hear my dad talking to my mum about dinner and me, of course. They were busy laughing and giggling. They have never acted like parents who have adults as children, rather they act like adults who just fell in love.
There was a knock on the door and I can only hope and pray it was Derrick and Ariel. I ran downstairs straight to the door.
"I'll get the door!" I said.
I opened the door and my worst nightmare stood before me. I never thought this day could get worse. Is this bad luck or what?
*****
"So Ariel, how old are you?" Mum asked. Being the investigator she is. She's always on to something when she's in her investigative mode.
"Mum, that's not how you welcome my guests," Derrick fires back.
Derrick has always been the lazy one, yet he seems to have gotten good grades in school. I wonder how he did it. And here he is with... her.
"It's OK D, she's got every right to ask, she's your mum," Ariel responded. "I am 29 years old."
"Yeah right," I snorted. She even had a nickname for him, as usual.
"Linny, are you OK? You don't seem to be touching your food," Mum asked.
"I am fine Mum, I just don't feel good," I answered.
Derrick and his girl were busy talking to each other, acting like teenagers that couldn't get their hands off each other. Only if he knew...
"Derrick where did you meet her?" I asked, trying to uncover the truth.
"Linny, her name is Ariel, and we met on Instagram." The look on mum and dad's face was horrible. "Mum and Dad, I know it seems weird, but technology has taken over."
"Taken over your brain?" I shot at him. Why is he behaving like someone who has lost his senses? He doesn't know if he did she won't be here. If he did she wouldn't be here. She kept staring at me like she wanted something, something that I too wanted to give.
"Linnet, you do not have to be rude to your brother, apologize immediately!" Mum stated.
"It's OK, I am sure she didn't mean any harm, she's just been protective of her brother," Ariel added.
I never asked for her opinion, but she tries to butt in when she has an opportunity, just to paint herself as someone who has a nice and warmhearted soul who means well for Derrick. Wrong!
****
"I'm going to ask her to marry me Linny, I think she's the one," Derrick said. He looked like he was genuinely in love but that can't be. This is not the time nor place to tell him, but he has to know before he makes any decision.
"I can see you are in love, have you discussed it with Mum and Dad? They might as well know before you play this dangerous game. No offense," I told him.
"Linny why are you acting all bitchy today? You were all in when I told you had a girlfriend, you were so excited to meet her."
"I just do not like her Derrick, there is just something odd about her."
"Linny do you know something that I don't?" Derrick asked while holding my arms so tight.
Jeez, he's so strong. "Derrick I have no idea what you are talking about, let go of me you are hurting me!" That's a lie, I knew what I was talking about.

"Ariel will you leave my room please, I do not want you in here!" I shouted, hoping for everyone to hear me, so they can finally know what has been going on. Tired of keeping this to myself, it hurts.
"Lynnette Bradford, no one can hear you. They all stepped out to get some fresh air. The weather seems nice tonight. So it's just you and I, alone, like old times." Ariel has her way. She walks up behind me breathing slowly on my neck, unzips my dress and lets it fall to the ground.
"As beautiful as always my Linny."
As always, she kissed me on my neck. My weak spot. The one thing different from before was that she did not take off her own clothing. I tried to move, but it felt as if my body was glued to hers. I felt myself getting wet and dripping down there. She turned me around "You still want me to don't you?"
"Yes... I. I. I need you. I loved you but you left me..." I said, my eyes welling up with tears.
"I know, I never meant to leave you. I just didn't want to hurt you."
"How do you - "
"Sssshhh" Putting her fingers into my mouth. "Let's finish where we left off."
She pushed me onto my bed, with her hands in between my thighs. Her gentle hands began to move slowly inside of me. I tried to hold it, but I missed her warm touch and I couldn't take it anymore.
"I'm gonna come, Ariel, I'm gonna come."
"Don't hold it, let it all out Linny."
"I missed you! Ana, don't stop!" I moaned so hard I couldn't hear anything but my name.
"Linny! Linny! Linny!" I looked up to see Derrick, Mum, and Dad standing at the door.
One thing was sure, everyone now knows the truth...
