Prologue

"We are going to have to let you go.""I'm fired?" Laurel, couldn't believe what she was hearing."No, not technically the thing is we can't exactly afford to keep you right now."

"So I'm fired? I have been here for almost three years! How is that possible?"

"No, just let go." The edgy man from corporate tried to smooth things down. Laurel was starting to make a scene and it wouldn't look good for him.

"What's the difference? You've practically just ended my life! You might me the lowest earner in your family judging by how low this supermarket pays but in my family I'm the bread winner." She yelled and didn't care that people were now staring.

Laurel marched to the locker rooms in the back to get changed. She couldn't believe this is happening. It was just a lame job at this huge hypermarket in town, Save Mart. Switching between cashier and clerk, it paid her alright judging on the number of shifts she could get in. Mostly importantly it was all she could rely on to support herself and her family back home.

She had lived in this town for five years now, since she was eighteen and spent three of those awful years at Save Mart. Before that it was just small part times, anything she could pick up. This was the only stable thing she had going for a while. She didn't know what to do.

"I just got fired!" Laurel sadly announced when she got to her apartment. It was a small space, two bedroom apartment. She dropped her things on the floor by the door and proceeded to walk to the couch and slouch.

"What!" Her roommate Ivy, exclaimed with wide eyes. "What did you do?"

She sighed sadly, "I didn't do anything. They just couldn't keep me." She said quoting her former manager's exact words.

"Oh!" Ivy said short of words to cheer her friend. "You know what we should do? Fuck them, let's go out you and still have a good time."

"I can't go out. I can't go out when I'm worried about how I'll make rent next month."

"Sure you can. You don't have to wake up early for your job tomorrow so that excuse is out."

Laurel still looked unconvinced.

"Come on! You haven't been out in forever. We better go out before you get another job because I know you are going to find one." Ivy was really working on convincing her to go out. "We go, you clear your head. It's not like your missing out on any job hunting in the night."

Laurel knew that her friend wanted the best for her but she just had weird ways of showing it sometimes. "I don't know."

"Either way your coming. Better go figure out what to wear. I can't imagine leaving you alone in this apartment all sad." Ivy said fixing her make up while at it. She was a pretty brunette, perfectly slim and had quite the character on her. They weren't friends before they became roommates but on meeting eachother they clicked immediately. Despite the differences in there characters. Ivy loved to go out, liked being around people and Laurel not so much.

"Still it won't change anything. I'll wake up hangover with a shitty life without a job." Laurel said, running her eyes to the back of her head. She looked calm on the outside but deep down she knew the meaning of unemployment to her and her family.

"Okay, I got nothing. Just come!"

"Oh, who am I kidding I'm coming."

Laurel hadn't been in a club in a while. Most of her night life was taking up shifts when she could and anywhere. She only came on celebratory occasions such as birthdays but to Ivy it was different, the night was her life.

Another reason why Laurel wasn't really looking up to tonight with Ivy was the fact that Ivy knew everyone. EVERYONE. As soon as they got inside, the loud music hovering over their ears, disco lights flashing all over the place, Ivy got recognized.

She skipped up and down excitedly even though she was holding Laurel's hand in hers. "I'll be right back."

Laurel looked at the crowded strangers dancing for a moment then made her way to the bar.

"Why is a girl like you seated alone drinking?" a deep voice asked her from behind. She had taken at least drinks since she sat down so her mind was a bit blurry.

"What is that supposed to be? A pick up line?" she asked back, getting time to actually take a look at this guy. He had moved to her side now, leaning against the bar counter. The first thing her drunk mind noticed of course was how gorgeous he looked. Her eyes slowly moved from his chest up to his eyes. She actually stopped herself from biting her lip once there eyes met. She smiled.

"If I was trying to pick you up, I would have sent a drink over here already but unfortunately for me, I happen not to be in the mood." he crocked his one eyebrow while stirring the drink in his glass. Laurel kept on analysing his every movement.

After watching him silently for a while, she suddenly said,

"Just work, shitty day." answering his question "And you? what's the reason for you not in the mood?"

A lazy smile played on her head. She figured having a conversation with this stranger wouldn't be the worst thing.

"Same." he answered. Laurel couldn't help roll her eyes. This stranger was dressed in a very expensive suit blue in colour, a rolex watch was hanging from his wrist and a few rings on his fingers.

"Forgive me for judging but you don't look like someone who would work for anyone. I assume people work for you hence your the reason people have shitty days at work." by this time Laurel had turned her seat and awarded this stranger with her full attention.

His face turned to her, studying her for a while then smiled. "Cute, but I also work for someone darling." he smirked and every single time he did that, this weird thing went through Laurel's body. "And not just anyone, my father."

He took a quick shot at the mention of his father. Signalling at the bartender to add both of them another round.

"I don't see how that could be so bad? Can't you like do anything you want?" She reached out for her shot. She had no idea what he ordered but already drunk to care.

"It's hell really. Its like bossing you both at home and at work. I can't ever live up to his standards, I'm the underdog." In just that statement alone, he took three more shots.

"You live with your father?" Laurel asked with a small giggle.

He smiled, in that whole sentence that's the part she picked out. "My living situation is very complicated."

She just smiled sincerely not knowing what to say. She couldn't quite tell if talking to this rich stranger was just helping or pissing her off the more. Some people just don't understand what they have.

Completely two different people with different problems but ended up in the same place.

"Why are you quiet all of a sudden?" he asked.

"I told you I had a shitty day at work. Cant stop thinking about it." She answered, honestly. No longer wearing the happy face she had earlier.

"Well, you can talk about it. We've just talked about mine." He told her.

She turned to him, "Okay, I just got fired."

"That's tough!" He said sympathetically, he was watching her and could tell that she was truly bothered.

"Look, I could hire you." He suggested with a smirk.

"Why would you do that? I have like zero qualifications." She said with a small smile.

"I can do whatever I want right? And you're stunning." He was staring deep into her eyes and she was just as glued to them.

"You think I'm stunning?" It was supposed to be a thought but it came out anyway.

His eyes travelled all over her body before he answered, "Hell yeah." By now the space between them was closing up. She didn't know what it was about him and his eyes or it was the alcohol but the music didn't seem so loud when she was talking to him, listening to him and looking into his eyes.

She was blushing and blushing hard. "Well, I h-happen to t-think you very attractive too."

"Oh yeah, would you find me more attractive if I did this..."

He leaned in and attached his lips to hers. Despite the common taste in alcohol both of them went at it for a while, with each second that passed they just craved for more and more of each other. He stood up from his seat, wrapping an arm around her waist to pull her closer so that there bodies are touching. He could feel her breast against his chest, his hands were all over her body. She liked it, she wasn't complaining she wanted this as much as he did.

"How about we leave this place and go somewhere more private, quieter?" He whispered into her ear as he trailed kisses all over her neck. Laurel was too caught up in the moment, she just nodded.

She was led out of the club by the gorgeous stranger whose name she didn't even know.
