Cardinal: Ignoble Scholar's New Magic Era

{{Cardinal Stories Book 3}} There once lived a scholar named Sora King, he knew the ins and outs of society as it pertained to magic, he understood and mastered the magic system that ran the world. When it came to magic there was none more knowledgeable than him, because of it he was dubbed the scholar of magic, he taught lessons and discovered theorems helping some of the greatest magic institutions and families gain a foothold. Frankly, he was a shining success in the founding generations, he helped many of history's greatest mages across the world awaken domains and create magic bloodlines that would live well beyond them. In all of his works however, the one thing Sora could never do, His one regret in all of his life, the area he felt he failed himself the most, was that he never bothered to awaken even a basic element. He never gave himself time for love because it would give the many, enemies he made leverage over him to use him for his knowledge. Consequently, he died at the age of 19 as he simply had too many enemies to fend off with just wit and resources alone, he was struck down by the magic spell of his lifelong brother-in-arms at the forefront of war. What surprised Sora however, was the fact that not only was he given a swift death, but he was put further down on the path to reincarnation, Rather than being revived 100 years later where his name would still be very well known, he was revived 1,000 years later in the modern era. His name was still known but there was no chance for him to be recognised or hunted by a vast majority of his enemies. As a plus, he not only kept his knowledge of magic but was reborn into the body of a dead orphan ironically also named Sora. In this life Sora was going to take the path of magic he so neglected till now and make himself one of the greats of history once more, and he planned to do it by breaking all possible records along the way regardless of if he went public with his feats.

Enter Sora King (P2)- Class 1E

As Sora summed up the rest of his plans in his head he heard the door to his classroom's door swing open and saw a fairly average-looking man walk in. He had the basic short black hair and dark eyes, he wore a baggy grey suit and carried himself with a slight slouch. He had an average build with fairly loose skin around his neck, it seemed like while he wasn't fat he was very unfit physically, the middle-aged man stood at 5 foot 10 and carried himself with the aura of someone sloppy and just generally unreliable. Sora frowned slightly at this but kept his reservations to himself for now, no matter how pathetic this man looked he was already a half-step advanced mage. "My name is Yagi Takada, and I am your Class Tutor for Interstellar Academy's Class 1E… today was meant to be an introductory and explanatory lesson, but I'm not all too interested in meeting you pampered little shits so I'll get straight to the point", The teacher introduced himself and said, "Mu Rina, step forward".

Sora watched as Rina got up and slowly rose to her feet, he could hear the stifled laughter when she slipped and had to catch herself, she walked in awkward steps with her eyes trying to find somewhere to set themselves to avoid the probing and scrutinizing gazes of her peers. Takada watched with slight boredom as she made it to the front. Her eyes landed on the awakening crystal.

The crystal itself was a clear crystal ball that floated over a 5-foot tall, black, stone stand with markings and runes all over its body. "Sit down on the mat, rest your back on the stand, and meditate… the crystal will guide you through the rest", Takada half-assed the explanation and went to sit at his desk. Rina sat awkwardly with her legs crossed and her back to the stand. She tried closing her eyes but she was visibly uncomfortable while under everyone's scrutiny. Takada watched her struggling to focus with all the attention on her with an annoyed look on his face, "These bloody kids" " he muttered with a sigh before getting up and walking up to her, much to Sora's interest. Takada's body radiated with a faint purple hue as he stopped beside Rina and knelt beside her.

"Listen to my voice Rina", Takada said in an unrushed and gentle tone, "You're doing great… you're almost there" " he reassured her, Sora noticed that as he spoke Rina visibly relaxed as the same faint aura slowly covered her as well. "Take deep breaths… slowly… slowly… you're doing great", Takada instructed Rina slowly and she sat up with a visibly relaxed posture, she wasn't tensed and shaky like before, and her scrunched-up expression lightened up as the aura covered her form. "Good… Good… Empty your mind…. Let the crystal aura draw you in… you're fine", Takada said once more allowing Rina to slip into a subconscious state.

A few minutes had passed before the stand began to glow with a dull aqua-blue hue as a very thin layer of ice formed around the awakening crystal, the changes persisted for well over 10 seconds before Rina herself began to exhale faint icy breath. "Well done Rina", Takada said as he withdrew the aura he placed on Rina as she left her subconscious state and came to. The stand stopped glowing and the very thin layer of Ice broke off of the crystal as Xu Rina completed her awakening with her first element being the Ice element. "Very Interesting", Sora muttered with his eyes locked on Takada, he looked mostly useless but handled the situation effectively and without using too much of his magic to influence her. If memory served what he just used was the psychic element's basic spell, Charm.

"Next up, is Yu Narong", Takada called out as both Rina and himself returned to their respective desks. Narong got up with an arrogant smirk as she walked up to the front with confident and purposeful steps, a complete 180 from the timid and awkward display that Rina had given. Narong walked up to the stand and sat down cross-legged with her back resting on the Stand, she closed her eyes without ever once losing her arrogant and conceited smirk as she meditated and easily slipped into her subconscious state not caring for a single person watching her, as though she wanted them to probe her and witness her greatness.

It also seemed like she had the talent to back this arrogance up as within two minutes the Stand shone an intense red color, as it did an intense golden fire brunt so bright and intensely that it consumed the Crystal altogether. The fanfare of Narong's awakening was so much that the class noticeably increased in temperature bringing an uncomfortable heat across all the onlookers, Sora included. The members showed uncomfortable expressions while some outright loosened some of their clothes to bear the heat. Eventually, Narong opened her eyes which shone a bright golden colour to give life to her otherwise enchanting appearance. This however was only temporary as her eyes reverted to their natural light brown hue.

To the class the difference in the classes of the first 2 students was stark, while the Ice element was useful and arguably better than fire in certain instances, Narong's Fire element has the golden fire special attribute, even In the Yun clan that specializes in fire magic cultivation and has a bloodline of ridiculous fire users, this was an exception in every regard. Blue and green flames were still within expectation but golden fire was among the 5 great flames of the universe: The black flames of disintegration, the white flames of purification, the Dark red flames of Hell, the Orange flames of the supreme sun, and the Golden flames of destruction. Even in Sora's books, Narong was a talent he had to be wary of if he wanted to thrive in this generation, at least if going by the quality of her awakening alone, and If this was the bottom tier class E what on earth would the others possess??

"Next up is Huang Su-lin", Takada called out as Narong returned to her desk. Su-lin walked out with a significantly deflated expression compared to the passively confident one she had when she hadn't seen Narong's awakening, this went for everyone as they had subconsciously set Narong as the student to beat in the class. Su-lin approached the crystal and sat as Takada instructed before falling into her subconscious state, she temporarily swallowed her worry about the result as she knew it would only hinder her awakening and meditated wholeheartedly. It went unnoticed by most but Takada, Sora, and Longwei all noticed this very subtle change she made before slipping into her subconscious.

Unlike Narong, Su-lin took 4 minutes to get a reaction, but once she did the Stand began to generate a dome of wind around Su-lin, It started with a slight breeze at first, but then it slowly got stronger and stronger, It got stronger most students were bracing themselves as the force was truly something suppressive, even a half step advanced mage like Takada winced slightly at the force of the wind and each evolution strengthen his body so this was a noteworthy development. The crystal shone white as Su-lin levitated ever so slightly off of the ground, confirming her awakening had fully manifested and that she had awakened the wind element. She wasn't the golden fire of destruction level but her talent was still something of note, she was certainly more talented than Rina, to say the least. The fanfare eventually died down and Su-lin returned to the ground without noticing the ruckus she called. "Next up is Zhu Longwei", Takada called out as Su-lin returned to her seat with a pondering expression on her face.

The rest of the class had their turn and were permitted to leave to begin their practice, but none of them were disappointed with their awakenings, even those with generally less impressive elements showed talent and promise well beyond their years from just their awakening. The awakening and subconscious class rankings went as follows:

Zhu longwei- Lightning (Thunder Kaiser)

Mu Hanjin- Lightning

Wei Xiren- Fire (Purification flame)

Huang Su-lin- Wind (Heavenly Gale)

Yu Narong- Fire (Destruction flame)

Xu Ron- Light

Huang Bo-lin - Earth

Mu Rina - Ice

Xiao Lumin- Water

Sora wasn't surprised when Takada began cultivating to pass the time while Sora attempted his awakening, there was only so much time a powerful mage could go without attempting to cultivate their strength further. It also didn't help that there was so much talent before him, the teacher probably wouldn't notice even if he did something ridiculous. Sora sat cross-legged with his back up against the stand as he meditated first, clearing his mind of all distractions. Takada stepped out to use the bathroom during this time. Sora noticed his teacher was gone and no longer hesitated as he fell into his subconscious state.
