Cardinal: Ignoble Scholar's New Magic Era

{{Cardinal Stories Book 3}} There once lived a scholar named Sora King, he knew the ins and outs of society as it pertained to magic, he understood and mastered the magic system that ran the world. When it came to magic there was none more knowledgeable than him, because of it he was dubbed the scholar of magic, he taught lessons and discovered theorems helping some of the greatest magic institutions and families gain a foothold. Frankly, he was a shining success in the founding generations, he helped many of history's greatest mages across the world awaken domains and create magic bloodlines that would live well beyond them. In all of his works however, the one thing Sora could never do, His one regret in all of his life, the area he felt he failed himself the most, was that he never bothered to awaken even a basic element. He never gave himself time for love because it would give the many, enemies he made leverage over him to use him for his knowledge. Consequently, he died at the age of 19 as he simply had too many enemies to fend off with just wit and resources alone, he was struck down by the magic spell of his lifelong brother-in-arms at the forefront of war. What surprised Sora however, was the fact that not only was he given a swift death, but he was put further down on the path to reincarnation, Rather than being revived 100 years later where his name would still be very well known, he was revived 1,000 years later in the modern era. His name was still known but there was no chance for him to be recognised or hunted by a vast majority of his enemies. As a plus, he not only kept his knowledge of magic but was reborn into the body of a dead orphan ironically also named Sora. In this life Sora was going to take the path of magic he so neglected till now and make himself one of the greats of history once more, and he planned to do it by breaking all possible records along the way regardless of if he went public with his feats.

Enter Sora King (FP)- The scholar's first awakening

Sora felt like he was floating around as despite him being 'awake' in his subconscious mind, all he could see was an infinite space. Sora calmed himself as he was getting too excited to use magic himself, in this state Sora recognized two things, this was likely where psychic mages thrived when they manipulated the target, and he could feel mass amounts of energy but he couldn't see it. Sora willed the invisible energy he could feel to contort and twist around him like a whirlpool. He continued to gather and condense the energy around him as the energy became visible and started to form a crystalline cocoon around him.

Sora finished his gathering process in a short minute and ended up forming a crystal around himself and began to meditate again, Sora assimilated with the crystal fully and activated it finalizing the creation process of his mana core. What he did not know was that the specific core he made was almost three times the size of the mana core of even the most talented mages. This means that his mana reserves would be three times the normal mage but it would also take 3 times as long to fully recover his mana on the instance he runs out of mana at any given point.

Sora's body changed in tandem with this as his mana veins opened up allowing him to not only absorb but he could now freely cultivate and control mana, all he needed was the practice to become great in it. Sora spread his awareness into the vast space of his subconscious and felt a plethora of many different and interesting auras, but regardless of what he encountered he ignored them and looked for two very specific ones. The first of them was an intense heat, It started as a mild warmth, but it got hotter and hotter The more Sora attached his will to it the more intense the heat got. This wasn't just any ordinary Fire element, Like Narong, Sora got one of the 5 great flames; The Orange flames of the Supreme sun.

Outside of Sora's awareness, the awakening crystal levitated higher above the stand and turned into a micro Sun, the size of a soccer ball. the heat and intensity of the crystal caused some of the tables to begin to melt at a snail's pace, Just as this was happening Takada returned to continue his cultivation just to witness the fanfare that Sora was making.

Back in Sora's soul space, however, he had willed the aura over to himself and fully assimilated it with his magic core, he wasn't done though. Sora spread his awareness once more but wasn't randomly looking around this time since he already knew where the aura he was looking for was located. This time the aura was suppressive, it was a chilling and heavy aura that stifled someone with a feeling of paralysis, This was the aura of the Lightning element, not just any type of lightning though, but purple lightning which was known for the extra destructive and paralytic power it had over just regular lightning. In the real world though the micro sun floating above the stand turned into a deep shade of dark purple and began to shoot off powerful bolts of lightning that instantly melted or disintegrated anything it touched, the aura was so powerful and intimidating that Takada had to release his Magic aura to stop it from spreading outside of his class and garnering unwanted attention, he was considering chewing Sora out but dropped the matter since he seemed to be something special In his own right.

In 10 short minutes, Sora's awakening process was done and the fanfare had died down, the aftermath though, was there for any Tom, Dick, or Harry to see. Desks were fried, chairs had a few legs unbalanced from being melted while a few even had holes in them. Sora's lips twitched as he looked around with a weird expression on his face. "It seems this mortal plane is too fragile and could not handle my greatness", Takada who heard this from outside felt like rushing and drowning Sora to death with insults when he heard the nonsense he was spewing, and it was justified too. Which arrogant Bastard goes out of his way to claim the world around isn't good enough to house their power??

Instead, he utilized the many breathing exercises he knew as an Advanced mage to calm himself down before walking in, he decided that he would watch Sora's progress for now and keep his talent hidden from his peers so that he could cultivate peace, only when he was strong enough would he let the masses know. "How did your awakening go??", Takada asked as though he was just arriving. "I awakened the basic fire element", Sora responded with a partly deflated look on his face as though he had greater expectations of himself. "You can leave, Make sure to practice the meditation manual you were given as you will use it in most of your classes in the future", Takada sent him off with a passive nod. "Smart kid", Takada muttered when he was sure that Sora was out of earshot, he was interested to see how he would develop in a class of talents like this one.

Sora was back in his accommodation apartment sitting cross-legged on the balcony to meditate and cultivate, It was late in the night and he wanted to meditate properly and inspect his soul space properly before attempting to cultivate mana. As he lay within his mana core he inspected the two Elemental cores hovering near him within his soul space, upon closer inspection they were both significantly larger than his mana core, the size difference was comparable to the difference between the moon and the Sun.

They both had multiple layers that remained dull and lifeless, these layers were what he assumed were the elemental spells of each level, the more he leveled up the more he would awaken. That being said he could only attempt to awaken a layer when his mana core was at least the size of that layer. As such with him having a Basic mana core he could only activate the basic spells of both elements being the very smallest layers on the innermost parts of the Elemental cores.

Once Sora had a good enough look he exited his soul space and regained consciousness, once he did, He began to meditate once more. This time though, Sora didn't let himself get dragged into his soul space, but rather he focused on his mana veins and utilised them. He started by letting them expand and contract rhythmically as though he was breathing through them, in truth that wasn't even far off from what he was doing. With each 'breath,' he took with his Mana's veins he absorbed an iota's worth of mana from his environment, being in a magic academy, the quality of mana in the area was very rich but it didn't take away the tediousness of having to gather mana in such minuscule amounts.

Sora didn't mind this though, the reason was he knew something about cultivation that most everyday mages seem to have forgotten for some reason. You can use mana to increase the speed and quality of mana collection from your mana veins when cultivating with mana itself. That was the very first step in true magic cultivation, only once you've fully shed the limits naturally placed on one's mana veins when they are underdeveloped can a mage cultivate at their greatest speed.
