I left her body on the ground and didn’t bother to clean her blood from my hands. Her father’s blood would join it soon. I sent Erik back to the house. I saw in his eyes that he didn’t want this, but there was no choice now. His daughter had started this and he had decided to follow in her footsteps.
We left the house and I set it on fire, destroying everything inside and hoping that he wouldn’t even have a body to bury. The group of warriors that remained looked at me.
“We’re marching on the jungle. The first objective is to retrieve Patara. Everyone else can die.”
I shifted, rolling my neck and taking to the sky. I felt them following me and falling into flight formation as we headed further into the jungle. Before we got too close, I dropped us down to beyond canon range just in case they had bigger artillery and led them through the forest towards the scent of smoke and tigers.
“Look out!”
