Maybe Tomorrow

"Maria, where do those roses in my room come from?" she asked the helper when she went down in the kitchen to find something to eat.

"The gardener gave it a while ago, Miss Dana," she replied.

"Please ask the gardener, thank you," she told Maria as she sat down on the table to eat the sandwich she prepared.

Dana was curious because the roses in her room are individually wrapped in plastic and most of them have blackened petals. They look like the roses that are being sold in the streets, and she doesn't know anyone that would give her those. Bobby is a prankster but she doesn't believe Bobby will buy her such cheap flowers.

Maria came back with the gardener in tow. And he told her that a boy gave those flowers and a box of muffins that was bought by a tall, handsome guy wearing a black leather jacket.

Upon hearing the box of muffin, Dana's heart stopped in her ribcage, she caught her breath and asked the question, "Did the boy say where did he meet the tall, handsome guy?"

"My apologies Miss Dana, I didn't ask. I don't want to accept those flowers and muffins but the boy left it on the gate and ran away before I could interrogate him." he nervously explained.

"Where are the muffins?" She asked.

"I put it in the fridge in your room Miss," Maria answered.

"Okay, that's all thank you," she said dismissing the two.

She crumpled the napkin and dropped it on her plate, then stood up in a hurry to go back to her room.

Dana smiled when she saw the roses on top of the coffee table. She removed the roses from the plastic wrap. It took her a long time since all of the roses are individually wrapped and there are more than a hundred roses. She removed the blackened petals and made a different flower arrangement, and put it all over her room.

She made a moribana and asked the driver to deliver the flowers to Nana. It would arrive in time for dinner, she wished that Grand's grandmother would appreciate the flower arrangement she made.

Speaking of Grand, she's been trying to call his number but all she got was a busy dial tone. Annoyance started to build up in her guts, but she reprimanded herself to chill down. She has no right to be angry with him, though she deserves an explanation of why he just left without saying anything to her.

A bitter smile plays on Dana's lips, she has an idea of the reason why, but she's just being in denial and keeps on giving him the benefit of the doubt, justifying his rude actions.

---

The taxi dropped him off at the corner of the streets because the streets in this neighborhood are quite narrow. He has to walk three corners away from where he got off to reach the house. If he has his bike it would be a different story but he has no time to pick up his bike. He still has to be at his Grandmother's house for dinner.

He arrived at the two-story brick house beside an old laundromat, but instead of pressing the doorbell at the gate, Grand took the stairs going down beside the garage and ended up in a basement with a metal door.

He pressed the four-digit passcode in the keypad on the door of Bobby's secret studio, and it opened with a cracking sound.

Bobby has been using this basement as his secret hideaway from his father since he was in high school, he is the only one that was given with the passcode to this place when they were in college.

When he goes in, he sees Bobby sitting in the middle of the room carving a block of marble, oblivious to his surroundings. He didn't even hear him enter until he deliberately made a sound.

Surprise registered on Bobby's face seeing Grand in his studio. He is the last person he wants to see right now. He sighed, dropped the point chisel and hammer he is holding, and gave his friend a tight smile. As he stood up from the stool he slapped his jeans in a futile attempt to remove the dust covering his pants.

He stretched his back and gestured to Grand to follow him to the middle room.

"I didn't know that you're back to sculpting again," he asked, looking around the studio. It's been a while since he came here. He sat down on the sofa and accepted the beer Bobby handed him.

"I just came back again last week. Uncle asked me to help him with some commission works, he is working for one of his long term clients."

Bobby opened another bottle of beer for himself and asked him, "Why are you here? I thought you'll be in Oslo till next year."

"I'll be back tomorrow," he said, avoiding Bobby's questioning eyes.

Bobby furrowed his eyebrows but didn't say anything.

"Would you like to have dinner with me and Nana?" he asked, changing the topic.

"She didn't go home to the old town?" he asked back, surprised.

"Not this time, she will go during the New year."

"Did you meet Dana?" Bobby suddenly asked.

But Grand anticipating the question, answered, "Yes, but I didn't talk to her."

Bobby looked at Grand's conflicted expression, sighed and dropped the bottle of year, and said, "Let's go eat Nana's food."
