Just Another Day

Me and Amelia were riding our bikes to work. I was enjoying the cool, gentle breeze that blew in my face the faster we went. I looked at Amelia who seemed to be keeping up with me but she forgot to put her hair in a ponytail, so I kinda got this hilarious show of her trying to blow her hair hair out of her face.

"You okay?" I giggled.

"uh, Yeah why wouldnt I be?" I caught Amelia's eye twitch before her face was covered in her hair again.

I laughed as Amelia kept struggling to fix her shiny blonde hair.

I slowed to a stop once we reached the small restaurant. Well I wouldn't call it a restaurant it was more like a cafe. Amelia sighed as she stopped, her hair going in every direction. I laughed at her as I fixed her hair before we went in to get ready for our shift.

"Well your a little late now aren't you?"

Our maneger scolded us. Puzzled, I checked the time on my phone.

"Omg I'm so sorry!" I started go panic hopefully she would let us off easy.

She sighed, "yeah, yeah okay just try not be late again."

"Thank you!" I felt relief wash over me I'm glad she wasnt that strict.

"Alright now go get changed into your uniforms."

She pointed to the back of the cafe where we changed into those brown and white maid like dresses.

"that was close." Amelia sighed.

"yeah I know right we could have been fired."

As we walked back out in our aprons I heard the small bell jingle over the door. I speed walked out of the dressing rooms and grabbed a menu.

"Welcome!" I smiled sweetly. I just hope I didn't look too fake when I smiled.

I set the customer down at the table by the window. Personally that was my favorite place to sit after work. I waited a little as he looked through the menu. It was awkward for me, I wasnt exactly new to this job I had been working here with Amelia for about 4 months now.

"I'll take a mocha."

"Okay thank you I'll be right with you in a little bit."

I took the menu off the table and told Amelia the order. We took turns in our job Amelia started off making the coffee or food customers ordered while I took their order. I'd rather it go the other way around but how we did things was fine I guess. Once Amelia finished she set it down on the small pearl white saucer. I carefully walked it over to the man.

"Thank you."

"No problem." I said I walked back to Amelia we talked for a bit waiting for our next customer.

"So what are you gonna do about Alex?"

I sighed, "I dunno I'll probably take some time off work next week."

"Okay just dont take too much time off for this relationship."

I knew I was at risk of losing my job if I take of too much time but I dont wanna lose this relationship besides I fall in love too quick.

After a long day on our shift I stayed behind to clean to tables and counter. The sun reflecting on the crystal clear windows. Amelia leaves slightly earlier to take care of her younger brother he was only 3 years old. Amelia's mother leaves around the time she gets home after work.

Once I finally finished I could relax. I hopped on my bike and rode to that cliff I stay at until its almost dark. The cool breeze blew in my face, the closer I got to the cliff, the salter the wind smelled.

Once I finally got to the cliff hanging over the the blue ocean, I slowed to a stop. It was mid sunset. The sun looked larger and much bolder than it would in the afternoon. pink, orange, yellow, and blue faded into each other as the sun illuminated the ocean. The ocean reflected the sun and sparkled like glitter.

It was short only about 16 minutes before the sun barely showed over the horizon. The sky was fading into navy blue and almost black. It switched from sun to stars. I started to ride my bike back home I had to be quick before and creeps start showing up.

The way home was dark but the stars and half moon illuminated the way. The black yet elegant street lights lit up the side walks. It was slightly chilly and windy I should have brung a jacket thought.

I slowed to a stop once I reached my house. It looked somewhat like a beach house. It had baby blue sidings and a white roof and accents. I grabbed my bag off the bike handle and walked to the door my footsteps tapping on the pavement as the crickets chirped.

I opened the door and peeked my head in.

"I'm home!" I called out. I looked around then walked in and took my shoes off.

"Oh welcome home sweetie." My mom greeted me. She looked tired.

"Mom don't overwork yourself."

Mom had been working overtime at her work more often. She was usually in the office filing papers and signing paperwork. She sometimes even took nightshifts so sometimes I wouldn't see her till late. I normally spent more time with dad but when we were given the opportunity with mom we would spend as much time as we could with her.

"Hey sweetie!" My dad walked in and pulled me for a hug.

"How was work for ya?"

Dad and mom kind off switched places normally dad would be doing his job while mom does housework. But they decided to switch places. Dad was just as worried about mom as I was but mom's job was complicated.

"It was fine the same as the rest." I shrugged.

Pay day would be on Friday so two more days. I walked up to my room the stairs creaking every step I made. I set my bag down on the corner of my chair. I fell onto my bed and sighed, I was exhausted. Two more days and I'd get a break. I fell asleep to the sound of crickets chirping, my eyes slowly closing.
