Chapter 7

Selena's POV

I looked out of the window. I was feeling a bit sad today. I had just come back from class. Lectures were really demanding but enjoyable. I had had a great experience so far, made a great friend and maintained A grades. I was very happy with my progress. I sniffed in a tear as I thought of my aunt. My aunt's name was Raina and she was my hero she taught me a lot of things, kindness, humility and good nature towards my fellow humans.

Unfortunately no one else in my family really wanted to have anything to do with her. They saw her as an overly outspoken person who contributed in pulling her husband (my uncle ) out of the family's path.

My great grand parents, grandparents and parents have all been lawyers but my uncle wanted to be a professor and Raina gave him the needed courage to pull out of the family path.

My parents were very busy lawyers who barely had enough time for me. I sometimes felt like we were strangers living in the same house answering the same last name. Aunt Raina was my mother figure and I looked up to her. Sadly, one day aunty was on her way home from work when she was crushed by a huge truck. She was put in the icu of the hospital and died after a few days. I was devastated, I felt blank. Uncle Martin tried to be strong for me. He didn't collapse in grief like I did. He was very strong. My family was sad because courtesy demand. None of them really liked her anyway so I wasn't surprised.

Two years later, here I  am in a permed program rebelling once again against the family tradition. When I got my admission letter, dad was furious and promised not to sponsor my education. Thankfully, I had seen that coming and had applied for a scholarship. This was given to native students of the university. I was accepted so I only had to pay for my books and accommodation. I was very happy about my sucess but sad about my family's seeming rejection of me.
