Dreams

I chased the screams down a dark corridor, if only I could reach her in time. But, the hall kept getting longer. It was like I was running endlessly. Never to reach my goal. Her voice echoed in my head as I woke yet again, covered in sweat. I instinctively reached for my sword, only to grab at my tunic. Someone, Somewhere, needed my help. I just couldn't figure out who it was.

My name is Gabriel Knight, Lord of the Night. The title is given to those who served our King honorably. There is four of us Lords in total. Blackstone, Lord of the Sky, Oceania, Lady of the Sea, Thorn, Lord of Flames, and finally me. We were only summoned by our King, yet my nights have become sleepless and filled with fear.

I pulled myself out of bed and left my room, sword in hand. "Who are you to torment me so?" My voice echoed in the stillness of my Castle. If only I could find her, I thought to myself. [I am sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.]

I stopped walking. Her voice was weak and it was in my head. [Oh, sorry, I'm too tired to shield my thoughts from you. Please forgive me My Lord.]

"Nothing to forgive, my lady. Tell me your name. I have a need to know it."

[Thalia, I have no last name, my family died when I was born. They are cruel to torture you through me.] Her name was as beautiful as the night. I turned back to my room, going to my armour stand. [What are you thinking, you can't save me. I was doomed the moment I was born.] Thalia seemed adamant that I abandon her to her fate. "I will not let you suffer anymore. I am Gabriel, Lord of the .Night. They play in my domain. nothing will stop me from freeing you from your cage."

[Please Gabriel, I don't want you to die.]

"Read my mind, it is open only for you. I am beyond powerful, the night is my ally. My title isn't just for show." The softness of her touch in my mind was like a caress on my skin. She read it all, my skills, my swordsmanship, my resolve. [There is no talking you out of this, I see. Very well, I am in a tower, on the edge of your lands, a two days ride south of the gates. don't die.] Her voice faded into the night. I knew where she was, I had ordered it destroyed, yet it seems I was disobeyed. I walked out the front door of my Castle, sword in hand. I lifted my head to the cool breeze washing over my face. I whistled long and deep. A howl answered then a white wolf joined me by the gates. "Phantom, my friend, we hunt tonight." The great white wolf growled. His blue steel eyes flashed in the moonlight.

The night was cool, but it grew unnaturally warm the closer I got to the Tower Thalia was locked away in. What could possibly make the cool air so hot?
