A Bungo Stray Dogs Fanfic, 'cause why not, we need more :)
******************
Making a choice is never easy, especially when so much lies on the line. At one point, everyone would take notice of the chains surrounding them, restraining them, and steering them in one way or another... Be it expectations, fears, traumas, opinions... Every single human has them.
Katherine was one of the few who took notice of that fact from an early age. Having done an unforgivable thing with her ability, the girl made an oath never to rob anyone of their happiness. However, it was proven to be a hard oath to fulfill, especially when fate puts her and her best friend against each other.
**Please be warned, the story will heavily follow the plot of Bungo Stray Dogs, so if you're uncomfortable with themes of torture, death, harm, abuse, and suicide, I ask that you refrain from reading this book.**
Disclaimer: I, by no means, own the plot or characters of the series, they belong to Kafka Asagiri, only my own original characters.

I'm Home, Yokohama
" You're weak, you're a fool... you don't deserve to live like this..."" But I... I just..."" If you're going to throw that ability away, then might as well just stop breathing. In here, only those who wield strength can live, and as long as you can't draw your strength, then there is no meaning in your life."...✦ -─────────- ✦Red eyes fluttered slightly as she felt the airplane dropping. Gazing through the round window, she could see the five towers standing proudly in the middle of the small city and the great abyss at its side filled with an amalgamation of buildings of all kinds." We'll be landing shortly, please fasten your seatbelts," the airline waitress stated through the speaker. The woman tucked away the blond streaks of hair that fell out of their place when she fell asleep and proceeded to secure her belt before looking back at the city. Three years, it had been three years since she last laid eyes on that sight. No words could ever express her excitement for returning.Allowing a smile to manifest on her lips, the young woman laid back her head on the window. " I'm home, Yokohama."✦ -─────────- ✦The scent of coffee filled her nostrils upon hitting the threshold of the shop, it was very familiar and all the same enjoyable. She threw a quick look around, only to find the booths empty and the bar devoided from any customers." Welcome. How can we help you today?" A young waitress in a black and white uniform greeted her with a beaming face." I would like a latte please," the blonde said leaving her suitcase by the door and taking a seat by the bar just as the waitress went to prepare her order. An old man was yet standing there, cleaning glasses using a white rag." Here is your order." With a cup of coffee placed before her, the woman proceeded to drop five cubes of sugar into the liquid." As usual, you haven't grown out of your unhealthy addiction to sugar."The woman merely smiled as she steered her coffee. " And I see you haven't changed location yet, must be hard, running a café in this building. I see you still have a problem with having customers." The woman looked up at the man as she lifted her cup. " It's been a while, Manager."" Three years if I remember. You've grown up fairly during your time away. It's hard to believe you're the same girl who used to sit here and order juice."" You're making me blush," she said sipping her coffee. " More importantly, it must be hard running this shop with all those fools running loose atop."There was a faint rumble, as though something was smashed into a wall. The blonde looked down at her cup as the liquid's surface was disturbed." It may seem so but, those fools are the ones keeping this café going. I'm earning more than enough from them to keep it open, either by orders or compensation." More loud voices, gunshots and shouts, clattering and clangs. The waitress looked up at the lamp swaying above her as if about to fall any moment." Either way, how was your time in London?"The young woman heaved a sigh as she leaned her head on her hand. " Boring."The sound of glass breaking somewhere above them." I mean, I had to focus on my studies and all, but I really wanted to have some more fun like I used to do here."Repetitive thuds could be heard from a nearby alley as though someone was hurling garbage bags through their window." Well, I have to admit that not a single day passes here in Yokohama without some action happening, one could never get bored, even if he's as old as me and is already used to life here."The woman sipped her drink again. " Yeah, no day is like the other here after all." She smiled broadly at that. " It's been a while, so may I have some of your curry, Manager."" With pleasure."✦ -─────────- ✦After paying her bill, the woman grabbed her suitcase, bid her goodbye to the owner, and slipped into the building. " Jeez, don't tell me they actually forgot about me, no one showed up at the airport, not even Kunikida-sensei, that's rather worrying."As she climbed the stairs to the highest floor, she was met with a rather peculiar sight, the door to a certain room was lying flat on the ground with its hinges being torn from the frame. Peeking inside, she could glimpse the sorry state of the office with its walls filled with holes, the decorative plants toppled sideways, and papers and books scattered on the ground." Well, I had a guess it would be this way from all that noise..." She sweatdropped." Tsk, both the schedule and the budget are all messed up thanks to their surprise raid, couldn't they be more organized? Now I have to rearrange my schedule." A familiar voice spoke as Kunikida took out his diary with the word ideals written on its cover. " If I add buying gifts and apologizing to the neighbors, my timetable will be moved one hour. Which means I have..." He trailed when his eyes fell on a certain task and he clicked his tongue. " That's why I hate raids. I forgot to pick her up."" You don't have to worry about that." Kunikida and the rest of the agency members blinked twice as the fallen papers and books floated up and rearranged themselves. The broom Yosano just kicked stood up on its own and started sweeping the broken glass dirt off the ground while the plants were pulled up into their spots.Upon second look, Kunikida could see thin silvery threads weaving through the office and putting everything back into place. He looked to the door only for his eyes to meet the red ones. The woman before him wore a broad confident smile. " I'm back."" Hanazawa, I must offer my deepest apologies," Kunikida stated as he lowered his head in shame. " I shouldn't have forgotten about your plane."" Oh, don't sweat it, Kunikida-sensei. I think I got a pretty good idea what had happened here." She reassured him with a smile." Kath, it's been a while." Yosano walked up to her and engulfed her in a hug before she backed up and began inspecting her. " Are there any injuries for me to heal?"" Nope, sorry to disappoint you but I'm as healthy as you can see."Kath tilted her head past the older woman and looked at a blond boy standing a bit further from them. " Hey, a new face! A new member I presume." She practically hopped along to Kenji." I'm Miyazawa Kenji!" The boy smiled at her so brightly she thought the sun had just risen within the walls of the office. He's so adorable!" It's not only him, we have some new members who joined shortly after you left for England," Kunikida said balancing his glasses. " Though two of them are confined in the infirmary as of now."" Wow! I'm really happy to see more people have joined us. Back at the time, it was rather hard with only the five of us, right, Kunikida-sensei."" We still have a rookie member, but he's out on a case with Rampo-san as of now."" Oh my! I missed Rampo-san! Tch, I really wanted to accompany him for a case as soon as I come."" By the way, you're..." When Kenji spoke, Kath was reminded that she hadn't introduced herself yet." Oh my god, I'm sorry! Katherine Hanazaw, you can call me whatever you like. I'm a member of the Armed Detective Agency but had to leave for a while to study abroad. Looking forward to working with you all."" So you're a Senpai huh? I didn't hear about another member studying abroad." Kenji cocked his head." For real! You never mentioned me guys! I'm hurt!" Kath faked a teary face at Kunikida and Yosano who just ignored her wails." By the way," the silvery threads slithering around them faded away as Kath put her hand back in her vest and turned to the wrecked office. " Who exactly attacked you this time? This is quite the damage I doubt it's some small organization or gang."Kunikida pushed up his glasses. " Port Mafia."" Woah? Port Mafia? Why? We were trying to stay out of each other's territories for years now?" She wore a surprised expression upon hearing who the attacker was." Seems avoiding them won't work from here on," Yosano said slumping down on a chair and leaning back her head. " We've got something they want and they would stop at nothing to get it."" My gosh!"" Sorry, and just when you arrived, this is growing rather tense." Kunikida pinched the bridge of his nose." What are you talking about," Kath's smirk only broadened at that. " I was bored to death back in England, having nothing but college to worry about..."She raised two glimmering red eyes at them. " There is no better welcoming than having some fun with the Port Mafia upon arrival."
