Chapter 2 - Past wounds

"Is that you, Lili?"

She couldn't believe her eyes. This definitely was little Lili from her childhood. She could never forget that orange hair, but he was no longer little.

She took a step back to look at him directly. Her heart skipped a beat as their eyes met.

MATE!

Her inner wolf screamed as her jaw dropped, thoughs now empty as she lost herself in the emeralds that made his eyes.

"Narcia..." He let out in disgust, causing her heart to sting. Did he have to make her name sound like such a displeasure to say.

"Lili... It's been so long, you've changed a lot." She said as her insides tingled, she needed to touch him. She reached out to his arm only for him to flinch back violently.

"I don't go by that anymore, I am not the boy you bullied all your life." He said with venom as his eyes pierced holes through her. She couldn't help but take a step back in shame.

Of course, he'd be mad at her. The one thing she always wanted to avoid was him being close to her. As the furture alpha of her pack, she simply couldn't have a human as her mate.

She remembered the first time she saw the weak little boy that he was, cute and so kind... She had immediately liked him.

-

"Hi there! You're so small, what's your name?" The little girl asked to the smaller boy. The boy sniffled and looked away, seemingly scared.

"I won't hurt you. What's your name?" She asked again, more softly as she looked to the boy that was curled in a ball bellow her.

"Li-Liam..." He said in a small voice that came out almost like a whisper.

"Liam? That's cute, but you're so small and delicate. Like a Lili! I'll call you Lili." She said with a smile as she helped the boy up, his green eyes nearly cutting her breath.

"Whoa! Your eyes, they're so beautiful!" She says as the boy giggled, causing her to smile.

The little girl was eager to have a new friend. She got closer to his ear and whispered a question that would haunt poor Liam for years.

"What pack are you from?"

-

Liam looked down at her with disgust. How dare she use that nickname! She had no right to even speak to him.

"Get out of my way, Narcia. I won't tolerate you like I did in the past." He said angrily, not wanting to feel the weird tingles his body was creating. Perhaps his body had tried to warn him earlier that she would be there. He always did shiver around her. He believed that it was fear before, but he knew now that it wasn't because of fear as he was still shivering near her despite not being afraid.

She moved to the side, a hurt expression on her face. He did not care. She could rot in hell if need be. He wouldn't give her the attention she always seeked. Liam walked past her with a huff as some of the girls giggled, causing him to smirk.

I could get used to this attention.

He thought to himself. He sat down the row closest to the teacher's desk. He needed to make sure he would be able to hear properly and not get distracted by anything.

Narcia sighed as she watched her mate sit at the front. Her heart was aching from the words her spoke. Why should she care? Why did she care, actually? She needed to reject him as soon as she could. She couldn't let the bond get any deeper than it already was, not with a human at least. She walked down the seats, settling herself one row behind Liam. She groaned to herself as she realized where she sat, why was she making everything so difficult to herself. Why did the Goddess decide to give her a human mate? Why torture her? She had tried so hard to make Liam hate her to avoid this kind of situation.

Liam could feel her stare on his back. It was like he was the only person besides her in the room, and he hated it. Why was she like this? Her voice was so soft when she said his name. He shook his head at the thought. He couldn't let himself get carried away.

Soon enough, class began. Liam tried his best to listen to the teacher, but it was in vain. He couldn't shake Narcia's eyes on his back. He turned himself slightly, wanting to pinpoint where exactly she was. His eye twitched when he saw her behind him, a row separating them. The smirk she had on her face told him everything. She had won the battle, she had wanted him to look at her and that's exactly what he had done.

Liam looked forward again, managing to stick with what the teacher was teaching. Classes ended sooner than he thought. He didn't waste a second, grabbing his things and quickly rushing out of the class. Once far enough, Liam sighed as he gripped his chest. He didn't understand why he was so unlucky. How did she get in the same university as him? He had taken the furthest one from his school that was offered.

Before he knew it, Liam bumped into a girl, causing her to drop all her things and fall. Liam quickly caught her, the loud crash of her things echoing through the halls.

"Sorry, I didn't see you there." Liam said with a chuckle.

"O-Oh... That's alright, I wasn't looking where I was going either." She said with a chuckle before she looked around frantically.

Liam frowned at her behavior, looking around confused as she started to pick up her things. Liam bent down and started helping her, smiling as she blushed. He was new to making girls blush, but he liked it.

"I'm Liam, what's your name?" He asked softly, causing the girl to shiver at the sound of his voice. She loved how he sounded.

"I'm Cally, I'm new here... And you?" She said in a high-pitched tone, her voice pretty to Liam's ears.

"I'm new too. Today is my first day, although I did come install myself in the dorms yesterday. " He said as they both got up. He gave her the books he had picked up from the floor and chuckled as she dusted them.

"They need to invest in vacuums clearly." He said in a dramatic tone, causing her to giggle. He loved the sound of it. Before they could continue their conversation, Liam shivered, causing him to frown and look behind himself.

"Is something the matter?" She asked as Liam turned back to her. He didn't know why he had felt like someone was behind him.

"No... Anyway, I have classes to go to. I'll see you around!" He said as he started to run towards his PE class. He needed to let off some steam.

Once arrived, Liam was instructed to head to the changing rooms so that he could get in his gym outfit. It consisted of black shorts with a white tank top, he also had a light jacket on top that was black. He walked into the gym and couldn't help but blush as he saw the girls stretching in their corner. They looked so good, especially where their outfits were... tight. He bit his lip, looking away nervously as he made his way to the stretching area. He never got to see girls up close, Narcia never let them approach him.

At that moment, the door opened with the teacher and a student that seemed to be the last one arriving. Liam was too caught up in his stretch to realise until he shivered. His eyes turned to see who had entered only for his stomach to sink.

"Alright, it seems everyone is here. Let's begin with jogging, get with a partner, and start jogging. Do not get ahead of them or behind. Keep the pace between each other." The teacher said as people started to pair up in delight. Liam was worried since he only knew one person. Which is the exact one who tapped his shoulder.

"Will you jog with me, Lil- Liam." Narcia said softly, receiving a groan in return. It's not like Liam had a lot of options here, but he could surely do better than her.

"No, thank you."

"Liam, please. I know I treated you wrong, but give me a chance."

"A chance to what? Gain my trust like you did in the past and crush me to bits? No! Not again, Narcia, never again. I will never trust you." Liam said with anger, his voice rising a bit and catching the attention of a few students.

Narcia had no comeback. He was right after all. She gained his trust, and when she learned the truth... She destroyed him.

-

"What pack I'm from..?" The small Liam asked back, his brows furrowed as he tried to understand what it meant.

"Yeah! Like... What pack does your family and you belong to." Narcia said in excitement. She wanted to make the boy her friend, but she needed to make sure they weren't from opposing packs.

"Oh... my parents died last year... They didn'ttell me anything about a pack..." He said, causing Narcia to soften. She couldn't imagine a life without her parents. She patted his head softly and smiled at him.

"Maybe we can take you in our pack since you don't have one anymore!" She said, all excited to have the boy join her pack.

The both of them played all day, laughing together, getting to know each other's favorite things. Once the day ended, Narcia tried to speak to her parents about the boy, but they didn't have time to speak. She said goodbye and left. The same thing happened the next day. She knew her parents were very busy people, being the Alpha and Luna of the pack.

Eventually, after a week passed, her young brain forgot all about asking. She continued playing with the small boy. She had grown so fond of him... Until the end of her first year in middle school arrived.

"Mom! Dad! This is the boy I asked to come home! His name is Liam, but I call him Lili. His parents are dead... But he is the sweetest boy ever!" She said as she came down the school's stair entrance, hand in hand with Liam, who smiled behind her. Her parents frowned and sniffed the boy that was before them. They both sighed and pulled her away from the boy.

"Sweety, this boy cannot come to our home." Her mother said softly, gently patting the boy who now was in tears.

"W-why not..?" She said, now tearing up as well. How was she supposed to get him in her pack if he couldn't even come to their house.

"Because he's just a human, dear." Her father said as he crouched down to pick her up.

It was like her world had crumbled, all this time... Liam had lied to her? He was just but a feeble human? He tears rushed down her cheeks as they walked away, a deep betrayal feeling settled in her heart. She would never forgive him for fooling her. She would make his miserable human life a living hell.

And she did exactly that.
