“Take my suggestion, pack yer bags and run for your lives. That house is haunted by the meanest monsters they ever was. They’ll haunt you and yours for all eternity.” The beige door slammed in our face before I could attempt to reassure him once again.

The filmsy window down the hall vibrated from the shock of the loud slam.

“Well, that was a bust.” I grumbled, still stuck staring at the door.

This man with suspect origins was our last hope for getting our plumbing system fixed.

Every plumber in this damn town was either busy or out of town.

The first man we went to in a quaint little place called the downtown district had been charming and eager to work until he heard where our house was located. And then he was nothing but brusque and unwelcoming. Then he had a host of jobs that would keep him too busy for the next five years -or for as long as I lived.
