Chris felt cornered into a trap. “You say you overheard Lieschen speaking to someone confidentially?” Chris whispered. He then quickly turned around and closed the kitchen door, so that nobody else would hear what they were saying.
“Yes, I don’t know who she was talking to, but I happened to pick up enough of what she was saying,” Chris’ mother said in a grave tone.
Chris slumped down onto a chair and ruffled his hair. “You see, I am busy with a project and I want some advice on how to proceed further. So then Lieschen might have overheard me when I was talking to a certain man who knows more about these things,” Chris stated.
“What project is this?” Chris’ mother asked.
“Just something I have been working on for a few weeks now,” Chris lied again.
“Alright, remember that you have to clarify any business decisions with your dad first, before you go ahead with anything important,” Chris mother warned firmly.
