Prologue

"January 1, 2050

What was assumed to be yet another regular New Year's Celebration turned out to mark the beginning of the end.

Numerous cities were razed to the ground, families were separated, and in the first few hours of what would be known as the Eclipse, half of the world's population perished. But how and why you may ask. Of course, it was due to the appearance of variants and demons.

As you may already know the physique of the variants outshined even the strongest human at the time as they ravaged through flesh and bones. On the other hand, the cunning and intelligent demons weaponized mana to transform the sky into a crimson hue by simply burning everything in sight.

However, through all the turmoil and grief, a glimmer of hope was found among the people as individuals began to fight back against the fiendish creatures. They would later be known as the awakened. Developing a supernatural physique and abilities, they were able to minimize damages and saved countless lives in the process.

Granted a period of stability through the efforts and sacrifices of the awakened, governments across the world set aside their differences and banded together to fight against the common enemy and focused on rebuilding, adapting, and planning their next move.

This ultimately lead to the creation of Hope, and the hidden city of Eden, which was designed to nurture children with potential to eventually fight on the front lines. Eden would also become the first-ever neutral ground and also the last line of defense.

It is your job as students of Hope to learn from your teachers and pay attention in their classes, isn't that right Luna."

A girl with pure black hair and eyes shot up from the desk as she looked dazed around the classroom before finally setting her eyes on the middle-aged woman at the front.

"Huh, what do you mean, I was paying attention."

The teacher who had just caught their student daydreaming in the middle of class obviously didn't believe her nonsense and simply said.

"Hmm, is that so, then repeat to me what I had just said."

Luna froze as she looked at her fellow classmates as her eyes pleaded for help not wanting to suffer disciplinary actions again. Indeed, this was, in fact, not her first time not paying attention as to why should she care about stupid history when all of it didn't matter anyway. She would much rather learn how to use her unique ability more effectively or spar with other students.

After a deafening silence of Luna racking her brain trying to think of something to say, the teacher simply went ahead and said.

"Even if you're the top student, you can't be dozing off during class. Even if theory and history is less important than combat ability and potential you should at least make an effort in caring, understood?"

After a long sigh and simply resigning herself to her fate, she mindlessly agreed with the teacher and faced 2 hours of community service around campus.

Although, this isn't about her story, it was about a different young girl with exotic silver hair and amethyst eyes that was eye-catching and at first, attracted everyone's attention and admiration. However, now she was an outcast in the classroom and sat alone at the very back in a dark corner. Though, this is exactly what she wanted in the first place.

The reason is, that she scored dead last in the practical exams and was labeled as defective by her classmates. The only reason she was able to even enter the prestigious academy was due to her unusually high score on the written exam and somewhat controversial answers on the history portion. Simply, she was the only one since the founding of the academy to get a perfect score on an exam that was infamous for its extreme difficulty.

However, aside from that, she was nothing, and in the first place many didn't place, any importance on practical theory and knowledge. After all, what's the point of knowing if you didn't even have the strength to back it up.

Indeed, this is the story of a mysterious and lonely girl named Sylvia, Sylvia Rose.
