Night was almost upon them as the woods was getting darker and the atmosphere getting chilly. It was obvious there was an incoming storm. No one knew when it will start and neither did they care. It would just be a change of weather, it won't stop the war. The war must continue even if they had to fight in the rain. Being a night of a full moon, their strengths and feelings were heightened. There was no holding back, anyone could die. The members of the Black Lotus who had made peace with death fought with everything they've got because they had nothing to lose.
That was the reality for Silas until now. Having his sister worry about him and constantly telling him not to die and come back to her in one peace had changed his thinking. He wanted to give her all she wanted, including him surviving the war. Her happiness was everything to him. His whole life revolved around her. For the first time in years he felt like he had something to lose. But he knew the outcome of the war was out of his hands. There were different ways in which the war could go. Even as strong as he was, he knew his survival wasn't guaranteed. But his little sister's survival was one he must make sure was guaranteed.
His primary objective now was protecting her. He didn't save her just for her to die. His revenge for his clan and parents came second to him. As long as Tessa was safe, he didn't mind the outcome of the war. He had promised to get her back and protect her. He fulfilled the first promise, the second one was now his priority. He had never made a promise which he couldn't keep, so the most important promise won't be the exception. He glanced over at Tessa who was walking next to him. She seemed to be deep in thoughts with a worried look plastered on her face. "What are you worried about?" He asked calmly.
"Vee. Our status from best friends to enemies changed so quickly. She had made an enemy of me and have sworn to cause me pain, as much pain as I've caused her by letting Nate get killed..."
"That is nothing compared to the pain you've been subjected to your whole life" Silas pointed out.
"I know...but she doesn't understand that and doesn't care. She always keeps her promise. Which means I might end up facing and fighting her" She explained.
"If it comes to that, you'll have no choice but to fight her, and you have to win. You're stronger than her, aren't you?" He inquired
"Not really. We've always been equal in strength as Betas. Everytime we fought during training we always ended up in tie. Now that she's sworn to kill me, there will be nothing holding her back. With her not holding back and fighting to kill me, our fight could end in different ways"
"Then you have to fight her without holding back also. This is war, it's kill or be killed. I didn't achieve my goal of getting you back only to watch you get killed. There's nothing honorable about holding back while your opponent is going all out" Silas pointed out as calmly as possible, trying to make her understand the reality of things. "Like you said, your status has changed from friends to enemies. You should treat her as such.. an enemy"
Tessa fell into silence, soaking up all her brother had just said to her. She knew he was right. The little time she had spent with him, getting to know him, he had always been right. "I guess you're right, as usual. But it still doesn't change the fact that we've practically been sisters since we were kids. That feeling doesn't just disappear. But I get what you mean. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there" She sighed.
"Of course"
"Do you know where Freya went to? I'm worried about her. Kieran told me not to worry but I can't help it. Who knows who she might run into, we are in war afterall" She aired her concern.
"Kreed is right, don't worry yourself about her. She's following up with the plan. And Freya isn't weak. She's strong, one of the strongest I know. I doubt anyone she runs into will be able to take her down one on one" Silas explained
"With how dangerous Maynard sees the Black Lotus, I doubt he'd take that chance by sending just one person after each of you. He would want to up his chances of success, not level the playing field. So I wouldn't be surprised if he sends two or more wolves after each one of you, maybe even two Alphas against you guys. Anything to take you guys down" Tessa stated worriedly, thinking about Kieran and if he was safe.
"You might be right, but we can handle ourselves. We haven't...." He immediately paused, sensing the presence of multiple wolves around the woods where they were. He signaled their army to wait.
"What is it?" Tessa asked, looking around.
"We aren't the only ones here" He replied. "Show yourselves!" He said loudly.
Tessa caught on to what he meant as her nose picked up the scent of multiple wolves. She immediately stood guard as they began popping out from where they hid. Some jumping down from trees and others coming out from behind trees. "These people aren't from our pack" Tessa pointed out with a puzzled look. Seeing as she didn't recognize either of them and their eyes were all glowing yellow.
"I think these are wolves from our clan. Probably what was done to Damien was done to them too, hence their glowing eyes" Silas explained. "Take the army and go, I'll hold them off" He instructed
Tessa who had taken a fighting stance and was prepared to fight shifted her eyes to him, her brows furrowed as she tried to make sense of what he just said. "What do you mean hold them off? Fighting them together will be easier and better and will also increase the rate of success"
"We don't have time to waste. Going for the head is all that matters. That is the most important thing. We have to get there same time as Kreed, else the chance of success will shift in their favour. So take the army and lead them on"
"You can't possibly take them all on your own. Like you said they are from Direwolf clan, which means they'll be abnormally strong even if they are Betas. And also there are more than twenty of them. Fighting them alone is a death sentence" She explained worriedly.
Silas turned back toward their army. "Continue on your journey with her, I'll handle them" He ordered and then shifted his gaze back to her. "Don't underestimate me Tessa"
"There's nothing honorable about fighting them alone" She blurted out.
"But there's honor in protecting you and that's what I'm doing" He replied just before the wolves began growling at them, preparing to attack. "Now go!"
The army obeyed his orders and began making their way to their destination. They walked past Tessa, continuing on their journey. Tessa stared at him, conflicted. She was torn between trusting him and leaving or staying and fighting alongside him. She sighed and decided to trust him. "Make sure to come back to me alive and in one piece"
He nodded and watched her join the others. He brought his gaze back to the wolves, his face devoid of emotion. They growled, surrounding him, placing him at their middle. He counted twenty five of them. He hadn't fought twenty five wolves at once and worse, they were from his clan. He didn't know what to expect, he left the outcome blank but was aiming to survive and return to Tessa. He didn't plan to die until he had protected her to the end.
He took off his hood and mask, holding it tightly in his grip. He stared at each of them around and then dropped the mask. As soon as the mask hit the ground, one of the wolves dashed toward him, claws and fangs out. As the first werewolf lunged at him, Silas sidestepped the attack and countered with a swift punch to the creature's midsection. The impact sent the werewolf crashing into a nearby tree.
More werewolves closed in on Silas, their feral snarls filling the night air. Silas focused on his surroundings, using the uneven terrain to his advantage. He leaped off a fallen log, launching himself into a series of acrobatic flips, narrowly avoiding the slashing claws of his adversaries.
The fight intensified as Silas engaged in a deadly dance of dodges and strikes. He utilized his surroundings, grabbing a sturdy branch to parry an incoming attack and then swiftly delivering a powerful kick to a werewolf's chest, sending it sprawling to the forest floor.
The odds seemed overwhelming as more werewolves joined the fray, but Silas remained undeterred. With a combination of speed, agility, and strategic maneuvers, he managed to hold his ground against the relentless onslaught. As he countered two wolves who had simultaneously tried to claw him, he caught both their hands, stopping their claws before it got to his chest. Just then another appeared behind him, aiming to sink his fang in his neck. Silas swiftly made a flip over the wolves he was holding their hands and landed behind them. But he was barely on the ground when another wolf waiting behind kicked him hard, sending him forward.
The wolves he held their hands took the opportunity and wriggled free from his grip and then grabbed his hands instead on both sides. They kicked him simultaneously and then hurled him into the air. As though they had practiced the combo, immediately Silas was sent into the air, two wolves leapt off the ground sending him a powerful kick midair. Silas tried to block with his hands up but with how hard the kick was, it sent him back, crashing against a huge tree.
Landing on one knee on the floor, he grunted from the pain he felt from his chest and then looked up at the wolves. He had managed to take down just two of them. They were abnormally strong as Tessa had predicted, but he expected no less from them seeing as they were from his clan. He was about to stand up when his eyes fell on a fallen branch that could serve as a stake. He picked it and broke it in half, holding both stakes tightly in his hands.
He stood up and his eyes began glowing red. Seeing this, two of the wolves lunged at him, their growls feeling the woods. As they got to where he was, to their surprise their fangs and claws retracted. Taken aback by this, it caused them to momentarily be unfocused. Silas took the opportunity and stabbed one of them with the stake in his right hand and immediately grabbed him and threw him against the tree he had crashed against earlier.
He pulled out the stake from his chest and plunged it into his neck instead. He immediately turned, dodging the other's punch by leaning back. He caught his hand and rammed the other stake through his arm. The wolf cried in pain. Silas swiftly pulled out the stake, cleared the wolf off the floor, sending him to the air and before he could land back down, Silas plunged the stake through his mouth till it came out from the other side. He stared at both of them as they shook, slowly dying.
He immediately pulled out both stakes from their bodies and dashed toward the others. The wolves saw what had happened and decided to attack him simultaneously, not giving him a chance to make a move. But silas was prepared. With his eyes still glowing, he rapidly stared at each one of them, his red eyeballs moving to both sides of his eyes with unsual speed and their claws and fangs retracted one after the other.
Being in front of them, he took advantage of their momentary weakness from the shock of their claws retracting. He threw his right stake to the one in front of him, stabbing his heart. He swiftly dashed past him, pulling out the stake as he did. He made an acrobatic move, jumping over the three in front of him and plunging both his stakes into the neck of two of them midair. On landing on the ground, he pulled out the stakes immediately and dodged the attack of the third and simultaneously stabbing his foot, he stood upright, running the other stake into his neck.
He pulled out both stakes which were now soaked with blood, and began running through them one after the other, using his ability to make them handicap and then dropping them one after the other. He landed a powerful kick on the rib of one after stabbing him, sending him against a fallen tree. He began breaking the arms or legs of anyone he caught before ending their lives by either plunging his stake into their hearts, neck or mouth.
His speed was unmatched, making it harder for them to counter his move. His movement would be like a blur to human eyes. All you could see was bodies dropping one after the other. His robe was Stained with their blood and his stakes now red. Before he knew it, he was standing at the center of their lifeless bodies, breathing heavily and his stakes dripping blood.
He inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly, wiping the blood off his face. Seeing the right side of his robe littered with blood. He unzipped it halfway and then took out his right hand, letting the right side of the robe fall, covering the blood. Partially wearing the robe, he looked around to make sure they were completely dead before continuing on his way toward the direction Tessa followed. He needed to catch up with her again before she runs into a problematic opponent or opponents.
