Bright Academy

School for gifted students is an understatement. Bright Academy was a school on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean. Felix Oppong was one of the over thirty students in the forty square kilometer sized college, for good reason...

FAMILY TIES

My eyes fluttered open and the first thing I saw was Jason, lying down beside me.

I sat up and called him.

He groaned and said with half open eyes,"You're awake."

"Yeah, but, what are you doing on my bed?"I asked.

He sat up and said,"I had to keep you from sleepwalking again."

"Sleepwalking? I never do that."I said.

"Well you did it last night and almost got us killed."He calmly said.

Cody, who had his arm in a fire, said,"I still can't feel my arm."

I looked around to see Junior snoring, as usual.

I looked down and Jason said,"Felix, you're over stressing yourself. That's why you tried to leave school last night."

I looked at him, confused for a while, then understood...I wanted to go to Alex and my mom, but I didn't want to tell them, we were really close, how would it make them feel for me to tell them I preferred my family to them to the extent I wanted to leave campus to go to them, even in my sleep.

He said,"I know it was about your family."

Before I could ask, he said,"Your dream, that's how I knew. You're working too hard to get back to them. I understand you miss them, I miss my family too, yet haven't seen them in ten years."

I gasped.

' Was it really that bad? ' I wondered.

I looked at Cody, whose facial expression plainly said, yes.

I immediately burst into tears and Jason hugged me.

I couldn't focus in class that day.

I just wanted to go home, I wanted to lose my light if that was necessary.

The closest family member to me hated me and I hated him, but I loved my mom and my brother.

The teacher walked to me and said,"Can you answer the question?"

I looked at him, stupefied, with all my classmates, who were at least twice my age, snickering.

"I...I...I..."I stuttered,"I..."

"Shh, say no more. I didn't ask a question, see me after class."She said.

She walked away and I looked down.

After class, she asked,"Felix, what's going on? You're one of my best students, you shouldn't be distracted."

"I miss my family."I blurted out.

"But your father is..."She began.

"Not him, my real family, I want my mom and my brother, that's the only thing I want."I said.

She remained silent, as if deep in thought, then said,"You can't see your family until you have full control of your light."

"But I do, I'm on level 1 yet I'm winning people in level 3, I have invented more skills and sub skills on my own than every H 2 Order before me, isn't that enough?"

She shook her head and said,"I'm sorry, but no."

Tears started to roll down my cheeks again then she stood up and said,"But I'll try my best to make you see them again soon."

"But that's exactly what the principal said and it's been more than a year!"I yelled.

"Just calm down Felix..."She began.

"No! I'm tired of calming down! I'm tired of hiding my emotions! You expect me to stay away from the people I love the most for at least a decade and expect me to calm down?!"I yelled.

By now, she was covering her ears from the Hydro Boom I was using.

I ran out of the window and jumped off then an African fish eagle made of water and ice immediately enveloped me and I flapped hard.

Everyone on the sports field looked at the clear bird that swooped above their heads and when the teachers saw what was happening, they knew they had to take action.

I was gliding over the forest till I saw the beach, just a few kilometers away.

I had a new ray of hope as I got closer, till something pulled me down.

I yelled as the bird fell.

I tried flapping but even the vapour pressure gradient was useless.

I screamed and the moment I landed, a powerful wind ripped the foliage off the vegetation around me.

I saw red and blue as I looked at my dad.

I broke out of the eagle and made it dissipate into several currents of water which shot before me and immediately turned into sharp daggers.

They flew to him but he didn't move.

He stood up straight then a flash of blue came through his eyes then he ran at lightning speed and dodged all the icicles, jumping off the trees, flipping and tumbling in ways I could only dream of doing.

I blasted a jet of water at him but he did a barani flip several meters into the air.

I sensed him with my water vision and blasted wind at him which he easily deflected.

He landed and I felt a powerful force pull me to the ground.

I tried my best to stay standing but it overpowered me and I fell to my knees.

He slowly walked to me then I made a huge jet of water break through the trees behind him but he made it spread when it was right behind him without even twitching.

It started swirling around the both of us and he touched my cheek, with a face devoid of emotion, but I could sense the fear and tenderness emanating from him.

His trench coat swirled in the wind generated by the spherical wall of water as he tapped my neck.

I immediately lost consciousness and the last thing I saw was his handsome face from his arms...
