When he turned to leave, Cole blocked the doorway. “Am I wrong? About the potential for us.”

He was tempted to lie. Encouraging the fantasy of their happy ever after was dangerous at best. Of course, if he did deny it, he’d be the world’s biggest hypocrite, since he’d been hard-pressed to keep his hands and mouth to himself for the past twenty-four hours.

But he didn’t have to indulge that desire now.

“No, you’re not wrong.” He jerked his chin toward the front door. “Let’s go. I don’t want to lose this guy.”

Brady led the way through the abandoned morgue hallways, with Cole right on his heels. Well, he assumed Cole was on his heels. Without looking around to check, it was impossible to tell. Cole was absolutely silent as they moved along. It was a little sobering to think all of Brady’s careful alertness prior to Cole’s reentry to his life had been mostly a waste of time.
