Chapter seven - Boss's unwanted return

Rachael's P.O.V.

I stepped into the elevator, heading to the 40th floor before entering the boss's office. Knocking on the door, I waited for a response.

"Come in," a low voice said as I entered. The boss sat, facing the city through the glass window.

"Here's your Thai tea, sir," I said, smiling.

As he turned, my smile faded. Past memories flooded back, making me nervous and scared.

      "You," I stammered.

"Hello, Rachael. It's nice seeing you again," he said smiling.

"Did you do all this?" I asked, tears threatening to spill.

"If you're talking about the job, then yes," he replied proudly.

"Can your ego get any bigger?" I equipped

"As you can see." He retorted.

"Mr. Sunsedo, I made it clear I didn't  want anything to do with a cheat like you. It's been three years since we broke up, so why now? Why did you come back? I was doing great without you." I said emotions building.

"I couldn't leave you alone even if I wanted to," he answered.

"Then you didn't try harder," I snapped, puzzled by his laughter.

"Why are you laughing? Is anything I said funny?" I questioned

"You, my dear, are funny," he replied, attempting to touch me.

I stepped back, seriously he said, "I couldn't leave you alone. I tried to forget you," he explained.

"Well, Mr. Sunsedo, that would never happen. I no longer have feelings for you. I've moved on, and I expect you to do the same," I asserted, walking out.

"I still love you, Rachael," he confessed, stopping me.

"You're three years late. I hate you, and I'll always continue to," I declared, pulling away. "You may think what you want, but I won't be fooled again. I'm better off without a lying cheat like you," I stated, leaving his office.

"And if you think I'll quit my job because of you, you've got it all wrong."

After leaving his office, I retreated to mine, shutting the door behind me. Collapsing beside the wall, tears streamed down my face. I couldn't fathom his return after all these years, and my mind replayed the painful memories of the awful things he did to me.

Flashback- three years ago

The vibrant city lights flickered as Diego promised an unforgettable evening to me.

"I've planned something special," he whispered, his eyes reflecting a mix of excitement and secrecy. The anticipation hung in the air as he assured me it would be a night to remember.

As I excitedly prepared for the evening, Diego's mind was elsewhere. I was really excited, getting ready for the special night Diego promised. I was really hyped. But, oh boy, did things take a nosedive.

I tried calling him, thinking we were on for a great evening, but no response. As I'm getting ready, thinking of the fun we'll have, Diego is out there cooking up some shady plans with Isabel. A woman who wanted to hurt our relationship.

I was really worried. A growing unease settled with me, unfazed by the promises he had made, I went to his house. The door opened to a dimly lit space, and the distance sounds of laughter led me to the scene I could never have anticipated. Isabel, with a devious glint in her eyes was in bed with Diego. They were naked under the sheets.

My joy turned to disbelief, and the promises and trust I had invested in our relationship shattered before my eyes. The city lights, once a backdrop to our shared dreams, now seamed to mock the fragility of love in the face of deceit.

Diego, caught in his own lies, struggled to explain. The memories of that night would stay with me, shaping my journey to heal over the years.

But the question is, I've I really healed?

what do you think? who else understand what Rachael went through? as the writer, I felt bad for her.
