The man raised his head to meet the gaze of Max, he had a slightly arrogant look in his eyes. "I have given some thought to your request and I am having some difficulty with allowing this. Max... you should know about how much I have done for you already.

Remember when we first met? You were in such a bad place back then and without my help, you would never have been able to reach this stage. Yet here you are, asking for more from me."

The tone of his voice was very condescending like he was considering granting Max a great favor and he never forgot to remind Max of how much he had done for him.

It was like all that he had done for Max had been resolved all because of him and that there were no efforts made by Max to help him repay him.

He was behaving like Max still owed him after Max had already done enough for him and paid him back.

Max met him years ago when he was struggling the most and his family was struggling financially.
