Better than Nothing

Researching the Monolith was a big priority for the researchers aboard Yuki. Dr. Kbom initially sent them to this location because of the high energy levels and activity in the area. Now that they had found the potential reason that could provide a lot of explanation about not just the heightened energy activity in the area, but also about the planet and the lines in general. It was a top priority for them to figure out the purpose behind the monolith.

Although it supposedly did something to Dr. Melange. But no one really could explain what it had done. And Dr. Melange wasn't in any position to provide any answers right now. She was sedated and kept under watch in the med bay.

Dr. Helen finished explaining the recent events to Dr. Kbom and Kita as they were standing in the projection.

"Hmm, This Monolith seems like a super-state of matter right?", Dr. Kbom asked.

"That is Correct. From the initial footage captured by the mechs, the Monolith is in some kind of super state. It's constantly revolving in an axis while also morphing into itself."

"Interesting…. Dr. Helen I need you to go there and personally analyze it. I doubt we'll be able to figure out much. But even some data is better than nothing. But practice caution. If there's even a slight chance of something dangerous. I want you to abort the mission and get back to the shore as fast as possible. You understand that?"

"I understand sir.", Dr. Helen replied.

"Ok, Keep me updated of anything interesting. You know where to reach me.", Dr. Kbom said as he hoped out of the projection. There was only kita standing in the projection.

"How're you honey? Are you okay?", Kita's eyes became softer as he looked at Helen. He heard what had happened to Dr. Melange. He didn't want what ever happened to her also happen to helen.

"I'm fine. A little tired that's all. These long shifts are taking their toll on me.", Helen gave a off handed laugh as she evaded Kita's gaze. There was no way she could tell him that she hadn't slept since coming here. She was too excited with all these new discoveries that she decided to skip sleep. She could get plenty when she got back to the shore. But while they were here, She wanted to maximize her productivity and do everything that needed to be done.

"I know you haven't slept since going there. I can monitor your vitals through your Vac-suit remember?"

"Oh Shit." Dr. Helen had forgotten about this function.

As a Vac-suit was designed to keep the person alive for as long as possible, it naturally monitored everything about the human inside. That included everything from water levels, body temperatures to sleep duration.

Kita being the head researchers after Dr. Kbom, had access to all of these data. He often kept tabs on Helen as he worked inside his lab. Her Vitals showed that she was a little sleep deprived and tiered. Other than that, she was fine.

"Don't worry honey. We're almost done with this planet. We've already finished analyzing everything of importance. Want to know something really interesting?"

"Don't try to evade the topic." Kita was acting like a nagging wife. But he only had her best interest in mind.

"Here this. The energy lines are all part of a network that spans the entier planet. My theory was right. Although the data from the core is a bit fuzzy. But if my conjecture is correct, then all of them meet in the middle. And you know what? The middle point is right beneath the Monolith! The biggest energy line is right beneath that Monolith. We only found it out due to our previous M-Probes scanning their way out.", She started to talk about the energy lines and monolith without giving Kita a chance. She didn't want Kita to worry and she didn't want to talk about her sleep. In order to keep Kita off that topic, She decided to tell him everything about the energy lines in hopes that it'd distract him.

And it worked. The Global energy network had successfully attracted Kita's attention.

"Does that mean that the whole network could be used to provide to power that monolith?"

"That is very plausible. This is the only drain that we found on the network. Although we can't say for sure. I think that this Monolith is some kind of a machine that's doing something that requires a huge amount of powers. The data from the Scanner that Dr. Melange used shows the astounding amount of energy those bigger arteries hold. It's enough to power a whole industrial planet back in the empire!"

"All that energy packed into such a small space sounds really dangerous. I want you to be really careful. Remember, No matter what, Prioritize your safety first.", Kita said with a stern look in his eyes. He was always worried about her wife who loved to get herself into troubling situations. Although more often than not, she managed to get out of it by herself. But it was still worrying. All that energy packed into such a small area is just a recipe for doom. But it seemed stable enough. So Kita didn't worry too much. He had seen the data. Although it was unbelievable. But this new exotic that they had discovered here had the potential to revolutionize the energy industry back in the empire. Just this alone was enough to justify this excursion to the planet. But they still had a bit more way to go before they were done and could leave this system.

"I know, I know. Don't be a nagging wife." Dr. Helen said with a off-handed gesture and smiled at him.

"I'm Serious. Also, be careful of whatever happened to Dr. Melange. Not knowing what happened and what she saw is the most unnerving part.", Kita's tone stern. Making sure Helen knew he meant what he said.

"OK, my dear husband. I will take care of myself. Don't worry. Now, gimme a kiss." She said as she approached his projection. Although it wasn't real. But the experience was real enough.

Soon after they shared a moment. Kita said his goodbye and ended the call.

Dr. Helen got out of the compartment and went to the main compartment. She needed to prepare for the upcoming excursion to the monolith. After this she could get back to the shore and continue to the other planets. She wondered if the other planet's were as exciting as B1.
