I stood up, ready to receive another arrow, but there was none. I began running again, searching for my assailant. I thought of what to look out for. 'A bow, a cross bow, the shine of the metal arrow head, anything.'
I heard the whoosh of a robe. 'THAT WAY!' My direction switched towards the noise. My senses were right, ahead of me, a brown cloaked figure was running away, quiver in hand.
I began running faster, closing in on my target. I couldn't tell if they were a man or a woman, but it didn't matter. I was going to get the truth out of them.
The cloaked figure drew a blade from their hip. 'They're armed with a sword too?' My target turned around, scanning for me. Of course they saw me. They stopped to confront me.
"Look kiddo, I'm just doing what I was told to." They spoke. "If you wanna fight, I'm all for it." They mocked. The assailant revealed them self. A woman, with short white hair.
She charged at me, throwing a long strike downwards. 'I don't have a weapon.' I had come to the untimely realisation that, I had nothing to fight back with.
I jumped back, avoiding the hit. With her blade stuck in the ground, I came back in to attack. I threw out a punch, taking advantage of the situation, but she was smart. She let go of the sword, and avoided me with ease.
"Who sent you?" I asked. Though I was scared shitless, I had to maintain a brave attitude, so I wouldn't be overwhelmed and mocked. I grabbed the sword, I had never held one. It was heavy, and weighted.
"I was sent by the Council. Someone in your village had made a request for a takeout, so they sent me. It's some easy cash, so I won't need to work while I wait for the open to arrive, not that you need to know this anyway, since you'll be dead."
She drew a second sword, and raced towards me. 'Think Ganno, what do you have around you. What can you use to help you.' I closed my eyes. The rustling of fallen, dry leaves below me, the chirping of birds and insects, the swaying trees. 'Absorb whats around you, and use it as your own'
I swept up a cluster of leaves, blinding her vision. "Huh?!" she yelped, confused. I quickly leapt up a tree, moving around to find the best position.
She used her sword to cut through the storm of leaves. "Gotcha!" she threw out a second strike, but I wasn't there to get hurt. "What..?!" her smile dissapeared from her face.
In that moment, I dropped down from behind and landed on her. Then, I stole her sword and threw it away. I brang the blade to the back of her neck. "Move and you're dead." I taunted.
"Okay kid, what do you want?"
I caught her. I actually did it. I don't know where I learned the skills to do it from, but thank god I did. It's amazing, the human body. It has a mind of its own, you could say. Everything was executed to perfection.
"Who sent you, the name of the client." I interrogated. I knew it was confidential information, but if I tried my luck.. maybe.
"I can't say. Seriously, I can't, its private. But they told me something about a devil child, and calamity?" she spoke. Her words seemed to be true. Its not the first time I had heard devil child.
"Oh and, times up." she began to burst out into laughter. "I wasn't even the one who shot at you, both times it was my partner."
"Partner?" I questioned. My grin faded quickly, and I stared down at her. "What do you mean. You're bluffing." My eyes stayed focused on her neck, ready to cut at anytime.
It was coming. Pain. I could feel it coming. From the trees, her partner hopped from branch to branch, with amazing speed and coordination. A menacing laugh came bounding forward. And when it got closer, the feeling became stronger.
A large, white robed male came flying in, and used me to stop himself. He grabbed the back of my shirt and slammed me into the hard bark of a tree. Within an instant, my world went from vibrant and colourful to, dark and monotone. I was blacking out, and right now, that meant death.
"Ganno!" a voice from the forest called. I recognised it instantly. Roma had come for me. And possibly the other villagers. Would the assassins leave or would all of us die here. 'Come on, you can do it. One last stand.'
"Seriously Naiya, you've got caught by a kid?" the other assassin laughed. "I thought you were supposed to be my master, look at your bitch ass now." his mocking didn't end. Something wasn't right about him. The way he spoke was too... urban.
"Shut up Rio, untie me." Naiya ordered. That was her name, Naiya. And she had a partner. Why didn't I think about it. She didn't even have a bow on her, just the arrow sack.
I leapt up ready to fight back. I wasn't going to back down yet. "Man.. sit the fuck down. You really thought you could fight back?" Again, there it was. City talk. I had experienced it alot. Was he another reincarnate? Surely I wasn't the only one.
Rio was strong, and fast.He didn't even give me time to react. He had taken me down so easily.
'Is this where it ends?'
That's the last thing I could think of, as he smacked my face back into the tree
