Does It Hurt

Back in my bed, I found it impossible to fall asleep. Everytime I closed my eyes, all I could see was Hikaru up on that stage bathed in purple neon light and moving their glorious body for the crowd of thirsty patrons. I wondered if they knew that’s what they would be doing, but didn’t tell me because they were afraid I wouldn’t approve. It did seem more legal than working for the pack, and I wanted to be supportive. I knew they hated day labor and felt bad they weren’t bringing in much.

I heard Hikaru let themself in, locking the bolt behind them. I tugged the duvet over my face, not ready to deal with looking them in the eye yet. Their steps were quieter than usual, probably trying to walk softly to avoid waking me up. They didn’t turn on the light, but I could hear them put something heavy on the floor by the bed. I peeked at them from under the covers, nervously.
