“Did he hurt you?”
My head snapped up, and I quickly wiped the tears from my face before I turned to face Gerard. “No, I’m fine.”
“Then why are you crying?”
Gerard’s fists were doubled at his sides when I turned to face him, and a stern look colored his face. “Well? Did he?”
I scoffed and started inside. “What do you care? You haven’t said two words to me since we went jogging. You were my best friend, and now you’re not. Now, if you’ll excuse me—” I tried to walk past him, but he grabbed my shoulders.
“You know why.” He let out a deep breath and looked into my eyes. “Henley, before you decide to be with anyone, make sure they love you. You deserve that, at least.”
“You heard?”
He looked at me as if I had lost my mind. “Hear what?” His head snapped up toward the door and then back at me. “What did he say to you?”
