Bound by Heaven

William Alberty never expected to be anything special. What he expected was to end up withering away in an office cubicle, working his ass off for no reason other than to be able to pay his bills and be able to buy food. But, apparently, some higher deities thought different. Because on the day he managed to get into college, the world went to shit. It was the opposite of an isekai; the monsters and magic came to US, they destroyed everything, and America- along with all the other countries- broke under the pressure. But. William... he persevered. He survived. He adapted. For lack of a better word, he became powerful. And this, this is his story.

Divided We Fall, Unified We Stand (2)

William sat down and thought for a moment.

So... are 132 ants enough to kill Ignus? Are they even powerful enough to get near him and hit him?

William looked over at Emily, who was staring at the ants.

Wait...but I can have control over 300 ants at a time now. And it said I could summon ants as well... but even then, 300 ants might not be enough.

Then he asked,

"Emily, do you have any idea for how we can kill Ignus?"

Emily looked over at William and blinked.

"Uhm... kill who now?"

William pointed at the subway exit and then Emily nodded in realization.

"Oh... that Ignus. Well, maybe. I was thinking about it."

William stared.

"Okay, what's the plan then?"

Emily replied with a grin,

"Ignus is just a fiery chicken. And ants love to cover their food with their bodies."

After Emily had explained the plan to William and he finally made sense of it, they put the idea in action.

"Imperial Ants! Attack Ignus!"

William pointed at the exit while staring at the ants, and he barely even processed what was going on when the ants surged forwards again.

But not just 132 ants- 300 of them.

William looked at Emily.

"You sure about this? If the ants can't do their job, you'll be facing a freakin dragon."

Emily raised a finger.

"Wyvern, excuse you. He doesn't have four legs."

William rolled his eyes.

"It doesn't matter. Are you up for it or not?"

Emily grinned as she unsheathed her iron sword.

"Who came up with the plan in the first place? And Swordsmanship, Imperial Strength."

Immediately, a faint grey glow and a red aura surrounded Emily, signaling that her abilities had activated.

"Wish me luck!"

Sword in hand, Emily began happily hopping over to where all the ants had gone like she was simply going to a party and not to kill a dragon. Wyvern; whatever it was called.

Of course, William couldn't resist the urge, so he also ran after Emily.

When they reached the stairs, the steps were coated in solidified lava. The liquid flames must've froze while William and Emily were waiting in the subway.

The sounds of ants screeching and Ignus' tell-tale roar rocked the whole area, and the duo had to cover their eyes due to the light as they walked back outside for the first time in... maybe three or four hours?

When their vision finally adjusted, Emily pumped a fist in glee.

"See? I told you it would work!"

William looked around the destroyed and abandoned street for barely a moment before his gaze locked onto Ignus- who was covered from head to toe in Imperial Ants, pushed against a building, and was struggling to even move.

William remembered reading somewhere that ants could hold something 5,000 times their weight easily... and these Imperial Ants were the size of dogs.

He then patted Emily on the back.

"Good luck."

Emily smiled, nodded, and then ran towards Ignus, her sword shining in the light of the sun.

William yelled,

"Imperial Ants! Hold Ignus down!"

The ants seemed to form a net with their bodies over Ignus, further immobilizing the boss monster. Ignus let out a roar of rage, but then William saw Emily leap up...

And stab her iron sword straight through Ignus' skull with a sickening crunch.

The Lesser Fire Dragon let out a single breath, and then the previous glow surrounding it ceased, it's eyes dimmed, it stopped moving; stopped breathing.

William had ordered his ants to get off the Lesser Fire Dragon's body, and the terrifying monster didn't look any less scarier dead.

Then, a bright orange-y red sphere rolled out of Ignus' mouth.

It only took a single glance from both Emily and William, and the item bio appeared.

[ITEM NAME: Flame Wrath]

[ITEM TYPE: Skill Sphere]

[ITEM GRADE: Absolute Power Artifact]

[ITEM RARITY: (HIDDEN)]

[ITEM BIO:

[The source of Ignus's Flame Wrath ability, this skill sphere is particularly powerful. Flame Wrath is an AOE (Area Of Effect) skill, meaning it does damage in a certain area around the user. Flame Wrath is powerful enough to instant kill low level monsters and most medium levels, but high levels and Boss monsters won't immediately die. However, they will take great amounts of damage. This ability has a cooldown of 20 minutes and no mana cost.]

William and Emily looked at each other.

"You should take it."

Both of them said at the same time, before they stared at each other.

Emily started to say something about 'why you should have it' when William lobbed the glowing ball straight at her, and the sphere disappeared inside her body.

Emily rolled her eyes.

"Oh, okay, knight in shining armor. What are you doing, taking pity on me-"

That was when the ground started shaking.
