A Planned Escape

Pei Xin had only been trying to persuade Ling Jin not to be rash, but now she realized that she had neglected Annie. She quickly wiped the tears off her face and smiled at Annie.

"Officer Annie."

She didn't want to answer Annie's question but was open with her thoughts. She always had an indescribably good impression and trust towards this female police officer. "I'm sure you know how much we've offended the Lu family. They don't want us to leave. There is nowhere we can go without being detected."

"What if I can help you escape to another place?" Annie asked.

Ling Jin and Pei Xin did not understand what she was implying. They just stood there and looked at her without saying a word.

"I can help you go to other cities. Do you know about the An family in Haicheng?"Annie asked Pei Xin seriously.

Pei Xin was once the daughter of a rich family, so she has heard of this name before.

They only knew that their status was similar to the Lu family. Their businesses are spread all over the country. They even had unknown influence in the capital.

One had to know that the various families in Beijing only saw benefits as tightly tied together. They were very xenophobic. For the An family to be able to do this was enough to show their strength.

Pei Xin looked at Annie and nodded. At this moment, she remembered that Annie's surname was An and she didn't have much respect or fear for the Lu family the last time they interacted.

"Are you from the An family?" Pei Xin's voice was filled with disbelief. She could not imagine how the daughter of the An family could become a police officer in Beijing's Public Security Bureau.

Annie nodded. She understood Pei Xin's confusion, but she didn't intend to explain.

"I can send you to Haicheng and have my people arrange everything for you. Do you trust me?"

Originally, Annie had helped Pei Xin because it was her duty as an officer and she sympathized with Pei Xin. However, this situation was more out of compassion. Pei Xin had grown to become a friend of hers.

Pei Xin and Ling Jin looked at each other, then looked at Annie. "Why are you willing to help me? Aren't you worried about offending the Lu family?"

Pei Xin knew that the Lu family would not openly fall out with the An family. After all, these two giant corporations had a lot of cooperative ties. The reason for Annie living in Beijing must be a secret not known to many.

Perhaps the An family did not know about this, so it would not be difficult for the Lu family to target Annie being in Beijing without anyone knowing.

Annie wasn't as serious as before, and her tone became a little lighter.

"But that might implicate you." Pei Xin would be lying if she said she wasn't moved. If she could really escape to a place where no one knew her and start all over with Ling Jin and Ling Lin by her side, it would be a blessing from the heavens. However, she couldn't drag others into this.

"Since you've guessed who I am, you should know that the Lu family wouldn't dare do a thing to me. Moreover, I have a grudge against them. If you weren't here, I would have offended them sooner or later."

After hearing Annie's words, Pei Xin lowered her head and thought for a while before nodding. "I… I'll do it."

Annie's suggestion was too tempting for her to resist, and she couldn't think of a reason to reject it.

"Alright, but you'll have to be patient. I'll need to make some calls and then send someone to secretly pick you up and send you to Haicheng."

"Just trust me."

"Officer Annie!" Ling Jin, who had been silent all this while, suddenly spoke.

Ling Jin heaved a sigh of relief. As long as his mother was fine, then leaving was their best option. Otherwise, who knew how many more times Ling Lin would have to suffer?

After Annie left, Pei Xin started to look forward to the new life that she could start soon. After seeing Ling Lin's face, she started doubting her decisions. If she left, Ling Lin would probably never see his father again.
