Siege of hell school (part 5)

Rat watches Riley write in his notebook as the pair sit on the blue truck. He still is in awe having seen Riley kill all the zombies in the building and drag them into an open room to be counted. He had killed 30 zombies while no more than 3 wound up next to each other at any time he nonetheless had done it. "Well I have some alterations to make and work to do we will need a fuck load of arrows for the coming rescue mission." Riley says standing up and walking back to Crystal Lake. "What did the world do to you?" Rat asks not realizing he had spoken aloud. Riley looks at the blushing boy. "It tried to kill the good in me i'm just finishing the job." Riley says. Once back in the garage Riley puts a finer point on all the arrows he had already made and begins making more. After 3 hours of work Riley has around a 100 arrows and decides to go wake Jessica up to add more hands to the work. Standing in front of the room they let her use Riley hears her moaning and crying. Walking in the room Riley pats her shoulder and she wakes up screaming and slapping him. Wrapping his arms around her to restrain her Riley rocks back and forth. "Shhh shhh it's okay it was just a dream your okay its okay." Riley whispers into the frightened girl's hair. Tank bursts in as she calms. "What's going on?" He asks in a very serious tone. "Nightmare." Riley says, still rocking back and forth. Tank nods in understanding. Nightmares were something the boys were all very familiar with in the old and new world. Once the girl had calmed down Riley let her go and stood up. "Eat and bring 2 gallons of water to the garage." Riley returns to the garage and Jessica goes to the kitchen to eat. "What is Riley like?" Jessica asks Tank and Slim. The 2 look at each other. "You've met him." Tank says. "I don't think I have really, what is he like?" She asks. Tank rubs the back of his neck. "He is a guy that gets shit done if we tell Riley to do something it will get done, Riley is the guy that walks into hell and wrings the devil's neck, Riley is the guy that doesn't die and will be the last man standing we are just lucky enough to be part of his story." Tank nods satisfied with his response. "Riley is king of the apocalypse." Slim adds in a rare moment of speech. The boys look at one another and nod. "You guys sure have a lot of faith in him." Jessica says. "No not faith, faith is when you believe in something Riley proves it constantly when it comes to that guy it just is, it's a fact." Tank says. "Riley has something we don't." Jason says, startling the others. "What is that?" Jessica asks. "We had to become monsters to survive. He always was one, now he just refines it." Jason says opening a M.R.E Jessica grabs 2 gallons of water. "My advice miss King simply tell Riley to save your friends then consider them saved and wait for the details to fall in place." Jason says to Jessica as she enters the garage. Riley is setting pvc pipes on a work table. "I'll show you the first time then you will do it." Riley says as he lines up all the many fiberglass rods he had gathered. "What are we making?" Jessica asks nervously. "Bows and arrows." Riley says making cuts on the rods. Once he is done he turns to Jessica. "You need three rods per pvc pipe you arrange them in lowering lengths and tape them exactly in the middle like this." As Riley explains he does as he had said. "Once the rods are taped, put them carefully in your pvc pipe." Riley gently wiggles the bundle into the pipe and shows Jessica. "I already had the notch cut for the string on this pipe but the idea is draw a frowny face on both ends perfectly mirrored and gently cut a little out of the mark making sure not to cut all the way through also make sure there are absolutely no sharp edges on this part." Riley says handing the partially constructed bow to her so she could examine it. "I have also written this process down in that notebook over there so check it if you get stuck." Riley says, pointing to a black notebook on an empty table. Taking the partial bow back Riley sets it down on the table and unravels a long string of para cord. "Now hold this against the bow and cut it about four inches below the end." Riley says as he cuts and then slowly ties a knot on both ends for her to see. Then he shows her how to string the new bow. Grabbing an arrow from the can of arrows Riley launches the deadly DIY projectile into a box with a wack. "How do you know how to do this?" Jessica asks. "Youtube." Riley says sliding her and the chair she sat in over to the table. "Your turn, take your time." Riley says before grabbing wooden dowels and begins making more arrows. "Why did you look that up?" Jessica asks, arranging the rods as she was shown and measuring to find the center. "I wanted to kill someone but never got around to it." Riley says over the sound of grinding. "Who was it?" Jessica asks nervously. "We aren't close enough for me to tell you and it doesn't matter anymore anyways." Riley says starting another arrow. "How many bows am I making?" Jessica asks to change the subject. "Keep building until you run out of material. Any more questions?" Riley sarcastically asks. "What is the water for? Are you going to shoot it?" Jessica asks. "No, it's for drinking. The more we use the grinders the hotter it will get and the thirstier so I had you bring water so we didn't need to stop as often like I said, a lot of work to do and not much time." Riley says starting another arrow. As they work Jessica bounces what Tank had said around her head. After 4 hours Jessica has used up all the materials for the bow making save for the para cord. " The dowels are already a good length so all you need to do is drill a hole in one end up to the tape on the bit like this." Riley says, showing Jessica as he explains. "Then take the nine inch nails and cut them with the grinder like this." Riley shows the girl and takes her over to the bench grinder. "Carefully grind one side to a small rod that snugly fits in the hole you drilled in the dowel, add some gorilla glue or epoxy and glue the metal in." Riley works slowly showing as he explains. "Then grind it to a point now you do it." Riley says a few minutes later Jessica holds a mostly completed arrow. "Put a notch line in the other end and half an inch up, put two pieces of duct tape on either side then cut it to better resemble arrow fletching and Bob's your uncle you have an arrow." Riley says watching the girl work. Once he is certain she has it down Riley grabs a bow and a couple handfuls of arrows. "Keep working until you run out of material." Riley says. "Where are you going?" Jessica asks not pausing in her work. "Full of questions aren't you? I'm going to practice with this and send Alex in to help you. I want this done before either of you go to sleep." Riley says. "Riley." Jessica says hesitantly. "What?" He asks at the door. "Save them please." Jessica says, deciding to take Tank's advice. "I will just give me the arrows I need." Riley says as he leaves. In one of the upstairs rooms Alex had converted it into a chem lab and was hard at work making molotov cocktails and pipe bombs. "Knock knock." Riley says tapping the door frame making the boy jump. "What's up Riley?" Alex asks, capping another pipe bomb. "I need you to go to the garage and help Jessica for a bit." Riley says. Alex sits back and stretches. "I thought you were doing that." Alex says, complaining. "And now you are, I have other things I need to get done but that work still needs done too." Riley says, staring the boy down. With a sigh Alex stands up. "Thanks Alex." Riley says heading down stairs. Riley heads outside and pauses by Slim who is getting ready to walk along the wall. "Slim, go help Alex and Jessica. That job is more important now, tell Tank to watch the wall." Slim nods and heads back towards the house as Riley leaves out the gate. Waiting for a few minutes Riley sees Rat coming over. "What you up to Ri?" Rat asks. "Do you know where a group of zombies might have gathered? I need some bow practice?" Riley asks. Rat scratches his chin. "I was actually about to come tell you about a group of a dozen or so zombies over that way." Rat says pointing the way he had come from. "Perfect thanks Rat." Riley says starting off that way. Rat considers going after him but decides against it. Riley walks quietly until he sees the shambling group of zombies sluggishly walking away from him. Drawing an arrow and raising it Riley releases. Thwack. The arrow buries itself in a zombies skull. "Doesn't count." Riley mumbles launching another arrow that finds itself buried in another skull. As this zombie falls the others turn and notice Riley. They begin marching forward. "Maybe I do know how to shoot a bow." Riley says sending another arrow into a zombies head. Walking backwards to maintain distance Riley fires another arrow and misses the mark hitting a zombie in the shoulder. Riley stops moving and fires again killing the zombie he had injured. "Okay so I can't shoot while moving." Riley mumbles. Another arrow and another dead zombie. "4 dead fucks." Riley says as he loads up another arrow and sends another zombie to the big graveyard in the sky. Reaching back Riley grabs his last arrow and launches it. The arrow hits soft rotten skull and slides through hitting a zombie directly behind it killing them. As it falls the arrow snaps from the weight. "Lost an arrow and it wasn't deliberate but come on, that was fucking cool right guys?" Riley asks the remaining 4 zombies. "Oh well 6 dead fucks." Riley says as he draws his knives and moves forward to finish them.
