Humiliated

Skye woke up exhausted the next day, she was left to face the reality of her life and newfound routine, covering up her scars with makeup. She was skilled at it, but no amount of makeup could hide the sadness on her face, her skills did not extend to such lengths.

It was a Saturday morning but she woke up quite late and had just a limited amount of time to prepare herself for the brunch she had planned with her friends.

She wasn't up for the task of going out, especially after the experience she had the previous night, but being the girlfriend of a control freak, she barely had enough time for herself so she had to utilize whatever moment she could get.

At that moment, her phone rang loudly, filling in the void of silence in the room.

"Skye, I just wanted to inform you that we changed the location last minute and we'll all meet up at Cleemer's coffee shop instead." Her friend said.

Skye only gave out an "Okay" before hanging up the call, she was in no mood to talk much.

Bracing herself, she took a quick shower and put on the simplest clothes she could find; jean trousers and a white plain T-shirt, a decision she would later come to regret.

They all met up at the coffee shop an hour later and seeing her friends made Skye loosen up a bit and release some tension.

Just as they were heading to their table, Skye heard a familiar voice but the moment she turned back to see who it was, her face turned as white as paper.

It was Theo, his hands were wrapped around the waist of a woman by his side as he stared at her delicately before making an announcement.

"Since we're all gathered here today, I would like to announce to you all that Kayla and I have decided to make things official ."

Everyone at the table began to cheer and clap for the couple as Theo kissed his new beloved but not Skye, her heart had stopped beating for a moment as confusion filled her being.

Steeling herself, she fought back tears and walked up to Theo, ready to confront him.

"Theo, what's going on here? Tell me what I heard isn't true."

All heads turned in her direction as she spoke, they were all wondering who she was and what she wanted with Theo but that was expected, after all, they never went public with their relationship so it was only natural that none of them knew her.

"Skye, what are you doing here?" Theo yelled but this time, Skye would not back down in fear, she had decided to stand up for herself even if it was just once.

"Answer my question, Theo, how could you do this to me? how could you cheat on me?" Her voice quivered as she spoke.

"Cheat on you? You're not even up to half my standards-"

"Wha-"

"Look at yourself, how could I ever date someone like you, that's an insult to my name, especially since you look like a maid."

Everyone erupted into a fit of laughter after Theo's words and that made Skye self-conscious, she looked down at herself, her choice of clothes that day wasn't the best option.

While the lady by Theo's side was wearing a fitted black dress that hugged her body, exposing her curves and cleavage, Skye was dressed in the plainest of clothes and worn-out sneakers.

At that moment, she looked like some homeless girl and not someone Theo would date even with his eyes closed.

"You can't do this to me, you can't-"

"I can and I will." He thundered before smirking maliciously at her, "You're just an orphaned girl I decided to help so don't misunderstand the situation, Skye."

"That's not-"

"That's exactly what it is, without me, you're nothing Skye so don't think we're together just because I put food on your table. I could never date a person like you." He looked at her with disgust as he spoke.

Skye was shocked, she didn't expect him to tell everyone that he was her provider like that, and she was utterly humiliated.

"One more thing, I want you out of my house tonight, I can't have you staying with me and spreading false rumors everywhere." Saying that Theo walked away, not ready to hear anything else from Skye.

"False rumors? False rumors?-I gave you everything Theo; my heart, my time, my body, and this is how you repay me?" The tears had already started falling down her face while her body shook with anger.

Just as she was about to utter another word, a hand landed on her face leaving her with an uncontrollable ringing in her ear. Skye looked up to find Theo's new woman smirking in front of her, she had slapped her and by the look on her face, she was satisfied with the outcome.

"Keep quiet you ungrateful bitch!" Kayla yelled. "Leave me and my man alone, got that. Theo wants nothing to do with filth like you so do us all a favor and get lost."

Skye burned with humiliation, her makeup was smudged, she got dumped by her boyfriend who publically denied her for another woman, and rubbing salt to the wound, she was slapped and insulted by the woman Theo left her for.

Everyone at the coffee shop looked in her direction, some taking pictures, others were laughing and some looked at her with pity. 

"What a homewrecker!.." 

That's what most of them said about her without understanding the situation, even her friends looked at her accusingly.

Theo had won, he successfully turned everyone against her.

Not being able to take the shame and having nothing else to say in her defense, she ran out of there without saying anything more but with her vision being blurred by tears, she didn't see the waiter ahead of her, not until they bumped into each other causing glasses to shatter everywhere.

As if her day wasn't bad enough, Skye had to face another embarrassment. This time she just gave up, sitting on the floor with her head hanging low, Skye slowly wept her way through the pain.

Not even her friends wanted to be seen with her at that moment and once again she was left alone.

In the moment of her sadness, she suddenly felt a strong pair of arms sweep her off her feet, carrying her away from the mess she created.

She turned her head to look at the man who carried her and was stunned to find Theo's boss, the man she met the previous night.

"Wha-what are you doing here?" She said, her voice coming out as only a whisper.

"Let's get you to safety first, then we'll talk." The man calmly said.

Skye was too tired to protest so she simply shut her eyes and let the tears flow down her face.

Flashbacks of everything she had been through in the hands of Theo ran through her mind.

He was like a savior to her, she looked up to him, admired him, and loved him but the fact that she felt she owed him and his family her life for taking her in, made the decision to leave him even harder.

She depended on him for everything and swallowed all the abuses from him with the hopes that he would change but being rejected by him publically in such a way shattered her and broke her inner spirit.

She no longer had any will to live or a drive to push her further, she was like an empty vessel at that point.

"Stay with me..." Those were the last words she had before finally letting the darkness consume her completely.
