"Jack, I'm done with you!"
"What, you're saying I've got someone on the side?"
"Which of your eyes see that I've got someone on the side?"
"How did I ever become so blind as to fancy you all those years ago? With so many people after me, I didn't even grace them with a glance, just wanted to settle down with you, but this is how you treat me! Are you worthy of all I've given up for you?"
"I want a divorce, you bastard!"
Far away, one could hear the voice of Diana, the shrew. This woman kept repeating 'I'm done' with jubilance.
"No, that's not right!"
The boss furrowed his brow.
Even though he initially thought it was the sound of a couple fighting upon hearing Diana's voice, he quickly detected something amiss.
"Boss, what's not right? Isn't this the sound of an argument? What does it have to do with us?" the fourth brother questioned, frowning.
Their target was Diana; what did this have to do with them?
With a somber voice, the boss said, "The direction's wrong; the sound is coming from the alley, not a house. Voices coming from a house wouldn't carry this far. Besides, I refuse to believe that this couple didn't hear the gunfire; even if they did, to make such a racket doesn't fit with the cowardly nature of people from the beautiful country."
"Is that woman playing tricks on us?" responded the fourth brother, also catching on, his voice dark with annoyance.
"Kill that woman!" the boss said through gritted teeth.
Did that woman dare to play them?
They were truly ruthless.
Despite the time dragged on, they would not give up on killing Diana.
And Diana had succeeded.
She successfully delayed the boss and the fourth brother for a moment, a moment they spent pondering. Without that time to think, the boss and the fourth brother would have already found Diana, and upon finding her, would have shot her without hesitation.
Diana, hidden in a corner, stopped making a fuss like a shrew.
Continuing to shout would only pinpoint her location more precisely.
One shout was to confuse.
Two shouts were to delay.
Three shouts, that would be foolish.
In times of danger, one could truly see a woman's wisdom, and Diana was such a woman.
The boss and the fourth brother were hurrying; they were in a real rush, having dragged on for so long without killing Diana. Losing contact with the second and third brother stirred a ripple in his normally still heart. He was now anxious to kill Diana immediately.
That was their mission.
Completing it would land them on the beautiful country's list of hitmen.
Even if only at the bottom of that list, it was a position he ardently desired. For a hitman, life and days can be monotonous!
Glory might be the only thing they strive for, and killing was their glory and struggle. Thus, no hitman would want to miss out on that sacred list.
Once on that list, glory and much bigger tasks that were previously unattainable would come their way!
Taking a few seconds, they saw through Diana's ruse.
They now knew her location.
Step by step, quickly.
Finally, they appeared at the entrance of the alley with their handguns, finding only Diana. They smiled broadly, joyfully.
Clearly, her bodyguard was gone.
Did he perish alongside the second and third?
If so, that was also an acceptable outcome.
At least, it meant the second and third died with purpose!
They were like that, devoid of any sympathy for the fallen comrades!
Diana faced the arrival of the boss and the fourth brother with even breaths, holding her high heels in her hands, ready to defend herself if necessary. Though she knew the high heels might not be of much use against them, having them in her hands was far better than being completely defenseless.
"Looks like your bodyguard is dead, so now it's your turn," the boss said with the gun in his hand, his finger nearing the trigger.
They would not hesitate.
Nor would they waste time like those in TV shows! In TV shows, the assassins would chatter endlessly with their victim, discussing life ambitions and future goals. In the end, when it came to nothing, they found out their views were incompatible. The villain would be determined to kill to satisfy personal vendettas.
And just then, the champion of justice would appear and defeat the villain. That assassin must be a fool.
To kill is to kill, why all the nonsense, waiting for reinforcements to arrive just to meet one's own demise?
But of course, this wasn't television.
They simply said a word and then would shoot to kill!
The boss's finger was inches from the trigger.
Diana, the woman, also had sweat dripping from her forehead. She appeared breathless, enticing to the bone, her large eyes fixed on the gun in the boss's hand.
"Bang!"
A gunshot sounded.
Diana wasn't dead.
The shot didn't come from the boss.
It was another gunshot.
Following that gunshot, the boss instinctively jerked, the gun suddenly swiveled in another direction.
But he didn't see anyone come into view!
The shooter was Jack.
Jack didn't actually make it there; he just fired a shot after hearing the noise. His aim was terrible; even if he had a gun, he couldn't hit anyone. Moreover, he disliked using guns and pointing them at people. This time, he fired just to divert the attention of the boss and his associate away from his target.
Regardless of whether he hit or missed.
The boss and his companion would instinctively stop.
And immediately turn to face the direction of the gunfire.
This way, Diana would be saved.
Diana knew Jack had come, and she knew she was temporarily safe.
"Kill that woman now!"
The boss gritted his teeth.
And just then.
Bang bang bang!
Three consecutive shots.
"Beep beep beep beep!"
That was the sound of a police car.
"Not good!" The boss, hearing the sound of the police car, internally screamed.
"Let's go!"
Hearing this sound, the boss and his companion didn't bother with Diana any longer and turned to run. They knew that with the bodyguard around, today was not the day they could kill Diana. And with the police arriving, they couldn't afford to delay, as not only would they fail to kill Diana, but they might also lose their lives.
Their only option was to flee.
Bang!
The two of them darted into the dark alleys of the night, disappearing from sight.
They even left behind the black BMW they came in.
Diana, seeing the two leave, patted her ample chest and exhaled slowly.
That was truly dangerous.
Another shadow appeared.
It was Jack.
Jack dropped from the wall, seeing Diana safe and sound, he heaved a sigh of relief.
"Are you okay?" Jack took a deep breath and asked.
Diana, patting her chest, said: "I was scared to death. I thought I was a goner today."
Jack couldn't help but offer a rueful smile.
What was this woman thinking?
"Ah!" Diana exclaimed upon seeing Jack: "Jack, you're okay!"
"Me?" Jack looked at this woman, wondering if she was feverish or something, caring for him rather than herself?
"Let me check if you're alright!" Diana laughed coyly, her smile bewitching and captivating, truly a sight to behold. She reached out towards Jack's lower body.
Jack, startled, quickly stepped back.
"What are you doing?"
At least, seeing this woman's smile, he knew she was alright.
In times of danger, one often sees a woman's wisdom.
And this woman's wisdom was certainly extraordinary.
Maintaining composure at such a critical moment is not something ordinary.
Truly an extraordinary woman.
Jack was puzzled; what kind of women had he been encountering?
A robot, a siren.
"I almost thought I was a goner just now. To celebrate my narrow escape, I've decided, I want to kiss you," Diana's voice was sweet, melting to the core as if nothing had happened a moment ago. Jack was at a loss whether to laugh or cry.
"Go ahead and kiss," Jack said.
"In your dreams!" Diana rolled her eyes at Jack and shouted: "You heartless man, coming back from mahjong so late tonight. You still have the nerve to let me kiss you. How could you say that? I'm telling you, I'm done with you."
He remembered what this woman had said at the beginning.
This woman.
Even made up a story with him in it.
Making him out to be a heartbreaker.
Jack heaved a sigh of relief, leaning against the wall.
Diana was fine, and so was he; that was the best outcome.
Perhaps Diana was a bit tired, her silky stockinged feet cooled on the ground, her body slumped against the wall, saying, "Give you a chance, help me with my shoes!"
"Why don't you wear them yourself?"
"While you wear shoes, you can see a woman's panties. So, are you sure you don't want to reconsider?" Diana's eyes shimmered with a tender tease, her words sweet, sending shivers down Jack's spine.
Jack felt he had developed a strong immunity to this woman.
He thought that having looked at this woman many times already, nothing would affect him.
But he realized he was wrong.
Just a single sentence from her stirred his desire, making it hard to resist.
"Wear them yourself!" Jack said.
"Wearing them myself, then!" Diana rubbed her hair and slid her feet into her high heels.
"Police!"
"Who are you!"
Just then, two policemen appeared at the entrance of the alley, guns in hand, facing Diana and Jack with a wary expression.
"Get lost!"
At that moment, a middle-aged man emerged from the police car, his face stern, eyebrows tightly furrowed. As he entered the alley, he pushed aside the two policemen with guns and quickly ran over. Seeing Diana was alright, he finally relaxed.
"Miss Diana, are you alright?"
"Do you wish something happened to me?" Diana seemed not too pleased with this man, teasingly said.
The middle-aged man was the chief, also known as Old Dong to Diana.
Old Dong gave a wry smile, almost calling her "madam," and said, "It's good that Miss Diana is fine. What are you standing around for? Hurry up and check the surroundings!"
