'The Armageddon'

I woke up to the deafening silence, even the 'normal' raging wind seemed to have seized, I mean, this all started on 'the Armageddon', a word I used to describe the days all these inhuman development started.

They were days bathed in tears and blood.

I felt like chuckling to myself, due to the accumulated 'mental overload' but my voice seemed to be stuck in my throat. Can't remember the last time I spoke... Or heard anyone's voice.

Since 'the Armageddon,' everywhere have seemed to be in a state of pin drop silence, except the wind, which seemed to have defiled the 'law of silence'. 'The Armageddon' lasted for three days and three night, and after that was silence, a global silence.

Though occasionally there were pained screams, which lasted no more than a minute. Before 'the Armageddon', I was someone who always fantasized on something like these, but now, I was dead scared, lonely and hopeless.

It felt like I was the last human on earth, though I knew I wasn't. I knew for the fact that there were people benefiting handsomely from this phenomenon, but I wasn't just the lucky one. I wasn't the protagonist of 'this story', neither was I a side character.

I felt like an outcast in 'this story'. I would have perished long time ago, but I was always determined to see the next sunrise, hehe, what a joke.

These were the times when people seek death, but we're scared to die, wishes to scream but wouldn't dare, these.... 'Are the dark times'.

*Exhales*

Enough of the emotional speech, time to move.

Crawling out from a 'disaster' built cave, which was once a storey building I think... not like I care. It's been 'six months' since 'the Armageddon', and I've been snooping around like a homeless rat in search of water, food and shelter.

I take back my word of being the 'unlucky one', because since 'the Armageddon' I've only come across 'twenty one' encounters with the 'unknown', which could be evaluated as a very lucky uhmm... Endeavour.

Out of the 'twenty one' encounters, I survived with multiple broken ribs, a sprained ankle, a broken arm and a 'near death experience'. I just became seventeen yesterday, 'a horrible time to celebrate your birthday', so you could imagine a teen in such a situation.

Surveying the area like a punk thief hiding from the feds, I tiptoed as fast and as silent as I could. And on looking to my left, I saw a store with the word 'Ammunation' on a label at the top of the building, it was a 'gun shop'.

It felt like 'love at first sight'.

I silently headed to the direction of the store, not dropping my guard for a second. In my left palm was a ten-inch double-edged custom handmade dagger in a reverse-grip and on my right palm was a twelve-inch double-edged HTK-56 Damascus knife in a firm grip.

I was careful not to step on the trash's strewn everywhere, to avoid making even the slightest sound. As I neared the building without any 'unknown' on sight, I felt like I was starting to be the protagonist of my 'trash life'.

And that was the moment I heard a groan, getting louder each second, I quickly dived into the industrial waste bin, which was by the side of the alley, regardless of how smelly it was, and closed the lid over my head.

I chose life over dignity.

Taking in a foul breath, I left it to accumulate in my lungs, to calm my heart which was at the brink of exploding. Then I listened carefully and was shocked when I recognized the source of the groan which now sounded close and loud, 'it was a car!!?'.

A f*ucking car!!?

I felt disbelief at first, but on a second thought. Anyone capable of using a car, regardless of the sound of its engines must be fearless of the 'unknown'.

Yeah... That makes sense.

And if I were to join such a crew... then my life would be so much better. And without a second thought, I jumped out from the smelly dumpster and hopped like a happy bunny towards the sound. You can't actually blame me for such an immature decision, because, this... Will be my first time... Seeing a human... Since 'the Armageddon'.

I had mixed feelings.

Sprinting out of the alley and into a dilapidated highway, I saw a fortified Toyota tundra 4x4, racing towards me from my left. I quickly waved my arms wildly to get it's attention, and luckily... or unluckily for me, I saw it slowing down till it came to an abrupt stop a couple of miles away from me.

And before I could take a step forward, I saw a head pop up from the sunroof of the truck, wearing a ski mask and armed with a rifle which was positioned in my direction. I quickly threw my weapons to the floor along with my bulging backpack.

Raising my hands to the air to show I meant no harm. Actually... how could a solo guy with two blunt knives do any harm to a crew armed with rifles, unless they had no bullets which, I didn't think was the case. And with that thought in mind...

*Bang*

Was the last thing I heard... before I blacked out.
